I'm expecting this trailer is all we'll have to go on for some time

....If this is still coming out early next year, then I think a gameplay trailer seems reasonable :). I mean, just show a flashy battle of the combat system with P5 MC with two party members fighting shows in a red-coated city (I think with 'red' as the main color for the game, when you enter the shadow world, the world gets a red shade to it) with an amazing new battle theme playing in the trailer (please.....just give us something about this games music Atlus! The music in P4 and P3 was amazing :D).

That way no story parts are spoiled or anything major is unveiled; just a peak at the games battle system :).

I hope not. Call me a purist or an asshole, but I don't want that Arena crap in P5

I don't want them to show up either. I just can't see any scenario where they don't come in to investigate. They would be absolute garbage if they didn't sense a big enough shadow problem to spawn a persona 5.

The shadow operatives have to make an appearance in this game right? I feel like they have to show up at some point if something big is going down in this city. The shadow problem would have to be on the down low for them to not hear about it. The p5 characters will have to run into them at some point. Unless arena isn't canon and there is no shadow operative team.

I see them working in the Shadows and have optional S. Links throughout the game. I mean, they ARE a major force in the Persona world, so if they really are that (and it isn't just relegated to the Arena games), they should pop up in P5.

I don't think we will see Arena or P3 characters appear outside of a secret fight or something with Sho (I mean, he is called 'P5 Hero' in the games files for a reason :l), a new member being an important figure to the P5 MC is reasonable.

Damn, finally happy about the information but this was uploaded on the japanese Atlus, does that mean persona 5 will be 2016 for us?

A secret slink with a p3 member would be so cool. It would have to be really hard to find and unlock the ability to do it. Like people trying to get the platinum wouldn't be able to get the trophy for doing all slinks in one run hard to do. You have to do something specific on a random day to run into mitsuru or someone investigating the area. They would have to get involved with the new characters though if they talked. I can't see the new main character just keeping the shadow problem a secret.

In regards to the 'Ruby' or something version of P5, I don't think we will see one :l.

I mean, with PS3 and PS4 being digital platforms and Atlus fimilar with DLC (just look at the P4A and P4AU DLC stuff they are doing), so I think they will have a expansion pack a year or so after release that adds the extra content/gameplay refinements/ect for 30 bucks or something.

That seems reasonable I think :). I can't imagine them having extra S. Links as DLC or something....

I literally just finished this anime about 10 minutes ago and yeah, P5MC reminded me of him too.

And yeah, I hate what the fanbase has done to the word "swag". Not once when playing P4 did I get the idea that I was the "swagtagonist" and only after I finished the game and jumped on to forums etc. did I start seeing people say he was "SO FULL OF SWAG OMG XDDDDDD".

Feel like the Persona fanbase is the worst for me, so annoying, had to unsubscribe from the Persona community bc some/a lot of the users there were annoying.

That kind of talk only started after the anime came out.

Considering Sony is involved with this now (why else is there a PS4 version? Sony must have made a deal with Sega and Atlus for them funding a port for the PS4), I see this being a multi-regional release ala Pokemon X and Y.

Sony is making the PS4 version while Atlus/Sega/Persona Team is making the PS3 version, so they will have the Atlus Translation team working right alongside the PS3 team to get a English version up and running by the time both versions launch :).

I don't think English Voice actors will be in the base release (despite that being the case for P3 and P4) if this is a multi-regonal release (with them being added a month or two latter via Patch/Free DLC) as they will need more time to get the voices recorded.

Sony must see this as a huge game (rightfully so :D; P4G did wonders for the Vita in JP), so they WILL make sure Atlus and Sega have everything they need for an English version to be ready alongside the Japan version :D.

If you have the will to wait 3 years for the potential of an updated version while the rest of the internet is fill with information, more power to you. We see their recent games (SMTIV and Persona Q) having tons of DLC, which is a better indication of the direction P5 is going to go.

Well if P5 is as disappointing as SMT IV, I'll be avoiding it like the plague.

Oh, HELL yes. Finally, a legit reason to buy a Playstation 4. Sucks to think that I just bought a Playstation 3 back in March for this bad boy, but I have no regrets on that purchase. So excited.

I also like the main character's design. His glasses are way too damn big, though.

You think they will release it without a dub and put in a dub later? Is this a troll post?

Just a random though, what kind of 'sound' do you think this will have in comparison to Persona 3 and 4?

The former had a very varied soundtrack that kicked all kinds of ass :D! The latter had an equally awesome soundtrack but sounded....'lighter', I think :l.

This is the part I'm the most hyped about :D. I loved the OST's of both P3P and P4G, so I can't wait to hear what new tunes are coming :).

......Well, some JP games don't have a dub at all (SAO:HF for example....but that was largely Bamco not doing much with the translation X(), so that is just my guess :l.

