Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

From what we've seen of Xenoblade X's face models, why do you think they'd look better? SD wasn't a limitation, it was a shield - protecting us from the true horror of liquid Monolith eyes.

You mean, a bigger horror than THESE eyes?

EDIT: Oh, people still noticed <3

So is there any reason for me to drop my team of Reyn, Shulk, and Sharla for Dunban?
He doesn't look like he's be a good tank like Reyn.

I've heard people say Dunban can actually be a better tank than reyn. He's an evasion tank, so he tanks by avoiding attacks. ANd sharla is actually not that necessary

If you really want to tank go with both. Alternate Shulk and Sharla if you want (I don't).

Their multi-hit attacks build the Affinity Meter during Chain Combos. Combos galore!!

Aside from having one of the most fun movesets in the game and infinitely superior visual design and voice acting to every other character in your party, his high agility and agility-boosting skills will eventually enable him to serve the function of a tank while barely being hit.

A few more Xenoblade notes.

- You almost never need to buy equipment, ever. Gear drops so frequently that you don't really need shops unless you really feel like you need some supplemental gear.
- Horde items, don't sell them unless you have to. Because of the above point, it's not really vital to amass a lot of money most of the time, so selling items should purely be for the purpose of opening up inventory space. The vast majority of items are used for quests somewhere in the world.
- While NPCs have their own set schedules, remember that YOU CAN CHANGE THE TIME OF DAY AT ANY TIME. So if you need to talk to someone who is only out after midnight, just pull up the clock and switch it to midnight.
- You always need a tank of some sort to draw aggro (though it does not have to be Reyn), but you do NOT always need a dedicated healer in most cases.
- The AI is great at playing every character except Melia. If you want her in the party, learn to play her yourself.
- Break -> Topple -> Daze

I used Dunban more than Reyn in my playthrough. Toss a bunch of Agility Up gems on Dunban and enemies can't even hit him. As well, Sharla isn't that great of a character to use at least not out on the field. She can be an asset in tough boss battles or battles with unique enemies, but sticking with Dunban, Reyn and Shulk is probably best for now.

At first I was also afraid to switch my good old party, but then I see it was a good decision.

I see.
Guess i'll give him a try then. Wanted to make sure if it was even worth the attempt.

The hunter would be the main playable entity, but the dog and duck would also have their own attacks/assists, and they'd be focal to the core of the character. Even though you technically only control Rosalina, the character is called "Rosalina & Luma" because the Luma is central to her play style. The same applies to "Pikmin & Olimar." Duck Hunt is the same idea, only "Dog & Duck & Hunter" is too longwinded.
Dog & Duck & Hunter may be long winded, but it actually makes sense. Sure it could be condensed, but "Duck Hunt" is not the solution. Duck Hunt instead of Dog & Duck & Hunter is not comparable to Mario Bros. instead of Mario & Luigi, Ice Climbers instead Popo & Nana, or Wonderful Ones instead of Wonder Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Pink, Black and White. "Bros." "Climbers" and "Ones" each represent a collection of multiple Physical entities, while "Hunt" does not.

Also, in the Western versions of Brawl and the Smash 4 demo, Olimar only goes by Olimar.

AI kind of sucks as Sharla though

Here's a reason: Sharla sucks unless you use her yourself
And she still sucks there

Light heal is all you need with a brute force team at that point

I rarely used shops for anything other than art books. It's almost ludicrous how much stuff can be obtained just by battling.

I didn't even sell much. I just saved everything for either quests or trading.

Lucas didn't deserve this, he already suffered enough in his game :(
Yeah, but from the things I've heard from Star Wars fans regarding what he's done to the SW films, he's made quite a lot of people suffer as well. So basically he had it coming,

Even more reasons to switch it up.
Thanks guys.

Man this thread gained like 30 pages last night so I thought we had something interesting happen.

Oh well... I need to play Xenoblade but finding it here in Chile is impossible.

Dedicated healers aren't needed in Xenoblade, Sharla is the worst party member and I'd argue Reyn is the second worse. Dunban is a superior tank both offensively and defensively. Yeah he's a dodge tank but with his buffs it doesn't matter

Ai isn't that great with Shulk either, they do all the right arts but don't bother getting into position half the time and don't get the various benefits from positioning correctly, but he's still better then Melia who's ai is broken

drop Sharla and put Dunban in, deal more damage, need less healing

Sharla is only able to solve a problem (healing) of her own creation (lack of damage leading to longer battles)

I disagree actually, Shulk's AI is damn good at buffing with the proper powers. I think the second worst AI is probably Riki. Can't combo his moves properly.

I never really used Sharla once you could sub her out. :D

I didn't really make a point of using her aside from one or two boss battles, (the second part of the final battle and a certain endgame boss in particular) but I liked the character enough to keep her in the party every so often to grind affinity levels. Though every party member aside from Shulk and
KOS-MOS
was likeable enough.

I'm still impressed with myself that o managed to finish xenoblade on dolphin even with the audio stuttering and random crashes

Worth it

To be completely honest, I prefer "The Last Story" to "Xenoblade Chronicles", but I do love both games...will probably pick it up again on New3DS

You guys convinced me. Ran out to Gamestop, got it "pre-owned," but it's practically brand-new, and less than $50. Pulled from the pocket dimension inside that one drawer to the right of the cashier that seems to somehow contain copies of every game ever.

Nice! One of my all time favourites. It is TITS, enjoy.

Wonder if we'll get a Last Story track.

I too really enjoyed it. Suffers a bit from slowdown but not enough to detract from the experience.

Really wish I'd bothered to play a bit online before the servers died. Since I played it on my Wii U I can't even use homebrew to use codes for the multiplayer only items and one can't move save files to an SD card. (I don't really want to install homebrew on the Wii U if I can avoid it, I'll keep my Wii for that)

That's how i'm playing it right now with my copy.
So glad the newest build fixed a lot of that issues.
Only one that has gotten me is if I let the game just sit it will say the controller turned off.
But then I can't turn it back on. So if I forgot to save i'm screwed. Thankfully only happened to me once and was only a loss of 15 minutes.

I know, but the nature of the Duck Hunt character (the way I'm imagining it, anyway) doesn't really lend itself to a name of any kind. There's no way to succinctly entitle a character comprised of three disparate entities, so they might as well just go with a name that everyone will recognize, regardless of whether or not it makes sense mechanically.

Dunban dodges every attack so doesn't even need a healer. You can use him + two DPS.

Not to mention using the same party for the whole game is boring as hell.

Aaaaaaand that thread perfectly encapsulates why I hate competitive Smash and the horrible community devoted to it.

I know not EVERY SINGLE PERSON in the community is an asshole like the ones in that thread and there are always exceptions, but I'll be damned if the "pro" Smash community doesn't do a damn good job of making it appear that 90% of them are total dicks. Hell, 95%.

I'm sure it's just a case of a vocal few ruining it for the rest of an otherwise sensible, friendly enough community, but ruin it they have.

this is the case for every single "serious video game community."

my theory is that when people dedicate all their time getting to "high level" gameplay for any game, they don't spend enough time dealing with people in person. this leads to the rampant racism, misogyny, etc you see in "pro" gaming.

even when i was excellent at sf, i ignored all pros/youtubes/threads about that stuff. when it comes to games, fun is always more important than being the best.

I hope so, also I've never tried homebrew for Wii U or Wii. Do I have to do something to my system that is irreversible or hack it because I kind of don't want to?

I still have the last story and pandora's tower in their shrink-wrap... I should really get around to playing them :s
It's one of my fave games for the Wii, you really should give those 2 a try ~
