Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

Considered and rejected. Sakurai was pretty clear and gave his reasons.

Or maybe he got a bit of good information and decided to see how much mileage he could stretch out of that, and just made shit up.

I just don't think that sneaky spirit, out of THE ENTIRE NINTENDO LINEUP, is one of two unrepped series with enemies in smash run (the other being from a previous veteran) can be a coincidence.

If IC's were cut because of technical difficulties, it's quite possible the same thing just happened to the Chorus Kids if they were truly intended to be a 3 in 1 characters.

With this in mind, it's vaguely amusing that most of Snake's hitbox issues in Brawl are speculated to come from being too big in early development - when his model was scaled down, not all of his data was altered to match.

I never knew this.
Now I want to know how big he really was before being scaled down. Even as speculation it explains everything.

Just found how to play sound from YouTube videos while not having the app up. Sitting on the tram right now blasting Xenoblade music. Fucking awesome.

That makes absolutely no sense. If Ridley is a stage hazard, it has basically already been said without saying it. Leaving it ambiguous all this time, while building fan expectations, is a horrible way to treat fans and promote your game. I still 100% believe Ridley is in along with a Zelda newcomer. It might not happen until the Wii U version, though. I could see Sakurai saving some juice for the second release.
Remember how Sakurai left us hanging with Ganondorf in Brawl? He even made Ganondorf's Down Taunt to remind us of the unique moveset Ganondorf was denied.

More likely, he wanted to add a cool reference, but didn't want to change his moveset. Personally, I do NOT want a sword-based Ganondorf. That isn't a tease to me. Too many goddamn swords in this game already.

I'd rather have the Trident of power. Otherwise we already have half the cast fisting and half the cast slashing. I want to feel powerful as Ganondorf. But the fact is outside of 2-3 situational and powerful moves, he is pretty weak for the wielder of the Triforce of Power.

That's why we need toon dorf as a newcomer. There aren't any dual swordwielders yet.

I still think people are jumping the gun on burying the veterans. Especially after reading that thread about Nintendo cutting content from Fantasy Life to push as day 1 DLC, I'm even more convinced they would do the same in order to motivate people to get both versions.

Smash on 3DS in Japan is going to be HUGE.

They love their handhelds and their Smash games.

Question, do you guys feel that there are too many sword users in Smash 4?
17% of the full roster are sword users. 13% if you exclude the clones.

I'll let you decide whether that's "too many".

It's not as if Ganondorf can only wield a single weapon - he's reasonably versatile in most of his appearances. There's the trident as Ganon / Phantom Ganon, dual swords in Wind Waker and Hyrule Warriors, Sage's Sword in Twilight Princess, tennis balls and scattershot projectiles in Ocarina of Time and the lightning magic he used as Agahnim. Wanting a new moveset isn't necessarily equivalent to demanding Ganondorf use nothing but a sword - it's more a desire for something that reflects his abilities and character in the series, or at least a single game in it.

I'd rather we get classic Ganon as a new heavyweight newcomer, while keeping Ganondorf the same. That way we'll get a character specifically from 2D Zeldas as well.
Who is interested in amiibos here? kind of excited to collect them all xD
Just going to get this guy here

Although if I feel like getting one from the first set, then I'll probably get DK's as well. If I end up doing that I'll have the Amiibos of my two favorite characters.

Exactly. One of the main things that pisses me off is how much care goes into Megaman and Pacman among others yet with Ganondorf he gets no respect. A quick one and done. So they gave him Flame Choke and maybe a few slight alterations on his standards but was effectively nerfed from Melee.

I can make him work like I did in Brawl but as being a homage to various Nintendo franchises it's a huge insult to the character.

I've never seen so many people get so upset over losing a Ness clone.

*runs*

I want my standard moves to actually do something, unlike majority of Ness'...damn yo-yo is awful.

Speaking of Smash Run, have we seen any enemies from Xenoblade? Fire Emblem hasn't had anything either repped. Haven't seen the ghosts from Pacman to my knowledge, or anything from Punch Out. Or Star Fox. There's not enemies in Animal Crossing, Wii Fit or F-Zero, so that makes sense.

To my knowledge it seems that are a lot of unrepped series in Smash Run too with playable characters.

That's what Lloyd Irving is for!

So, unrevealed alts aside ... this should be the starting roster right?

