Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

Really? HahA

Smash for 3DS is, for me, something to play on my commute to / from work, to play in my gfs house, on my lunch time and of course play from home.
Isn't that the same thing? Haha I mean I don't know about you, but when I'm at my girlfriend's I don't play videogames alone. Unless you play together, that's kinda cute, but can also be accomplished with WiiU.

Basically I expect the roster to at least be this:

Row 1: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Rosalina, Bowser Jr, Wario, Game and Watch (9 characters)
Row 2: DK, Diddy Kong, Link, Zelda, Shiek, Ganondorf, T. Link, Samus, ZSS (9 characters)
Row 3: Pit, Palutena, Marth, Ike, Robin, Kirby, Dedede, Meta Knight, Little Mac (9 characters)
Row 4: Fox, Falco, Wolf, Pikachu, Charizard, Lucario, Jigglypuff, Greninja, Another Pokemon (probably Mewtwo) (9 characters)
Row 5: Duck Hunt, ROB, Ness, Captain Falcon, Villager, Olimar, Wii Fit Trainer (7 characters)
Row 6: Dr. Mario, Dark Pit, Lucina, Shulk, Pac-Man, Mega Man, Sonic (7 characters)

And possibly this:

Row 1: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Rosalina, Bowser Jr, Wario, Game and Watch (9 characters)
Row 2: DK, Diddy Kong, Link, Zelda, Shiek, Ganondorf, T. Link, Samus, ZSS (9 characters)
Row 3: Pit, Palutena, Marth, Ike, Robin, Kirby, Dedede, Meta Knight, Little Mac (9 characters)
Row 4: Fox, Falco, Wolf, Pikachu, Charizard, Lucario, Jigglypuff, Greninja, Another Pokemon (probably Mewtwo) (9 characters)
Row 5: Duck Hunt, ROB, Ice Climbers, Ness, Captain Falcon, Villager, Olimar, Wii Fit Trainer, Chorus Men (9 characters)
Row 6: Dr. Mario, Dark Pit, Lucina, Shulk, Pac-Man, Mega Man, Sonic (7 characters)

I would make a visual representation of this if I was a bit better with photoshop.

don't understand why people think that all-star mode being with the lock in the video means that is not the final roster..pics were from an esrb video, not from someone actually having a copy of the game, nintendo doesn't need to play the game to unlock all the roster to take a pic.

of course, still hoping for ice climbers to be in,otherwise,i'll probably pass on this game for a while.

For what it's worth, it's not like I don't play video games when my wife is around. I play my 3DS a lot when she's watching movies or shows that I don't want to watch. I also take it with me for long drives when she's driving or on vacation for the winding down in the hotel.

They'd have a build to record the footage for the ESRB. The theory is that this build may not have had all the characters available as they weren't in proper working order.

People have already pointed out trophy text was missing so we know it's not a final copy of the game.

I'd trade the 3ds version for 1-2 more characters in the wiiu version. Once its out the amount of time I'll play smash 3ds will drastically go down

Would people trade the 3DS version for Ice Climbers?

A few months ago, I would have seriously considered it... but now that I actually HAVE a 3DS, I already can't imagine not having some portable action in my life. Plus, the dogshit-terrible quality of my home Internet means that I'll probably never get to play the Wii U version online, so I'd be giving up my only chance at decent human opposition (since my friends live in different cities now).

Reason I still believe the roster isn't final is because the way that fifth row is aligned. Hard to believe any designer worth their salt would leave the final product like that, especially when the everything is aligned symmetrically.

Unless they were in such a crunch for time they had to cut the characters planned and not even had enough time to modify the CSS.

All the exclusive 3DS content is only worth 2 characters?

A HA HA HA HA HA
But then the WiiU version would also have more characters, stages, and probably trophies/game modes, because it's not being held back by the 3DS version.

Like yeah it'd be stupid if they just didn't release the 3DS one now in order to add two characters, but imagine how great things would be if they never made it in the first place.

