The one PotD I am genuinely ecstatic for is confirmation that you can customise the controls on the 3DS. A for normals and B for specials is stupid.

You're going to need both TF and 3DW!

Please, sir my wallet can only take so much! I'll be getting both eventually I just need to decide which to get first.
Just in case people think Smash Wii U is delayed to 2015. Its still listed as a Holiday game.
Oh, wow I didn't realize the new Star Fox game was slated for next year. It seems so soon in comparison to its announcement for some reason.

Wonder when we'll be getting them new Metroid games.

Which controls would you rather?

I'm gonna use Y for normals, X for specials, A/B for jumps, L for grab, R for shield and D-Pad for taunts.

The thing with Petey is every enemy in Mario spinoffs seems to
1. Be directly associated with Bowser
2. Be an intelligent species with human traits
3. Have relatively "human" like proportions

Petey is neither of those. He's savage and dumb, and can't really talk. He's not usually directly controlled or loyal to Bowser. His body is tiny and his head is massive, compared to nearly every other enemy in the game that appear in spin offs (Koopa, Lakitu, Paratroopa, Shy Guy, even Boo) so he brings an entirely different shape to the roster. His body makes certain activities awkward and comical, like catching a baseball with his mouth and then spitting it back up to throw it.

It's too bad he was so unpopular they removed him as a playable character in Spin Offs. He was different and interesting to me, which is too bad he's now regulated to background appearances or the occasional RPG mid-late game boss.

Definitely! He's an awesome character. And I didn't even remember, when was he an RPG boss?

hopefully, I rarely press R on the GC controller, I grab with X, Attack with Z(for DACUS) R is like an extra button for either shield or grab

Hey SmashGAF! For those in the US hope you all are enjoying the long weekend, and for those not, hope you're having a good day in general.

Oh man. That was such an exciting day. I literally shed a tear of joy watching that trailer.

It's been a long ride, not nearly as long a ride for Brawl, but pretty long indeed.

Aww thanks yo! :D

Back to classes tomorrow for me, oh joy.

That would be nice.

My preferred controls would be

B: Attack
Y: Special
A: Grab
X: Jump
L: Shield
R: Shield
D-Pad: Movement
Circle Pad: Taunts

Also, kinda disappointed that Xenoblade Chronicles X isn't even a 1st half 2015 title considering it was initially due for a 2014 release

Everything I have really really wanted on the WiiU kept getting push back.
I'm amazed i'm finally getting Bayonetta 2.

Last night in Xenoblade:

I reached Gaur Plains. Magical! And prior to that, there was a huge battle against a giant spider.

I wouldn't say I'm spamming inputs, but I'd say I'm still "strategy-lite" at the moment. In the spider's case, I used Monado Shield repeatedly to protect Treyn and myself, healed us every now and then, and then focused on using the back slash from behind, the side slash from the side, the break-inflicting moves from the front, the huge Monado slash to clear out the crowd and deal more damage, etc. It was a bit confusing with the swarms of smaller spiders nearby. I know you can hold Z and then use the D-Pad to toggle targets, or hit A to focus everyone on one target or B to let everyone do whatever. But it was a bit hard to tell who was targeting what in the first place. I just know that when I used the Shield, it seemed to shatter the "prediction" of the incoming attack, which I'm guessing would've been a really nasty attack, had it connected. Also, there are many times when I use a break-inflicting move but Treyn doesn't follow up with a topple attack, perhaps because he's in cooldown from using it previously, or maybe because he doesn't think to use it.

Regarding chain attacks, it's rarely available when I scroll down from the Monado Arts icon (I believe the Party Gauge has to be full), but the times I pulled it off, I think I panicked and didn't fully observe what I was doing. I wasn't sure how much time I had to select each character's input. I recall the game saying it's more effective when you line up moves of the same color. So I guess this means if I start a chain attack with one of Shulk's attacks that have red icon, I should select a red icon attack for Treyn, and then Dunban, and so on. Hmm.

Still getting the hang of things, but I've defeated a half-dozen Unique Monsters and make quick work of most enemies, so I feel sufficiently in control, and I'm definitely having fun. There's just so much depth to uncover. Like now the game is talking about Skill Links. I barely understand it at this point, but it appears to be yet another way to expand the tactical options of each character.

Amazing game. :-)

Since I always had trouble adapting to button jumping, I wonder if it might be easier for me if I assigned it to one of the shoulders. Wouldn't have to worry about taking my thumb off the attack buttons then, which threw me off a lot.

Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time
Paper Mario Sticker Star

He was also a boss in Super Princess Peach, Mario Pinball and New Super Mario Bros.

Oh, haven't played PiT. I totally forgot he was in Sticker Star.

That was in the Volcano area? Really neat area in that game.

This thread reminded me that I have a little Petey Piranha plush on top of my wardrobe, I've just now shifted it into a position so I can actually see it.
So yeah I'm a fan, I'd even use him in Double Dash despite his giant head being a hassle.

Good to hear you're having fun.

Tips for chain attacks below. Spoilered just in case you want to find out this stuff on your own.
I don't think there is a time limit on selecting chain attack attacks (by the way the party gauge does have to be full). Although time may or may not be a factor in extending the length of your chain attack. If you chain similar colors it increases the attack of the next skill in the chain (by the way Monado arts and other character's talent arts count as any color which can be useful for extending a chain.) As well when your party members get more affinity between each other then the length of your chain attacks also increases.

Just saw the Shulk video. I'm happy to be hearing that awesome Xenoblade soundtrack and hope this means is going to be a franchise going forward but I really dislike Shulk.
He's the most boring part of that awesome game :c and looks like a boring sword character in here.

Absolutely stoked for Xenoblade but can't get excited for Shulk. Should've gone with Riki. Not many people know who Shulk is anyways.

Ah I'll understand that once I start back in Jan D:

Reposting as it was lost in the previous page, 3DS OG Smash:

Cool, I'm gonna be holding my OG 3DS for a while it's good to finally see footage. Bring on Oct. 3rd!

I hope this hasn't been posted yet:

That ending.

Oh my lol!

I'm playing Xenoblade right now, and I actually really like Shulk. He's just as interesting as the other characters so far. Granted, I'm early on in the game, but still... And he hardly looks "boring" in Smash. You're able to buff yourself in five different ways, so you can jump higher and farther, run faster, stand your ground against attacks, dish out more damage, launch enemies farther... all with different tradeoffs, of course. And his sword attacks are interesting because the sword can change its range. It can be one length one moment, but then you stab forward and the beam extends twice its length. I'd say that's rather unique, as well. :-)
