Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

Well, I'd suggest just trying Skype first since it's free to see how it goes and if it suits our needs then great, if not, we can consider alternatives.

Yeah, let's see how many people end up wanting to do this. Judging so far, we're probably going above 15. I don't mind the idea of people chipping in some money, but I also don't want to have people who can't donate not get to come in or anything. Definitely something to think on.

A server with 64 slots (looking at SmashIRc that's overdimensioned by like 200% if we count regulars and should be enough even if half of SmashGAF decides to simultaneously drop in) is like 10€/mo if you rent it for a year. That's a lunch of three days. Even if no one on SmashGAF wanted to chip in I wouldn't mind paying that and that's ignoring I could make rooms for other games and use it with other friends as well.

If it comes to payment that REALLY wouldn't be an issue :D

It got buried on the last page but how would people feel about an Elgato HD capture card as the first prize for a tournament? I need to get a new one that does 60fps for Smash anyway so it's either sell the old one or give it away, I've only had it for about 2 months so it's in pretty top condition.

Jesus, that is the ultimate prize if that ends up happening. XP I wonder what tournament that would be? O.e

Yeah, that seems the best way to go about it. Might as well start free. I'm sure some people will get sick if it relatively quickly anyway.

P.S. In researching Metal Face, I discovered a huge spoiler about his identity, but I'm oddly OK with this as it makes the character a lot more interesting.

You should know better than to research anything about this game until you beat it. Come on Neiteio!

Haha, yeah, true. I'm happy to pay that as well.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Do some test runs in the first week.

My favorite Nintendo character is Olimar,

Cool beans! Welcome to Sma-

I don't mind seeing Wolf and Lucas go

Sounds pretty damn interesting. I wonder what character would win such a tournament. XP

Depends on what the rest of the custom moves are like in the game honestly, it's why I'm waiting till I've unlocked them all in the 3DS version before I decide what the ruleset should be.

I guess I don't mind seeing Lucas go it's because I can't play as Ness or Lucas at all. I swear about half the time I try to use the Up Special to prevent myself from going off the stage, I forget that I have to hit myself with the energy ball and end up racing to catch myself when I realize that I'm still falling.

Lucas's Up-B is pretty easy to hit yourself in a good angle with. Ness however is the stuff of nightmares >.<

Not a newcomer, but still:

A good homemade Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte. Everytime you bake one without sprinkling the biscuit with Kirschwasser a puppy dies btw, so none of that non-alcoholic bullshit

...guess I'm entering, then.

I have no chance at winning, but might as well try.

On a totally unrelated note, I started up Xenoblade again. I figure I might as well, as long as I have this copy and Smash is threatening to spoil me, and there's no sense waiting for the n3DS version if I don't like the game. The Wii U ate my old save file somewhere in the transfer so I picked it up at the beginning (just as well, I barely remembered anything and never made it that far), but initial impression:

My god this is an ugly game, but I'm a little more optimistic about it than the last time I tried. I think I might be outgrowing my taste for console RPGs though, so we'll see how this goes.

When I play it for the first time I'm planning on downloading the HD version for Dolphin actually. Those textures look neat

I played the game on a Wii and a WiiU and thought the same thing.
Finally playing the game on my PC with Dolphin and the HD texture pack has made a world of difference.

Don't blame the game, blame the playa (these screenshots still use the standard SD textures btw)

Paul Dini didn't create Mr Freeze.
No, but he basically created the entire tragic backstory wholesale. Up until then, he'd just been a guy who could freeze things and had a huge affinity for awful ice puns. Come Batman: TAS, he's that plus a man looking for a cure for his cryogenically-frozen wife, forced to use the suit due to his own condition requiring it.

So, uh, not the best analogy?

Not new, but I think you already knew which cake is my favorite:

Higher internal res helps a teensy bit, but I'm still not a fan of the art direction at all. I still think Shulk is one of the stupidest designs (and ugliest faces) ever but I'm willing to put that behind me since the game itself is actually sort of fun this time.