May be a hint, yeah. But we had this before:

It also might be differently aligned on the Wii U.

Yes, but that 3rd row is 2 short, that's it. It's not like the weird shape we have know, where 2nd to last row is ONE short and centered, and then the last row is like 4-5 short and centered.

Why wouldn't you make them align a bit better? Cut one from each row, allow for a border or something, anything? It just FEELS unfinished to me.

Exclusive content that gets played for 2 months until the Wii U version comes out vs 2 characters that get played for 6 years until Smash 5 comes out. Easy choice.

Yeah. A lot of people, myself included, are only using smash 3DS as a stopgap for the Wii U version. After that, 3DS version will be 'nice to have' when on the go, but I can live without it.

it was nice of Sakurai to throw us a bone about the leaks and how complete they are though. At least there's some good discussion being had from this image, even if it is basically another menu image.

I don't think any of his posts/pictures are acknowledging the leak, but it's hard to tell. These last few pictures were probably planned out weeks in advance.

I agree.

Portable Smash is a nice novelty, but ultimately just a time killer until my preferred version comes out. If I could I'd get rid of the 3DS version just to get more excited about the Wii U release.

I'd love to have Lucas and IC's back though. But as long as we're bargaining, I'll trade the 3DS version for no less than Lucas, ICs, Mewtwo, and Wolf. Thanks!

To be fair, Mii could potentially take up 1-3 slots when customization is turned on. But some characters definitely still are unknown.

I don't meant to be rude but people need stop bringing up the notion with Mii taking up 3 slots since they already confirmed that they only take up one slot.

This would probably be the absolute best we could get at this point, but I'm doubting if there even are extra characters beyond the ones in the link

I wonder if the same contingent consider portable Mario Kart a novelty too.
I mean, that's pretty obvious. There's a reason the console ones are the most popular. N64, Wii, MK8. The only one that seems different is DD/DS, where I remember a lot more people having the DS one. But that was the gamecube.

I wonder if Ice Climvers were cut because Sakurai realized that, as grappling characters, they would be completely useless with the new grabbing mechanics. And he didn't have time to completely restructure their abilities.

My wife and I sometimes both play on handhelds when we're about to go to bed or something. Usually it's Wii U together though. I don't think we've ever played handheld multiplayer games.

Looking at the Mii Fighter artwork on the site and the bottom 3DS screen on the CSS, they'll probably just edit the art so they'll be next to each other.

Anyone else getting worried that event matches might not be in the 3DS version?

Yeah, I don't think they will be. In my mind, the new 'theme' of smash bros is 'customization,' as seen by the Miis, Palutena, and custom moves in general. A feature that is only present on the 'character-side' of smash 3DS (since there is character parity).

My guess is that the Wii U lets you customize:

  • Mii Outfits
  • Character Special Moves
  • Stages
  • Target Smash
  • Events

There may be a preset list of target smash stages and events, but I hope that you can make your own target smash stages (platforms and target placement), as well as events, and then share them with friends. Just guessing/speculation on my part, but I think it'd be cool to make up your own events.

For example:
"All robot battle!"
You vs. Mega man, Rob, Bowser Jr, with only machine-based items (beetle, drill arm, (bombchu?), hocotate spaceship, killer eye, rocket belt, steel diver, bob-omb, ray gun, super scope, etc)

You set the enemies, you set the attributes for each enemy (fast, metal, giant, etc), you set the rules (stock, time), you set the elegible items, you set the stage, and you set the victory condition (deplete enemy stock, survive the whole battle, etc).

I wouldn't like to say the opinions of anti Smash 3DS fans are obvious because that would imply that I think they are a simple minded hivemind.

Also the sales of the games have nothing to do with whether or not they are considered novelties.

You guys. You don't even have the game yet! 3DS could end up being way more fun than you realize. Portable 60 fps Smash!