I'm doubling down on Rhythm Heaven being:

A) the pink stage on the 3DS stage select
B) an unrepped series with stages and potentially items and assist trophies like Animal Crossing in Brawl
C) disappointing to fans

It makes sense that they were holding off on showing Xenoblade enemies before Shulk, so we'll likely see some in the next week. Though there's no reason why the other series you listed wouldn't be represented through enemies or bosses, we haven't yet seen them.

I can't stop watching the Shulk trailer. It's so awesome to see how perfect it came together. It's exactly what most of us supporters wanted. Shulk playable, monado mode swaps, vision counters, chain attack final smash, Riki AT, Gaur Plains stage, and the glorious music!!

Agreed but only if he shouts out the names of all his specials so he can be as annoying as possible. Gotta keep it authentic.

They should go the Shulk route and have him use all his friends' dumb catchphrases too. PANCAKE TIME. DWARVEN VOW NUMBER SEVEN...

I like him without weapons. I actually like his Brawl moveset, frame data aside. Like I said, though, we might get the projectile ball in a custom moveset.

I pulled up the official roster teaser (sans Lucina) on the JP eShop, and I had no trouble viewing the character portraits on my 3DSLL.

Snake and Sonic were hidden in Brawl, so I suspect that the third-party characters will be hidden this time around as well. Hard to say, though.

Surprised at the demand for Marth.

I'm happy to see Samus fairly high, though that's unsurprising given her design translates to the amiibo format easier than most. Hopefully, an executive drastically misinterprets the sales data and greenlights a Metroid Prime Pinball NFC game.

Then why would the new 3ds model have a 2nd analog that soley functions as a c-stick in smash

Yeah, they just didn't bother announcing it because the CPP was a flop and has a puny userbase.

The final product will likely support it (because Sakurai supports every control method under the sun) but if =new= 3DS was in the pipeline for a while the last thing they'd want to do is be accused of selling people a bunch of useless plastic accessories that don't work with the new model they're trying to promote alongside the game.

I'm just saying we don't know for sure, so don't act like it's certain that Chrom wasn't in development at any point or anything.

And no, the opposite isn't certain, either. I was just proposing a possibility.

To be honest, its common sense that he didn't take him into development, what kind of developer takes a character into development on a timed schedule and then goes "whoops, I changed my mind, I'd rather have this character!"? It's not like he rran into a bug and was cut like Ice Climbers, he actually figured he was a bad character during a phase where he was conceptualizing them.

Seems odd to not show these other series though, but show Rhythm Heaven and Ice Climber enemies.

It does make me wonder if Smash Run will have representation from series with non-playable characters is all, instead of IC and RH getting reps.

Consider what was in Brawl for the cut characters. Roy and Doc were stickers, Mewtwo and Pichu were trophies. It's not completely unbelievable to see something from cut characters.
I want IC back too, btw- I think my pessimism is sinking in though.

Soooooo... I'm in a bit of a pickle, guys. I really want to keep sharing in the pre-release Smash hype with you all, but I fear everything I say from here on out will come with the huge caveat of me having attended today's media event, making you all suspicious of what I know or don't know.

You guys already know that I can't and won't share anything I might have seen or played from today's event, so there's that. So I guess all I can do is just see how things go for the next day or so, but if I feel like the context of everything I say is being threatened by my having gone to this event or like there's any conflict of interest at all, I'll probably just have to become a ghost until the game launches in Japan. I don't want to do that at all, though, so if ya'll can do me a favor and not ask me about the media event and/or cast everything I say under a light of suspicion, I'd really appreciate it. Rest assured that there are still many things I don't know; I'm very much still just a fan waiitng hungrily for more information, like the rest of you. I don't suddenly "know everything." Either way, all questions directed to me about the media event or just going to go ignored, no matter how vague or "safe" they might be.

Yeah, it suck. I might be mistaken but I also heard that the NDA is actually covered the leaks as well to stopped presses from talking about leaks.

no ice climbers
no snake
no jigglypuff

most unique moveset cuts of any smash ever

;_; god is dead

Jigglypuff is in the game.

While we're on the subject of the Samus Amiibo... what's with her boring pose? She looks like this

Why not something... cool? Like this maybe?

Where is this info that confirms this.
I don't see anything still that mentions this.

They said in the New 3DS trailer that the new "stick" would function much like the C-Stick did on the GCN controller and would allow players to perform Smash attacks. The same trailer also explains that the new built-in "stick" was designed as a way to incorporate the CPP while reducing the distance between stick and buttons. It seems to me the trailer is implying that the game is CPP-compatible.
