Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

Right, if you're buying both, it's fine. If you're only buying the 3DS version, being told "Well the Wii U owners had to pay $60 so you should be grateful" is probably not smart.

I'm just figuring that Nintendo is going to want to have people double dip and characters is the easiest way to do that.

I'm not saying that is the only way I want them to handle it though.regular DLC would be just fine with me.

It's also a huge kick in the nuts when a game you've waited for for years doesn't even have staple characters because of the limitations of an inferior version.

Especially when Nintendo rolls out a new version of said system that fixes those limitations.

While he was my most unwanted character, I hate to admit that Shulk seems fun to play as.
At least he has a better alt than his ugly ass clothes! (yes, any alt is better than his default.)

I wonder if we'll see Neiteio filling the next 100 pages with pics of Shulk's crocs :p

Agree on both accounts. So ugly, but looks really fun.

I don't know that we'll ever have confirmation on why Ice Climbers were cut. People are free to think it was because of 3DS limitations, but until Sakurai says that, it's a lot of just screaming at clouds.

It'd be nice to have an Iwata Asks that reveals all.

I can't even remember when we last had an Iwata Asks, though. (And I don't care enough to check, lol)

Got to wait for NEW Super Smash Bros 4 Super Turbo or Super Smash Bros 4 NEW 3DS.

I know people saying stuff like this is basically all jokes but lol if anyone thinks there's really going to be a Capcom style Smash Bros update at some point

Maybe a "base game + DLC" bundle but Sakurai is going to need to recover for 10 years or so before we see this nonsense again

Ice Climbers are the sole representative of a series in Smash, have been in the last two games and are relatively popular with the competitive community and less so with the casual community.

I think it's ridiculous that, if they are cut, it could be for any other reason than the 3DS' limitations, he wouldn't just cut an entire Nintendo franchise out of smash for shits and giggles.

Yep and its going to poison EVERY single Smash conversation on this site for potentially years :/

Miyamoto said they weren't really working as marketing things, so they stopped doing them.
If that's true, what really surprises me is they ever thought they were meaningful marketing tools in the first place. Only the most hardcore of the hardcore would read through pages and pages of over-articulated and hyper-polite banter between Japanese executives (with the occasional Western white boy thrown in for good measure). I mean, we here at GAF love that shit, but surely Nintendo is not so out of touch that they thought the general populace cared.

Wish they'd still do them, just for us. I think there's a long-term benefit in continuing to cement the love and admiration of the core, finite in number though they may be. Giving us that glimpse into how Nintendo works, their philosophy, etc., really deepened my appreciation for the people who work at Nintendo. :-)

For some reason I thought he had glowing chest hair...

Someone really called swimsuit Shulk?

Is the swimsuit Shulk already taken? :D
If not, may I? :)

Ryan of call was the first one I see,

Whoever called regular Shulk I have no clue.
Though intelliheath probably knows. Since i'm sure he was requested way back even when people weren't sure if he was in.

Except he straight up said this was the problem in an interview over a year ago.

m.ign.com/articles/2013/06/13/smash-bros-wii-u-3ds-might-not-release-at-the-same-time
That article is paraphrasing Sakurai, so it's possible he didn't actually cite the Ice Climbers as an issue, and that was mere extrapolation on the part of the writer. (Not advisable in the journalism world, mind you.) But yeah, I'm inclined to believe Sakurai did mention the Ice Climbers as something held back by the 3DS. In which case, I guess the writing was more or less on the wall.

No, quality before quantity. And in this case the 3DS limited the Wii U version quality.

But if the alternative is the 3DS not getting Smash at all, then it's a worthy trade-off. I'd say it's better to have a Smash with slightly less content than it could have had (still more content than the previous entry in its series) than a Smash exclusive to a system that not many people own.

Even if he didn't say Ice Climbers specifically, they are the only characters that incorporates more than one fighter on the field. It couldn't be anybody BUT Ice Climbers.

Highly disagree with this.

I would sacrifice the 3DS version and have that team help out on the WiiU version for more content in a heartbeat.

Probably not a good sale tactic, but I'm not interested in how well the game sells, I'm interested in how good it is.
