Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

Once you get over the learning curve with the controls, it's fairly easy to beat. Just demands a lot of concentration. I started on 3.0 intensity at the beginning and pretty soon I cranked myself up to 7.0 for all the missions. Still can't really handle 9.0 intensity, but eh. Anyways, if you're having trouble, the game'll knock down the intensity/difficulty every time you die or you can just set it low yourself before the stage begins.

I'm fairly certain the NES game didn't have an intensity slider.

Its learning curve is actually very weird. The game arguably becomes easier later in the game, and it's probably due to the fact that a lot of people have troubles with learning the damage output of enemies while also dealing with a rising death-pit.

This actually makes me feel more determined to get back to it. Thanks! :)

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. I was referring to the original Kid Icarus. But your info will not go to waste! I do plan to obtain the new Kid Icarus at some point. :P Thanks though!

So is it the general consensus that Kid Icarus is a pretty tough game? I'd like to believe that I can at least be mediocre at every genre...I don't want to accept that
I suck D:

I didn't have too much trouble with the 3D Classics version. I hear that it fixed some odd jumping physics that the NES game had.

I don't watch anime.

...
okay then :(

:P

Looking at the stage selection so far I'm liking that we don't really have any gimmick stages (outside of maybe Pac Land which we haven't seen a whole lot of).

Palutena's Temple looks good for a giant stage, looks closer to Temple (GOAT Smash stage) in that it has larger areas you can actually fight on rather than the mess that was New Pork City.

Hopefully the unlockable stages aren't crap like how Brawl threw 75m, Mario Bros and Hanenbow at us lol.

Melee is better at everything because reasons.

I fucking love Melee but yo damn does this sentiment of it doing no wrong begins to grind my gears something fierce

Roy is just...what characterization? I mean to say that he is the definition of bland and is thus constantly rated to be one of the worst lords, if not the worst lord in all of FE. Also in the game he's almost completely useless as a fighter and he's a liability.

That's pretty much all there is to it...he's pretty much got nothing except a cool family.

I liked Roy personally, and don't get people saying he was bad in-game. My Roy wrecked the shit out of people when I played through FE6.

Melee's soundtrack is great and all, but Brawl's blew it out of the water. For as much hate as Brawl gets, if there's one thing it did right, it's the music.

It was a shame that the larger size of Brawl's soundtrack didn't allow anywhere near as much of it to be orchestrated when compared to Melee. I don't see that changing for 4, but at least we can expect the samples used to be of generally higher quality.

Why Great Tiger? King Hippo or someone would be better imo.

Other than that replace Ridley with Paper Mario and it's perfect.
I'm with you on King Hippo but the only replacement I would do is swap Isabelle for Simon Belmont. I can't imagine her playing too differently from Villager and it's about time someone did something with Castlevania. Konami sure as hell isn't. I feel like he would be much more versatile and would gladly pay triple the asking price for his inclusion.

Comparing Melee's and Brawl's soundtracks are about even to me. Brawl had some really good original tracks that I need to hear while playing, mixed in with alot of okay or reused tracks (some of which were also good). While Melee crafted great tracks all around, mostly orchestrated which is a genre I can't get enough of.

Secondary Punch-Out rep should either be Glass Joe for a humorous joke character or Bald Bull or Sandman for a more serious character as they've appeared in four out of the five Punch-Out titles, including the first. Super Macho Man has also appeared in four but his first appearance was in the second title, Super Punch-Out in the arcades.

I wonder if they'll ever make a new Punch-Out and if they did would they give it the Super prefix to continue the pattern.

If we're talking secondary Punch-Out! characters, it's Mike Tyson or nothing. I love Punch-Out! but I don't really think anyone else is important or legendary enough. Maybe King Hippo as a boss

My rationale with respect to Great Tiger versus King Hippo is that King Hippo would conceptually have a lot of similarities with Little Mac - strong on ground, poor in the air. Great Tiger meanwhile would have an awesome air game, could teleport, create after-images of himself, have elemental punches, hover in the air, etc. If we're looking for the Punch-Out!! character that would be the most interesting, Great Tiger is the only correct answer, and nothing else comes even remotely close.

King Hippo as a really big, slow, hard-hitting Mac clone would be a lot of fun. Little Mac is quick on his feet and can traverse the arena quickly to take advantage of openings in his opponents, but King Hippo with the same moveset would be slow, lumbering, and need his opponents to come to him.

It would invert the playstyle entirely, even if he played similarly. I think he'd be a worthwhile addition to the roster in a future game or as DLC.

Plus he looks amazing in his rematch outfit.

If we're talking about complete inversion, Great Tiger does it way better. King Hippo, all he brings to the table is a heavyweight-style boxer with slower attacks. Great Tiger would be a tall character - which I'd call rarer than a heavy character - and he would run contrary to Little Mac's typically normal moveset by having a completely out-there moveset. Sakurai values unique fighters a lot, and I think if he was going to include anyone, it would either be a Little Mac clone or someone like Great Tiger who covers the more absurd elements of the Punch-Out!! series.

I gonna lol if the game comes out and Ash tells us that they showed the Pax guys nothing more than what the leak already told us.

Even if they did that, they probably gave some in-depth details on the characters we know nothing about right now. I'm sure there's a lot to learn that they showed there even if we knew the characters were in already.

Some people still complain that Miis are Smash originals are than reference characters.

Well one compromise could be to give Mii Swordfighters and Mii Brawlers Wii Sports based costumes:

Don't ask about Mii Gunners.

I like this idea.

Anything that would get more Punch-Out content into Smash is A-OK in my book. It's one of Nintendo's more overlooked franchises, I feel.

Still can't wait to play Smash with Punch-Out music.

Considering the amount of costume + weapon combinations they've made already, it'd really be missing an obvious opportunity to forgo those. Hopefully, there are Wiimote + Nunchuk, Zapper and Power Glove weapons available for the Mii movesets as well. Though I'm not sure what costumes would match them...

Sorry, the Zapper is reserved for
Duck Hunt Dog
;)

It may have been officially liscenced, but it's not a Nintendo product. Surprised people still think it is.

The problem with Great Tiger is it'd be like if they skipped over Rosalina and Bowser Jr and chucked in Petey Piranha for the sake of being 'unique'.
