The argument was that "they should show all characters" yet they didn't bother to turn on customization to show Mii Fighters.

So yeah, I'm inclined to believe that the amount of characters in the roster doesn't really matter in ESRB as long as they show raunchy/questionable stuff, like say, animal abuse (see: Duck Hunt).
 
Gonna keep my expectations in check, but it does seem like all leaked pictures and footage were taken around the same time so I'm leaning slightly towards the idea of there being more characters.

Doesn't really change anything because we can't be sure, but that PoTD certainly gives me hope.
 
Also the Bowser Jr/DHD leaker may have very well just seen the ESRB CSS and assumed that Wolf/Lucas/ICs were cut because they assumed it was final (like we have been).

Okay, I would love it if someone could make a log of votes. Let's all vote, on - if we do in fact have five more characters to see - what those characters will be. The five characters refer to characters revealed at 3DS launch - not DLC or time-locked for Wii U.

Also, you have to be specifically right for a character to count - if you vote Ice Climber (solo) and we get Ice Climbers (or vice versa), it don't count. Though if you vote Chorus Men, it counts for Chorus Kids. My vote:

Chorus Kids
Tingle - I want to be able to say "I was the only one who stuck through to the bitter end" if he does turn out to be playable. :)
Ice Climber (solo)
Wolf
Lucas

I'm expecting Dixie Kong, Mewtwo, and Ridley to be time-locked for the Wii U release.
 
Mr. Game and Watch not being in the leak pic of the lock, makes it easier to believe that the pic simply was taken before the full roster was unlocked.

G&W was already unlocked in the leak.

They did show the Mii Fighters, in the one screen where you choose "Characters" or "Mii Fighters"

Yeah, I agree about that.

I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of assumed cut veterans are just unlocks that weren't in the video.
 
8 PotDs remaining guys. Sakurai is giving us one last hype fuel to reach the final destination...

My hope for Ice Climbers is still alive! Let's see what the last days leading up to JP release still offer.

I don't think that picture is going to change no matter how many you unlock. That would be a lot of work.

Good point, and a good example of characters who (if they haven't been abandoned) would be worked on down to the wire.

I have thought this for some time.

Also a small note but the pic from the leak and the one shown today are not the same. The one in the leak mentions something about a high score while this one doesnt have it
 
It would definitely make sense to move the Ice Climbers to unlockable - that way all of the retro Nintendo characters are under the same "extra bonus"-type umbrella. They have very little marketing value to anyone who isn't already a dedicated Smash player. There's most likely precedent what with Wario, Luigi, etc. It's even the perfect excuse not to give them their own stage slot!

I WANT to believe, but I don't think my heart could handle it... at least I can look forward to the dog.

Was it? It also talked about the Koopaling alts and Alph being an alt for Olimar, neither which seems to be covered in the ESRB video.

I see zero reason why he wouldn't, especially if he wants to keep momentum going for the Wii U version a few months later!
 
I hope we can change the intensities of the All-Stars mode.

Not gonna play until I unlocked all of the characters.

Website isn't updated, hopes for music?

I know people like to poke fun at those who think Sakurai is some sort of all knowing all trolling being, but I do think there's a possibility he flipped through the leak pics and saw the All Star one and thought "this would be a good chance to fuck with those assholes"

Sakurai is a potty mouth in my headcanon
 
If there is more characters, does anyone realistically expect Snake? I think the time to reveal him has long passed. Only chance would probably be DLC.
 
How glorious would it be if no one know whether Ice Climbers made it or not, and one of you GAFfers that is getting the Japanese game encounters this screen:

I don't think Sakurai is trolling. He's just showing us how All-Stars is available from the start and how it works without all the characters unlocked. That's all.
