Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

Just realized:

First series of SSB Amiibo has 12 figures.

If you don't count Mii Fighters, there are 48 characters on the roster.

Thus, there could be four series of 12 figures each.

Question is... who will be in which one?

More Xenoblade questions:

- Is the rabbit-like creature, Riki, part of a larger race of creatures? I know X is a spiritual successor, but I recall a similar rabbit-like creature in one of its trailers. Perhaps that race will be like Chocobo in Final Fantasy, appearing across multiple titles?

- Is Dunban missing an arm, or is he unable to use it? I can't tell if he's sheltering it under his jacket.

whatever, I've seen worse threads crop up from arguing over dev statements. Only difference is the big N making things blasphemous

Smashfans breed strange people though. And it's not even Nintendo, just Smash. It is a mistake to assume that people are getting up in arms because "people are criticizing Nintendo", since it's pretty much easy to do so without getting flanked.

Pokemon? Pah, you can swat them easily with labels like genwunners. Mario? Muh capes, etc. Smash however has a weird fandom that drives insane people. That thread already has the worst ideas - PM is perfect, Sakurai didn't make KIU, and it's okay to change characters rather than to improve them because "that's how I played them in Melee".

Oh and "muh Wario Land"

And I'm still bothered that no one respects the true best Smash game in terms of physics - 64.

Alt costumes will probably get figures too. Bowser Jr alone could get an entire series to himself. Then there's Assist Trophies, Pokemon, Bosses, Master Hand, etc.

I don't think every series will be 12, nor that there will only be 48.

for people who play project m on dolphin, is there a way to combine the iso and the project m files as one? would be a lot more convenient imo if I could do this. (if this is against the rules I'll delete edit this out to something else @_@)

man I've had enough discussing that thread, let's look at these adorable pictures of a Mr. Saturn and what I believe is a hedgehog.

He has his arm, but this question directly ties to a pretty big plot point. SPOILERS:
He was originally thought to be the only one who could wield the Monado. In his attempts to use it, his right arm is more or less completely paralyzed from the overbearing power.

Is this a Sonic/Mother crossover being hinted at?

Are there going to be cutscenes? As dumb as they were in Brawl, they were fun
I recall Sakurai saying that all of the character reveal trailers will be on disk. I'm a bit skeptical this would include the Mii Fighters trailer, due to the fact the Mii Fighters trailer involved executives who may or may not be with the company in the future. Thus, I anticipate they'll include all of the other character trailers:

- Villager
- Mega Man
- Wii Fit Trainer
- Rosalina & Luma
- Little Mac
- Greninja
- Palutena
- Pac-Man
- Lucina / Robin
- Shulk
- Bowser Jr.
- Duck Hunt

That'd be 12 trailers, without Mii Fighters. Not sure if Dark Pit will get his own trailer. On the one hand, he hasn't had a title card yet. On the other hand, he did make an appearance in Palutena's trailer, albeit a teaser. Still might be enough for Sakurai to say he's been covered.

Dunban can't use his other arm since the Monado damaged it.

About Riki, he is from the Nopon race and that Xenoblade Chronicle X question is kinda an huge spoiler.

There was a Nopon (Riki's species)
in the X trailer named Tatsu
I think. I've always thought it was the mascot now too like you said.

Since nothing appears to have been leaked from the press yet (aside from that one set of random roster cut / DLC comments), I have some thoughts about it. This is NOT directed at Ash since I know they can't comment. I just wanted to theorize.

The question is, WHY would Nintendo have a private, NDA'd, press event? The purpose of any normal press event is presumably so that the press will then relay the information they have received. Making a NDA'd press event prevents this very thing, so there must be some alternative explanation. Possible explanations that occur to me:

