Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

For all my complaints about Xenoblade, the basic idea of the Bionis and the Mechonis serving as the setting is amazing. The one thing that's going to be most sorely missed in Xenoblade Chronicles X is that wonderful idea of two worlds literally locked in combat.

The whole idea of the Bionis and the Mechonis reminds me of Mata Nui in Bionicle, and I wonder if the inspiration for the worlds might be similar to the real world inspiration for Mata Nui (Christian Faber's brain tumor). There are lots of moments in Xenoblade associated with biological health, like how ether is "the blood of the Bionis".

Bionicle was the shit until they ruined it and then subsequently canned it.

Mind flipping blown at the Bionicle thing. I did not know that.
Yeah, I love how I never realized why the canisters were pill-shaped. The entire story was basically an allegory for Christian Faber dealing with sickness. I have to wonder if Xenoblade's story might have similar inspirations.

You would have guessed his identity far before they actually reveal it anyways. Xenoblade heavily telegraphs its plot twists.

I was about to give the counterpoint of
Alvis being the Monado AI and Zanza initially being a mad German scientist on the moon
, but I guess a lot of that was actually foreshadowed by the structure of
the Space Memory section and its conspicuous title cards for each planet.

And then when they actually happen, it still hits you pretty hard - probably less so, but nevertheless.

I had figured out a couple of plot twists well in advance, but then when they actually happened, it was still compelling to watch unfurl.

We already know they're collectables you find in various game modes. I'd bet on all of them being unlockable.

You will have to unlock at least some of them, they can be found in Smash Run for one thing

Ohhh yea, I guess I vaguely remember that being a thing. I could see that being pretty exciting, finding a new special move and wanting to try it out, as opposed to being completely overwhelmed by hundreds of special moves from the start.

Speaking of unlocking them in Smash Run makes me wonder when they'll start talking about the big "adventure" mode for the Wii U, and will it be multiplayer. I guess pretty much everything was multiplayer in Brawl, so it should be the same. I guess the real question is, will the gamepad be shoehorned
or brilliantly utilized
for any co-op modes.

Sorry, I think I have conversations with myself sometimes, what do you guys think? I know a lot of people would not want Smash to be a game where something like the gamepad was shoehorned in for the sake of showing it exists (Shake Smash!).

Well, to be honest, we still have SmashGAF IRC ready for people who preferred texts only, but if people preferred voice/text mixed, then it's up to Oric to decide whatever he go with. I highly preferred Skype because it's easier and simple for me.

dude, this is NSFW when you only had a sandwish at lunch

delicious piece of heaven, now I will have to drop by some bakery to get one of those

Remove strawberries from top. Put cake in the freezer for half an hour or so. Take it out and add the strawberries back on top. Enjoy the ever so slightly frozen cream, cold but still creamy and without ice crystals

Damn, now I've made myself hungry ;-;

Can someone tell me what's so bad about other m? I actually have a copy, but need to wait till I get a Wii u to play it.
The main problems is that it has a more fleshed out story, which doesn't really make it a Metroid game, and Samus is shown to be weak minded in it when she hasn't really ever been portrayed that way.

The gameplay itself was fine imo. It was my first Metroid game that I really played and beat since at the time I didn't like to get lost in games. Still don't, but I enjoyed Super Metroid very much and am now playing Fusion. (Which is also another not-ish Metroid game due to its linearity but I quite like it.)

Other M's gameplay imo is good except for the stupid "look around for a tiny spot to trigger a cutscene" thing that happens a few times. Very fun game and highly recommended.

I hope nobody minds me asking:
Why is everyone so sure that the pink fluffy stage in the Character Select Screen is Mother's Magicant? Sure, there's no other Mother stage there but series like Wii Fit are also missing stages and
Mother has not been relevant in years so
why go to an area from twenty years ago?
I'm more inclined to believe it's a Rhythm Heaven stage, which goes along with my idea that the Smash Run enemies are based on stages and not characters. So the Ghost from Find Mii is representing the Find Mii stage, not the Mii Fighters (they're considered part of the general Smash Bros. series). That way, the Sneaky Spirit represents the stage, not any characters.
I don't think Gematsu was ever real, and Chorus Kids weren't intended to be playable at all. Then again, I was on #teamfake with this leak, and now I have enough egg on my face to make a nice omelet with a side of crow.
The stage thing also doesn't explain why the Polar Bear from Ice Climber is in (and was part of the E3 demo, before anyone says they were removed).
Just sharing my thoughts.

Any speculation on why Wario is unlockable instead of Toon Link this time around? Toon Link the only starter clone, and I feel like Wario doesn't fit in with the rest of the unlockables.

