I see the fanfiction talk has returned...

I'm down for as many cool alts as we can cram into this thing.

Probably. I could see a Bowser Jr. trailer on launch day though.

Oh? That still exists? Okay *Continues on with other things*

But look at what you're missing out on!

Neiteio looked at him, then turned away. She jumped into Beelzebufo's lap, who was in the desk next to him. They started a hardcore makeout session next to Heath. It was tearing him apart, ripping out his soul. "No… Why…." He said, feeling physical pain coming to him. She looked at him and flashed an evil smile, then went back to kissing/groping Beelzebufo. The sounds of laughing and all of these depressing things were weighing Heath down.

This one is later than usual.
Then again the thread has been slower than usual.
I just had a Kickstarter make goal for a project I'm doing, so I don't have quite as much free time as I used to due to my work now having investors on the line. Therefore, posts aren't going to be quite as consistent, but I'm going to shoot for 7:00-8:00 when possible.

You're crazy. MvC has an awful learning curve. There's so much happening on screen at any given time that it's easy to lose track of what's even going on, and the game is entirely about learning and perfectly executing 100+ hit combos. If you haven't spent like 50 hours in training mode learning your team - and make sure to choose one team and stick with it, because these skills don't transfer - then you're basically useless against anyone who has any clue what they're doing.

This is so wrong. Mvc3 is baby's first fighting game.

OK.
I wasn't trying to sound mean or anything since you're doing this for us on your own.

I was just wondering where this was. I'm on a two day winning streak here
even though I always predict two characters
so I'm gonna say either Link or Ness tonight.

I'll go with false, I guess. I'm predicting that we'll see one more character reveal before the Japan game release.

Any PAX news for this game yet? I was wondering if we were going to see a peak of the new build.

Not that I've seen. We know a bunch of journalists got to see...something...but they're all bound by NDAs until probably the Japanese release at the earliest. Probably a late, if not final, build of the game but again no one knows.

It actually says neither. They don't get a "version" of the game, just written text and a video.

http://www.esrb.org/ratings/ratings_process.jsp

They don't need to see all content, just the most extreme examples that might fit in each category that weights in the game's classification. That's why we saw in the ESRB video a demonstration of the camera looking under some of the female trophy's skirts, for example. They wouldn't need to shot every female trophy with an applicable skirt though, just some examples.

In the same way, they wouldn't need to see characters that won't weight in the game's classification. Even considering the leak we have right now, there are several characters shown in the selection screen without videos. If Nintendo did end up showing the full selection screen there, it was likely a slip up, like Lucario/Jigglypuff in a Brawl commercial, although in this case likely because they didn't expect a leak like this. However, they wouldn't need to show the complete screen - and other parts of the video showed a not final game (trophies without descriptions) and a game without everything unlocked (All Star mode locked).

They do say "a" version, but in a sense that is not completed or is buggy.

It's kind of funny I only had Shulk's default clothes until I arrived at the shop in the first town, lol. Now I look like an entirely different character.

I still want to know why all the character models in Xenoblade look they came out of a PS2.

Is it just me or has this weekend felt really long? Are we really a pic of the day in a couple of hours?

It was the Shulk reveal and the CSS pic on Friday: it gave us a ton more stuff to talk about than usual for the weekend. It really does feel like an eternity since the last PotD.

I think we'll get Ness before release and one or two more newcomers. What's the point of the special trailers when we already know all the characters in the game?

....but it does suck.

Kirby games are hit and miss. I love Kirby's Dream Land 1, Kirby's Adventure, Epic Yarn, and Kirby's Mass Attack while I hate Dream Land 3, Canvas Curse, and the Mouse one.

Doesn't mean it sucked. I loved that game to death and will be day-one buying the new Kirby game

Eh, isn't Wii supposed to be only slighty more powerful than PS2?

I don't know the relative power between the systems, but the characters in Xenoblade look out of place - I mean, the rest of the graphics are fine, but the character models themselves look really downgraded. Look at Shulk's hands: they're these enormous, blocky monstrosities. Their faces are pretty wooden, too. It becomes really apparent when you compare the Smash render with the original. Other characters, like Rosalina, definitely look better than their originals, but Shulk is a drastic improvement.

I don't know, maybe it's just me.

waaaa. Why didn't you like it?

I'm not the one you're replying to, but I don't like it either.

I don't think it sucks, myself, but I gave it a whirl and it didn't click for me at all.

Everyone sings its praises, but the game doesn't appeal to me whatsoever. I did give it a try, but I didn't find it fun :( I'm sorry everyone!

The Japanese marketing campaign (TV commercials and giant subway posters) makes me think there won't be any more reveals until launch.

I'm watching gameplay footage of Link from Twilight Princess, and he's throwing boulders around like Superman. Since when has Link been so strong?

Yeah, it definitely isn't for anyone. The main hurdle for me was the touch screen controls, but once those clicked with me, the game was a bunch of fun. It's definitely a different kind of Kirby game though

Because at that point PS2 was still around as well.
Easier to make a less effort product on more systems then to make it better on one and downgrade.

I suspect it's due to the scale of the environments in the game. To get such a large scale working on the wii the characters probably took a hit in the quality department.

Bio
Mario is the main character and protagonist of the long-running and highly successful Mario series. He was created by Japanese video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto and also serves as the main mascot of Nintendo. Mario made his first appearance as the protagonist of the arcade game Donkey Kong, released in 1981. Since Super Mario Bros., his trademark abilities have been his jumping and stomping powers, with which he defeats most of his enemies, and his ability to change size and gain powers with a plethora of items, such as the Super Mushroom and Fire Flower. Games have usually portrayed Mario as a silent character without a distinct personality; according to Nintendo's philosophy, this allows Mario to fit in many different genres and roles. In most games, he is the hero that goes on an adventure to save Princess Peach from Bowser, but he has been shown doing other activities besides adventuring, such as racing and sporting with his twin brother Luigi, and even on occasion putting his medical degree to good use to battle viruses!

What NeoGAF Says
“Jack of all trades, master of none. Mario is by far the beginner's first choice and he is very simple and fun to use. Growing up with this iconic plumber made it very easy for me to know who my first character would be when I booted up that Smash 64 cartridge. Been my main since the N64 days and will be a main for Smash 4.” - Kriken

“A bit of a cliche but Mario is the most all-around character. His moves are perfect for newcomers, he's got the perfect combonation of speed and power, and if that wasn't enough, he's Mr. Nintendo himself in a way.” - nintendoga

“I grew up on Mario.” - Neoxon

“Mario is just the man, I like his projectiles and his overall moveset. Just feels good man.” - Diprosalic

“He's fucking Mario!” - SuperAngelo64

“I love the cape. It's so bad.” - SuperChoco

“I feel Dr. Mario's omission from the series was a slap in the face to Melee fans on the level of tripping. With superior attributes in every way, Project M did it's best to merge his with the lesser, but anyone looking at that Mario, knows he's not stock.” - atr0cious

“Grew up playing Mario. One of the greatest videogame characters ever.” - PadWarrior

“Not only do I really enjoy his play style in Smash, but any time I use him it evokes my countless memories of playing Mario games growing up. No character better represents my love for video games better than Mario; his series has stood the test of time and I won't be replacing his spot as my main anytime soon.” - OricWindstar
