Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

Yeah, it baffles me how there is so little DK love is Smash.

I'm also shocked that there is no Zelda newcomer in this game.

I guess Sheik becoming her own character might be good enough in Sakurai's eyes...

But Zelda is getting treated pretty good. Only it, Mario, and Pokemon got more than one new stage in Smash 3DS, and its got lots of new items and ATs.

Oh yeah, the Zelda series in general is being treated really good in this game, but I'm just kinda surprised that we've gone two Smash games without a true Zelda newcomer.

E3 2013 (Villager/Mega Man/WFT)- I tend to lump this all into one mega Smash 4 reveal trailer as that's how I saw it. I don't really have a personal attachment to either of these newcomers but it was the first time I laid eyes on the new HD Smash. The new theme was perfect pump-up music as was that Mega Man remix. Just awesome.

Robin/Lucina/Falcon- Aside from perhaps the reveal, the only trailer I audibly got giddy over. I have never played Awakening--I'm getting around to it--but at the time Gematsu was scripture. I was so excited because I feared Gematsu was the limit to the newcomers. Add Captain Falcon doing his thing and the fact it was just an entertaining trailer and it was awesome. It made Smash speculation fun again
for three weeks.

Little Mac- The art direction of this trailer was extraordinary. I loved the bit between Samus and Mac and Doc Louis's commentary was very entertaining. The music was great too.

Greninja/Charizard- The death of the Pokemon Trainer. Charizard v. Mario was an entertaining matchup and I will admit I thought Greninja was Mewtwo for the most fleeting of moments. Greninja was my Gen VI starter and by far my favorite new pokemon of that generation. Like many others have said, he was the newcomer I never knew I wanted.

Shulk- Another very fun and entertaining trailer. The Marth/Link teamup was so sweet as was the duel between them and Shulk. Another trailer with fantastic music. I'm noticing a pattern. He also looks fun to play which is a relief to me. I don't know why but he just looked bad in the leaked video.

Mii Fighters- I'm probably not going to mess with the Mii characters much, so they don't do anything for me. This trailer is up here purely based on that Reggie-Iwata smack down. Hilarious stuff.

Pac-Man- Sakurai works his magic again. I was not looking forward to Pac-Man at all until this trailer. He looks pretty interesting and is a great retro callback. Why so low then? Every other trailer had a really cool CGI/Live-Action/Anime-Style portion with a splash that got you extremely hyped for the reveal. This trailer didn't.

Palutena- All this trailer did was make me sad there isn't a Smash anime.

Rosalina- The only newcomer so far I don't really like. The execution is pretty good on the fighter but I'm still meh overall on Rosalina as a character. Just can't get excited for her.

Sonic- SOOOONIIIICCC HEEEROOOOEEESSSS

Has this Reyn video been posted yet? Yes? No?

Doesn't matter, i'm gonna post it anyway!
This is great. Are all of those clips from Xenoblade?

Plot twist: Duck Hunt Dog is actually a NES Remix style character and Ice Climbers are part of his moveset.
I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to Duck Hunt being an NES Remix-style character.

Not sure how I'd feel about Ice Climber being part of his moves, though. :-\

I would like to see that fight. Would spectate and wager virtual Smash Gold.

I don't see Robin
or Lucina *cries*
staying for the next Smash unless IS makes Awakening 2 a direct sequel and that alone would be pretty surprising to me.
Ike made it into Smash 4. I really don't see either Lucina or Robin getting cut for Smash 5. At worst Robin will be replaced by another customizable Tactician.

Next Smash will have 6 FE reps. You heard it here first.

lol this has to become a real thing in Smash.

Yup, agreed.

Honestly, I'm surprised Ike and Lucario made it in this Smash. But well, Ike had a sequel to his original game, and it's pretty obvious that we will be getting one or two new FE games in the next years, so Sakurai would look up on some characters to take up from those, and I doubt FE is gonna get that many reps. Maybe it could Marth, Ike and Robin + new FE characters, but I'm kinda expecting Robin to be taken out if Awakening doesn't have any sequel.
I will no longer doubt Ike lol. I'm sure he has a locked in slot for future Smash games along with Marth.

What if in the next FE game we get another (new) tactician sword/magic user again?
Or a transforming one for that matter.
There are lots of ways IS can make the player character unique in their original game and interesting enough for Sakurai to put in the next Smash.
That's why I think Robin isn't coming back unless theres an Awakening sequel.

They'll turn Lucina back into a Marth alt and bring in a newcomer from the new game. We'll end up with the same number of FE reps.

Have there been any new info as of late? New leaks?

Some people think the starter roster has been revealed.

smash-bros-3ds-starting-roster-656x789.png

I doubt it, as I don't think Luigi and Captain Falcon will be available from the start.

What? Why?

Lol what?

People are going to stop playing Smash after Sm4sh comes out?
Why would Sm4sh be your last?

Heath why is this your last smash game?

This is your last Smash game? What, are you expecting to be dead by the time the next one comes out?