Didn't mean to sound mean or anything, but who really knows how far along this game is, so I would like to think they want this out soon (considering this will be one of the very first major JRPG games on PS4 if it comes to NA/EU next year.....considering how Square takes its sweet time making KH3 and FFXV).

I really hope they take this opportunity to improve the combat, dungeon, and life sim elements(so I guess everything). Since the series has gotten more popular, they're probably allocating a good bit more resources to this than previous titles.

for those who say sony strongly pushed for the ps4 version and the simultaneous worldwide release thing, if you know mandarin chinese, then i think your in luck because there is no way p5 isnt coming in asia with chinese & korean subs - and theres a really good chance it will be before the english localization

I feel that P5 might be a bit rock heavy in the music department. Especially considering the atmosphere from the trailer.

P3 was Rap/ hiphop
P4 was Pop
P5 gonna be rock

Same universe but you can play them separately no problem

Yes.

The exception is the P3 and P4 casts are both found in the fighting game Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax.

But on the mainline entry front - the RPGs, you're right. You most likely won't have to have played P3FES/P3P or P4/P4G.

Their stories are self-contained but, unlike Final Fantasy, they are all set in the same universe.

Cheers guys.

I guess FF wasn't a great example, because I got the impression they all existed in the same universe. Although to be fair, it was just an assumption.

Really looking forward to it now.

But you inherently understood that Adachi and lettuce are inseparable, right? Played the game 3 times and I still don't really get that.

I dropped the anime pretty early cause it was hard to watch Soejima's beautiful characters done in that style for me, but if these people truly started using the term "swagtagonist" instead of the much more catchy "proswagonist" then thats a pretty epic fail.

"Broswagonist", man. ;)

You should watch the Golden anime. It has some incredible episodes.

I doubt it. In Persona 4 Arena they say they knew about "shadow activity" in Inaba, but they didn't do anything.

I watched the P4 endurance run by Giant Bomb. I played through P4G on the vita. I'm currently playing P3P.

There is too much persona in my life. I need to go out and make some actual social links.

I know this probably isn't a popular response, but I really hope they tone down the zaniness and fan service stuff and make a respectable, mature story.

The trailer got my interest piqued at least.

Mostly agreed. Though the occult factor is part of the charm, I don't think it needs to be quite so strange as going through a tv screen.

I think a lot of people will agree with you, but do you mean stuff like PQ, P4D, and P4A? Because I imagine that sort of wacky stuff won't make an appearance and we'll be closer to the original P3 and P4.

So will we see an insane influx of PS4 consoles sold in Japan?

Was wondering this myself! :-D That would be good for Sony, if so.

respectable, mature story.

Just kidding. Hard to tell one way or the other where the story will go, as we know so little about the game. I love each and every Persona story, so I'm sure they'll deliver something special.

Hm, I feel rock has been in both games really. Unavoidable Battle, Fog, etc.

Then again, the soundtracks are always so varied. Going from opera to rock to electro elements to jazz to jpop to jazz all in a few moments in a single game is unconvential.

I think it'll be very varied once again, but maybe rock will have a bigger place like you're thinking. Or it'll be more jazzy, or electro, or country
probably not
as the trailer could've had many different types of songs over it that would've fit well.

I doubt it. In Persona 4 Arena they say they knew about "shadow activity" in Inaba, but they didn't do anything.

P4A spoilers
They had doubts but they didn't know for sure there were and not to that extent.

Did you play Catherine? Slight Catherine spoilers, so be warned, but
that game seemed to have that "respectable" and "mature" story until it went batshit bonkers near the end of the game.

Ah, I see. Yeah, they could just pull that again and not show up in this game too, possibly.

Hopefully it pushes PS4 a bit more. Dragon Quest Heroes will hopefully help as well but it's cross gen.

Yep. Seems like Japanese developers aren't too confident on it just yet. If it doesn't start selling decently after all these games start coming out I doubt we'll see many Japan only titles and they'll start relying more on the west to sell

I've actually never played a Persona game to completion, just watched large bits of it from Giant Bomb and I was always put off by the incredibly over the top nature of everything, including the monster design - shooting themselves in the head kind of deal.

With this new trailer and sequel though, I see a ton of potential to be just a legitimately great story with no strings attached. I could be getting my hopes up for nothing, but it would be nice if there was a JRPG on the market targeted at adults.

Don't get your hopes up then, because if your problem is monster design then that's a staple of the games and they're largely similar demons across the games. As to the over the top, that's another thing as P3 and P4 had their ridiculous premise. Finally we have the anime-esque adventures between the protag and his group of friends, very slice of life and light hearted. This isn't Catherine.

Just wondering, why not actually give it a shot? Zaniness doesn't entirely mean a bad thing.
The whole 'targeted to adults' thing has always annoyed me, ranging from people judging Nintendo games to even Persona now. I don't get it.

I dunno, I feel like anything can be amazing if done amazingly well. Doesn't have to be dark and brooding.
