Summer Lesson (Tekken team/Harada, UE4) - PS4 Morpheus killer app :)

I don't understand.
If you keep your eyes locked in reallife and nod, this is exactly what will happen.
If you don't keep your eyes locked and nod with a HMD, the HMD's screen will reflect that (move down the image) but since your eyes are looking up, you will still focus on the top part of the image, no?
So it's this shouldn't be a problem, should it?

Keep in mind that what you are seeing here is just a rectangular crop of what the HMD actually displays. There is some room to each side.

Like, as far as I understand, you'd only need eye tracking if you wanted characters to react to you looking at stuff.
No way dude. I'd be motion sick all the time if the world bounced up and down every time I nodded. I just tried it right now in the mirror (and then felt like a jackass) and it most definitely feels nothing at all like it looks in that gif.

So, is there a sliding scale? Sexualized imagery of a prepubescent character is unacceptable, but a lower level of sexualization of an underage character is ok as long as the character is post-pubescent? Then, once the character is 18, anything goes?

That's really up to your own individual beliefs, I suppose. I personally don't find this game creepy or anything, but it's fine if you or others do. I just don't think it should be compared to porn or anything remotely like it.

I know the game is not literally porn. A casual observer may not give someone the benefit of the doubt. The OP made the thread title intentionally cheeky because he knew the content within would at least be surprising. Pretending that this game isn't fanservice is pretty disingenuous. And I'd say that most fan service material would be NSFW, even if it's only teasing (like, say, Kill La Kill).

I understand what you're saying, trust me I do, but I still think that this is on another level, even lower than Kill La Kill. But, opinions and all that, I understand.

It feels nothing at all like it looks in that gif because that gif is someone else's head movement. If you were wearing the HMD yourself and bobbing your own head your eyes would be fixated on a given point, just like in real life.

That's like the only shirt he's been wearing publicly for a while now I think. Or at least I assume that since I'm pretty sure that's the exact same shirt he wore at E3.

His shirt certainly set the tone for what was to come lol. I'm not even a IM@S fan but I respect that he rocks it with confidence.

This game made me think, I wonder if in the future it will be possible to teach kids using VR. And by that I mean school learning, to those that can't go by some reason (chronic disease, spinal fractures, etc). Make it a sexless robot, fully clothed, so that things like these thread won't happen, but I still wonder if that will ever be possible.

I understand that right now they use the technology to help people with phobias and to train soldiers and stuff like that, but I'm wondering if they can mimic the tutor role.

Professor Layton giving me museum tours.
Rev it up, Level 5

I'll just have to try it myself then whenever I finally get the chance. I am skeptical.

Are you implying that they all are equal? High school aged teens have been sexualized without much recourse in western media for as long as I can remember. The number of films that do this from thrillers to sex comedies are abundant to say the least.

List how many exploit elementary or middle school children? Pretty much none, because the "slider scale" as you put it, clearly exists in some form.

Well, I was asking the question because I wasn't sure myself. And yes, I agree that Hollywood movies do this as well, and are often much more explicit like American Pie. I personally haven't watched any movies like that since I was much closer to high school myself, so I don't know that I can comment much there. To try and keep the focus on the actual game in question, I do think that the VR nature does at least make me a bit more icked out (to use the technical term). Even when a slasher movie frames a shot from the killer's viewpoint as he watches his victims in some kind of suggestive or explicit situation, there is still a disconnect between the viewer and what is displayed on screen. The framing of the shot does put you in the vantage point of someone leering, but it doesn't actually make you the person leering. That line is much more blurred in a VR setting.

I believe in the exact opposite, actually. The moment the majority of the gaming populace no longer feels insecure about the existence of these kind of things, that we have finally accepted the fact that gaming is a thing that appeals to a wide variety of people of different tastes and interests, that this hobby is truly something for "everyone", that is when it (and the people who enjoy it) has "matured".

100% agree , well said.

what the hell

why is this monkey or mouse scurrying around the body of this female

lots of minigames too

Mufausa, good stuff here, bro.

I think VR coupled with the ideas in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vsCAM17O-M could majorly change the way kids are educated.

Yooooooooo nsfw.

There are some cynical comments on this thread that have a myopic view that I just shook my head at.

I'm interested in playing this product and trying it out.

There's something weirdly fascinating and lifelike about the demo, and I'm not sure if it's just because of how good the graphics are and how well the girl is animated. The only other factor I would consider is how reactive the vision is to head movements and some extremely natural camera angles you can get out of it, which is something unique to Morpheus (and other VR headware).

It's a solid, interesting entry into the range of products that VR will bring. God only hopes it's not vaporware like Milo.

This looks lame. I wonder if every single one of the people who made this is a pervy middle-aged Japanese guy.

Back on topic: Has Sony said if this is actually going to be released to the public?
It seems from Harada's tweet that this is just a TGS tech demo at the moment. he kinda says that if there are a lot of intersts in the demo during TGS then he wants to make this a full release.

I like how just because it has a schoolgirl and it came from Japan, people automatically had perverted thoughts about it and even condemn this game because of that.

I think it says quite a lot about us ;)

Japan’s Health Ministry Fears Summer Lesson Will Destroy Population, Begs Sony Not to Release Game

Announced at Sony’s Tokyo Game Show press conference, Summer Lesson is a virtual reality game where it appears you will tutor a Japanese schoolgirl using Project Morpheus. If this is released, public officials fear Japan’s population will hit zero before 2100.

Ahahahaha, holy shit at this "news".

Totally, I mean it's not like she has an overly short skirt or a shirt that defies physics and sticks to her breasts.

I wonder, could you try to paint with broader strokes and stereotype harder based on the limited information we have?

I didn't try very hard. Your comment pretty quickly convinced me to admit that I have no idea what the typical person who made this game is like.

There is no denying what sort of appeal they are going for, though.

This is just the millionth time I've wished that people in Japan would at least have some dialog about whether stuff like this is cool in something like the press conference of a major company .

I don't think it is cool to showcase something like this in such a mainstream show.

I think I'll plan to keep any children I may have some day away from the people arguing that this isn't creepy because some other cultures play violent games. WTF?

How do you know this? Girls and gay people won't be able to have a good time interacting with a female character somehow?

No if the interaction is full of subtle (and less subtle) ways to see the girl's breast, or under her skirt as shown in the trailer.

Also no if the girl is built as the traditional stereotype without much personality (or with over-the-top personality, i.e. non-existent in reality) as seen in manga, anime and games on that line.

I don't think that conference was really mainstream. But that's beside the point. I think there is denying what you and others seem to think the appeal was. You (and others) seem to be implying it's some kind of pervert game. The "pervert" culture is arguably what Japan is infamous for, but this doesn't have to be that. This could easily be a "moe," cute girl game. It doesn't have to be perverse, and it's premature to assume that it is.

People sure like to assume a lot based on very little. I saw the trailer and I didn't think, "Ew Japan!" I thought, "Hey this looks like a Japanese Milo (Kinect)!"

Lol. Huge article on the frontpage of Norways largest news outlet: http://www.dagbladet.no/
"Watch controversial PlayStation demo: What are they thinking? How can this be legal?"

Reading the article the two questions raised in the title are from a Kotaku user comment.

I said it seems like it was made by perverts not made for perverts.