I'm guessing this is really about mounting responsibilities in life -> less time for video games

Bingo, Great Gonzales got it right. Well, I DID said same thing when Brawl came out. I thought I would be busy with everything, however time did me a favor this time. But I seriously doubt that it would happens again for me next time.

We still have 5-6 years of Smash 4 so let enjoy the game. :)

Might as well make it a Fire Emblem fighter game

Thinking that Lucina could turn into an alt (even though it will technically mean she is still in the game) makes me kind of sad.

For a second I was worried that you meant the first thing GG mentioned. @.@

I can't see myself ever not trying out the new Smash Bros. Even if I end up having a family with multiple kids while working two jobs and going to grad school, I'd still pick it up and try to squeeze in some time with it if I'm ever free and awake.

Even now I have less time for games than I used to, but that just means certain ones become a priority when I get have the time.

If you don't mind me asking, what would you be doing that would consume ALL of your time/money that you'd have no time/money to buy/play something you very clearly love?

Captain Falcon and Luigi both show up in ads for the game and Captain Falcon is on the digital "boxart." They're starting characters.

If I were a betting man I'd bet the E-shop picture is the starting roster or that all the characters on it are starting characters with the possible addition of another character reveal or two (which isn't guaranteed at this point before the release).

Sakurai is the biggest FE nerd ever

screw cuts, we're gonna have like two more FE newcomers come next smash game, mark my words

But Luigi has always been unlockable and is a starter now, so the tradition can't be that strict.

Actually, this will mean Jiggly is the only unlockable from Smash 64 to remain unlockable in all 4 games.

I think I saw the roster being smaller, and it was not the E3 demo, so I don't think that image in the previous page is the starters. I believe Cap. Falcon is still unlockable

Thinking that Lucina could turn into an alt (even though it will technically mean she is still in the game) makes me kind of sad.

Why? She plays the same moveset as Marth, and we already have 2 characters with changin sounds and gender in alts (WFT and Robin) and they are equally good.

And if the next FE game continues to follow the exploits of Chrom, Robin, Lucina, & the other Shepherds (which is likely considering how big of a hit Awakening was)?

Here is a question that'll divide this board worse than Team real/Team Fake or any discussion on Ridley/Takamaru/K Rool ever could.

Rank the character reveal videos.
Robin and Lucina
Palutena
Mega Man
Greninja
Shulk
Little Mac
Wii Fit Trainer
Rosalina & Luma
Mii Fighters
Villager
Pac-Man

Yeah, the same might be true for me. Smash 4 is coming out at the perfect time for me - I happen to have an abnormal amount of free time right now, so I can put a lot of time into following the PotD and posting here. But that won't last, and while I expect I'll still buy the next Smash, I doubt I'll have the time to ride the hype train like I am now.

And perhaps I won't even have the interest. Already, I can tell I'm less interested in video games than I used to be: Smash is the first game I've been excited enough to preorder in years (since Brawl, I think.) The only thing that came close for me was Animal Crossing: New Leaf, but even then I waited several months after release to pick it up. So six years down the line, I can see myself thinking, "oh, a new Smash is coming out. Cool," and then more or less ignoring it until it comes out.

This is how i'd rate the trailers.

Robin and Lucina
Shulk
Palutena
Little Mac
Wii Fit Trainer
Rosalina & Luma
Villager
Greninja
Mega Man
Pac-Man

Megaman is close to the bottom since they didn't handle the reveal well in my eyes.
As for Pac-Man. It was just boring all around and I don't even mind the character.

I just saw on /v/ the PAX embargo ends Tuesday?

That's not right, is it? I thought it was the JP release.

It's funny...I thought I was beginning to lose interest in the series because so few games interest me nowadays. Very few get me hyped, and I base many purchases most on critical reception than on me actually being salivating at the thought of trying said games.

Hence Conker's Bad Fur Day, Xenoblade Chronicles, so many cult RPGs for the DS....I end up having a great time with most of said games, but it's not like when I was a kid and I was counting the days for X or Y game to come out. Helps that when I was a kid I'd get two games per year, one Christmas, one in my birthday.

With all of this said...the second Nintendo announced Smash for both 3DS and Wii U, I knew I'd end up getting both consoles down the line. Smash is my favorite franchise in all of gaming; I'm in love not only with its chaotic gameplay, with its nature as a perfect multiplayer game, with the guaranteed laughs it'll bring each and every time...But also with it being a chance to celebrate everything in this company that's brought me so many good times. A lot of different series enter the fray, along with items, secundary characters, their music, their stages, their trophies, and the game ends up being better than the sum of its parts. It's a lovingly wrapped gift of unaltered fun that comes once per generation.

I, for one, think that even if I lose interest in every other game out there, will always get excited at the notion of the next Smash Brothers.

EDIT: There's something warm about writing all of this, then spending my Streetpass coins for puzzle pieces, and having every single one of them be a new one :)

Marth has been my secondary in every game since Melee.

I just passed the chapter where you recruit Lucina in Awakening and I already love her character; new secondary found. I feel bad that she's gonna suck in comparison to him, though.

I suspect people will actually do better with Lucina, on the whole, since they don't have to worry about tip-fighting and can instead do a reasonable amount of damage no matter where they strike.