  1. Maybe Nintendo wants the North American press to feel happy that they were invited to a special private preview, so that they subconsciously start writing more positive articles about Nintendo. This seems like a stretch to me, unless combined with other explanations.
  2. Maybe Nintendo wants the North American press to write magazine and internet articles about the preview build / information / whatever they saw, but not reveal them until after the Japanese launch. This seems weird to me. For one thing, if everyone did not write their articles immediately, they might have forgotten important details by the time an embargo expired a couple of weeks later. For another thing, why have a press article barrage in North America at the same time as the Japanese release? Yes fans might be happy for the information, but they get the information anyway when the Japanese game releases and people start posting details. If information is of the "these characters did not make it" nature, that might just make fans unhappy. If it is of the "hinty DLC nature", why not wait until nearer the North American release, when there's a better idea of whether Ice Climbers DLC is possible, and then hint or announce DLC?
  3. Even if the press event had amazing, exciitng information about Smash 4, no one can DO anything about it without importing in North America. Why not wait until nearer the North American release, and then time a press event to coincide with pushing release date sales? Maybe one possible reason could be that PAX was seen as the best time to have a bunch of different press members available, and there would not be an easy way to have a NDA press event closer to the North American release.
  4. Maybe there is a surprise early announcement Nintendo plans to do before the Japanese release, and that could be part of the reason that journalists cannot even say when the embargo expires. The Japanese release would be an obvious explanation and I do not see how it would hurt Nintendo to let people mention an embargo date.
  5. Maybe the embargo is all the way to the North American release, and Nintendo just wanted the press to write articles early. This seems like a bit of a stretch, since the press could just do reviews at that point, but who knows.

Google Project M netplay guide and look at the reddit link, there should be a program there that will patch a Brawl .iso with PM

Man, I hope you're right about Bowser Jr. I'd love to have figures of him and all seven Koopalings. :-)

Speaking of which, I'm really eager for them to confirm that already. I know we saw a trophy of Larry in what appears to be a blue version of the Clown Car, which would seem to reinforce the rumor that has been consistently correct so far. Still, I want Sakurai to confirm all seven Koopalings are present and accounted for here.

Aw. :-(
Does he get back the use of his arm at some point?

Apart from the trailers themselves, I believe Sakurai said there won't be any cutscenes like in Brawl; I believe he was disappointed they were all uploaded online prior to the game's release.

You're god damn right about that. Some of the best stages too. I'd love it if someone were to make a Smash that feels closer to it.

Threads like that makes me dislike the Competitive community a lot. It's not fair but damn do the assholes make it easier lol.

Like I said before, If I wasn't on GAF I would even know that Brawk was supposed to be hated. I love every Smash Game equally (or atleast for what they are)...I just wish others could do the same.

This kind of makes me sad. But hey, whatever, save that cart space so that there isn't any of that crap compressed audio I get in other games and they can fit other features in.

It's only a small minority who seemingly actively hate Sakurai/Brawl. Most Smash fans, including people who play competitive scene are really cool and fun to talk to. They aren't bitter or hateful. They love Smash and want other people to enjoy Smash along with them.

Maybe you'll be lucky and they brought back some N64 stages for the Wii U version with clean HD graphics as a well kept final secret.

Are the trailers going to be included on the 3DS cart at all? They're linked directly on the SSB eshop page, so it seems like a waste of space to include them in the game itself.

Funny thing is that nowadays people would consider some of the stages in 64 as "boring" because most of the time they're just "platform floating on midair". Some of the 64 stage design philosophy can still be seen in stuff like the AC stages.

Yeah, if it weren't for online communities, I wouldn't know people had an issue with Brawl, either. Sure, it's a notch slower, but the game was designed around that speed and still worked fine, IMO. And I personally never noticed the phenomenon of tripping. I mean, I can remember it happening, but it always seemed like a split-second occurrence.

My only criticisms of Brawl are the muted color scheme (something more evident in hindsight), the fact it wasn't HD, the fact there wasn't a good GCN controller replacement on Wii if your actual GCN controllers were rough around the edges, and the rather tedious and joyless Subspace Emissary.

But the core gameplay was excellent, there was a ton of content and the roster of characters was a huge improvement, so all in all it was a net gain. Too bad a good portion of the online Smash community thinks otherwise. Hopefully people will find more common ground in SSB4.

Deckard Cain is the resident FGC troll, best to just ignore him like they do there

I'd be perfectly fine with paying for something like this as DLC. But then again, I'd probably pay for a direct Fourside, Brinstar Depths and Fountain of Dreams port, so I don't exactly have very high standards.