I also don't want to go through the trouble of setting up Dolphin right now since my PC's in a bit of a temporary position and I'm missing my bluetooth dongle.

Sorry to keep hogging the top of the pages guys! I mentioned this a while back, but I'm now more officially moving forward with trying to get a voice chat group going. And since it's me, here's a graphic!

Will now I'm interested. Count me in. I need people to trash talk while I make excuses for my horrible play.

So if this is the starting roster, who are the first three newcomers you'll try, and who are the first three veterans?

For newcomers, I'll try Rosalina, Palutena, and Shulk for the first three. Rosalina is my #1 newcomer, and even being able to try out her moves in the single two minute demo was a great joy for me. I have also wanted Palutena to be playable for a while. I really want to try out Shulk's Monado arts in Smash Brothers. It will be an interesting experience. As for veterans, I'll play as my main Link, then Bowser and Zelda. I want to try Bowser because of his revisions, and the same for Zelda too.

Tres Leches or Red Velvet cake.

Please don't contain food coloring, please don't contain food coloring, please don't contain food coloring...

wikipedia said:
Red velvet cake is a cake with either a dark red, bright red or red-brown color. It is traditionally prepared as a layer cake topped with cream cheese or cooked roux icing. The reddish color is often enhanced by adding beetroot or red food coloring.

goddamit >.<

QUESTION:

Do you guys think customized moves will be available from the start? Or will you have to unlock them? Maybe you have to unlock some of them, but not all of them?

Or is that a ridiculous thought?

We already know they're collectables you find in various game modes. I'd bet on all of them being unlockable.

You will have to unlock at least some of them, they can be found in Smash Run for one thing

When I brought this up initially, there was a pretty good response of people who wanted to be involved. Being able to communicate with the people I'm playing with is really a big part of gaming, so I'd really love to set up a way for us to bypass the inevitable lack of chat on the 3DS version; hopefully the Wii U will have chat built in, but if not there's only more reason to do this.

I'm still not 100% on what program/site I will want to use, but for now I'm planning on Skype. If we can organize a list of who wants to chat, you should be able to just make a friends list and create a group chat with whoever is in your party. I'm also hoping to host a tournament for the Wii U version (more on that soon!), so if spectator mode is any good, this would make watching the matches a hell of a lot more exciting and make people in the community a lot more personable.

Also, if you don't like the thought of your voice being heard or are hearing impaired in anyway, this could also be great for just holding text conversations; probably a lot better than trying to talk to a group of people in the madness that will be the OT at launch.

So, all that to say: I wanna hear you guys talk! Smash just isn't complete to me if I can't have someone cursing at me while I counter with my own vulgarities. Let me know if you'd be interested in this or have any ideas on how to improve this idea. I really love this community and hopefully this has the potential to strengthen it.

I was interested, but I forgot to PM you man. I'm down!

Although Skype is kinda ehh for more than a few people. I've heard some good stuff about Raidcall and even Mumble. I saw check one of those out.

For all my complaints about Xenoblade, the basic idea of the Bionis and the Mechonis serving as the setting is amazing. The one thing that's going to be most sorely missed in Xenoblade Chronicles X is that wonderful idea of two worlds literally locked in combat.

The whole idea of the Bionis and the Mechonis reminds me of Mata Nui in Bionicle, and I wonder if the inspiration for the worlds might be similar to the real world inspiration for Mata Nui (Christian Faber's brain tumor). There are lots of moments in Xenoblade associated with biological health, like how ether is "the blood of the Bionis".

I remember this one cake I had. It was a complicated and exquisite one at that. It had flour, sugar, eggs, milk and chocolate, as well icing made from butter, icing sugar and vanilla, and there were even strawberries and sprinkles on top. It was fucking delicious.

And that's why I prefer Melee to Brawl

Maybe Strawberry Cheesecake or a variation thereof?

Mind flipping blown at the Bionicle thing. I did not know that.