I don't know, just curious what the conversation around this has been.

the only capcom character that I care about is Leon S. Kennedy, just get his melee from RE6, his cocky lines from RE4 and his RE2 uniform and I am done with maining Link

Leon making it into Smash would have been an interesting thing to see. Since just like snake a big WTH would be on top of his reveal. This is why for me MegaMan wasn't a big deal same with PAC Man they fit too well into smash. It was the same case with Ezio in Soul Calibur 5. If you didn't tell me I had thought he was part if the game.

To me the best cross overs always have a bit of a clash with the reveal. But when you finally see the end product is when things start to work out.

Oh Jesus, sorry. This thread is a minefield.

Thankfully I've dealt with bigger spoilers so it won't take away from my enjoyment. Since I need to see how things progress.

My guess is that either this isn't the starting roster, or the starting roster is based only around characters that have already been shown off. Toon Link was one of the first veterans to be revealed due to Wind Waker HD, so maybe they decided to let him be a starter, even if he is a clone.

Perhaps Sakurai felt there were too many characters from the larger Mario universe in the starting roster? It is an odd choice, and it would mark the first time a character that began as a starter became unlockable later on. (Ness/Falcon in Melee becoming secret in Brawl doesn't count, as they were unlockable in the original)

No one really knows, honestly.

I'm genuinely curious about the decision for keeping all three Kirby characters starter but making Wario an unlockable out of all the Brawl veterans. Seems strange to have a character that represents a big series (or two) on his own a secret.

I don't like you, junior.

Not one bit.

Sorry, just stating the facts. Last entry of this three-part series was eight years ago and Japan-only, and the series creator himself said the series is over.
And Reggie straight-up killed a journalist for requesting a Mother 3 port, so clearly Nintendo doesn't want to talk about it any more.

I thought it was funny since I've already pieced together what's going on in regards to that guy after replaying the intro and the Shulk trailer.

Pretty much anyone playing it in that order (Smash Trailer to Xenoblade) would figure it out, I'd imagine.

So if this is the starting roster, who are the first three newcomers you'll try, and who are the first three veterans?

BwUqn5MCAAASnJO.jpg-large.jpeg

In terms of veterans, I think I'll try:

- Zelda
- Zero Suit Samus

In terms of newcomers, I think I'll try:

- Palutena
- Robin
- Rosalina

I'll be unlocking Lucina ASAP too but so far the only other characters I'm curious about aside from those listed are Wii-Fit and Villager, unless Dixie or some other unleaked/unexpected peeps join the roster :3

I thought that twist was pretty easy to see coming.

It actually didn't seem all that predictable to me.
His character fit that Jack Sparrow-esque 'endearing, sleazy rogue' niche so well that I didn't actually suspect him to fulfil the role he did. I think the atypical design also helped a little.

and that's why I will miss Snake so much if he is not around this time, his reveal was even better than brawl reveal itself because I didn't see that coming at all!

hopefully being DLC is not out of the table

Yeah, the best roster picks tend to be the ones that make you wonder "How the hell is this even going to work?

About the only predictable reveal of that kind that got me really hype was Sonic's Brawl reveal, and I'm pretty sure that had everything to do with being able to have Sonic and Mario beat each other silly for the first time.

That's the last hope for him.
Hope they're taking a fighting game route and offering a third party character as DLC. Since that always makes money.

So if this is the starting roster, who are the first three newcomers you'll try, and who are the first three veterans?

Hmm... I think I'll try:

Newcomers:
Little Mac
Shulk
Robin

Veterans:
Link
Zero Suit Samus
Marth

The newcomers were three of my most-wanted characters, and the veterans are all characters I used a lot in Brawl.

I've been gone most of the holiday weekend folks. I was hearing that the roster we saw in the ESRB leak is indeed the final roster, and this was confirmed at the press event at PAX, among some other things such as DLC and roster cuts/considered characters.

Any legitimacy to this?

[Xenoblade spoiler discussion]
I wouldn't have seen it coming, but they foreshadow/give it away really blatantly early on in the game. The rest of the time I was just wondering how it'll happen.

It was confirmed real when we got the Shulk trailer and was heavily, heavily implied to be real by the leaked video footage.

No one knows if it is the final roster but chances are high.

Nothing has been confirmed by the still-NDA'd PAX event.

We don't know anything about DLC and all the rumors about it are still just rumors.

Nope. We won't know if the press event "leak" is true until the embargo ends, which just so happens to be Japanese release date.

Well the original Earthbound was release on the Wii U Virtual Console last year, so it's relevant again
somewhat

If we're counting rereleases and ports, Ice Climber has seen nine while the Mother series as a whole has gotten the three core games, the first two bundled on GBA, and the Wii U rerelease of Earthbound.

I would also like to know. I didn't hear anything from the pax event.

Edit: just saw the post good to know.

@Oric

Best program to use for voice chat is either Ventrillo or TeamSpeak.

Probably TeamSpeak is the best since you can create a server and separete rooms and you also have text chat
