Does anyone think beside playing it on the PS4 their is any upside for the PS4 version of the game?

Because I would assume its just the ps3 game "working" on the PS4 right?

I could be wrong, but I would guess that there are more people that have generally fond memories of high school than those who have absolutely negative knee-jerk responses to the setting. High-school wasn't the greatest thing ever, but a game like P4G sure made me introspective and a little bit nostalgic.

I'm pretty sure MOST people in the states hated high school. Not a lot of people I know remember it fondly. College, on the other hand, is a whole other story.

Other than 1080p and 60fps, probably no

Atlus not exactly known for it's graphic.

Oh, maybe the PS3 version is cheaper?

EDIT: Ok, maybe optional control using DS4

Dude, come on! Don't kill me with that pessimism! :)

Seriously though, you don't even think they would beef up the textures and the models A LITTLE?!?!?!?

Surely they could do that. Wouldn't take much work and the game isn't due out for a while.

I want to believe in dual audio (P4A, ArcSys), but my mind knows that it won't happen (Catherine). :(

Is that the one with the pink alligator? That song had so many feels.

I AM CRYING. WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME. THIS WAS SO SAD :(

This, Ys, and Disgaea 5 are probably going to be the least graphically intensive retail games the PS4 will get. Accept it.

Edit:

Actually now that I think about, Angry Bird's: Star Wars got a retail release, so that's not quite true.

Wonderful news for me. I'll probably get a PS4 around the time this hits, assuming we get it late 2015 or something. By then I should be able to pick out a handful of interesting games and make a thing of it.

Dammit why can't these guys make games with better graphics? I don't understand it! It can't be a budgetary thing. There are small indie companies producing games with state of the art graphics.

This doesn't have to push the limits of graphical fidelity, but they could AT LEAST strive to create a bare minimum of graphical achievement worthy of a current gen game.

OK perhaps that is unrealistic for a game that is being ported from PS3, but still NO major enhancements? I just don't get that. Failings like this are the reason the Japanese game market keeps floundering in the face of the Western marker.

Because Pokemon.

No seriously. Why would they bother making new and 'better' graphics for a game with a large fanbase who like it the way it is.
Think of all the people quitting the game because 'it changed' if they do that and all the rage and disappointed hardcore loyalists.

Why don't they also make cinematic cover based shooters where you learn how awful it is to kill your first human and how easy it is to kill the next 42000?

Because it doesn't really matter and they don't need to do it. In fact I'll go as far to say that graphics are only really important when the game itself kind of sucks. In this case, they do their thing, you get drawn into the world and forget about the limitations of what you are looking at.

And it is glorious.

The much better question is why don't Western devs forget about the graphics and make games that are deep and enjoyable, actually worthy of a current gen game? Because this game might just be the measuring stick against which all other games will be measured.

Or it might be shit. That would also be a possibility.

I can't imagine it'll look as bad as Ys. I'm expecting textures that wouldn't look out of place on a PS3. Plus Atlus has made some nice looking games before, look at Nocturne and Raidou 2. They've had so much time to work on the PS3 as well, they don't really have any excuses for it to look that bad.

The only thing that I don't like about the announcement of Persona 5 for the PS4, is the amount of people that will be bitching and whining about "1080p, 60 frames" or whatsoever.

Why not be satisfied that you can play it on the PS4?

Kinda defeats the purpose of announcing it for PS4 if it doesn't look or run better. There would be no reason to get it over the PS3 version.

People really care about graphics in a Persona game?

I think the PS4 version will have some technical improvements but I doubt it will be anything major. Being able to remote play it on my Vita would be reason enough for me to buy the PS4 version to be honest :)

Better hardware != better graphics
Better hardware == more capabilities

If anything, games like these have shown me why I don't need stunning graphics to have fun with a game.

Wait, people are actually worried about the graphics? Of course it's not going to anything next gen that'll blow your mind. It's a PS3 up port with an anime aesthetic. Hell, I'm inclined to disagree considering a better looking Catherine would look exceptional imo.

And for the "no benefits to the PS4 version": most likely 1080p/60fps, remote play, streaming, screenshots, saveable video clips. Of course there are reasons it'll be better on the PS4.

Semi related note, my hope for the boost in hardware isn't better graphics, it's better gameplay. Better AI, taking advantage of the power to do more stuff, not just look nicer. If you want a nice looking game, you don't need insane hardware: you just need to have a good artstyle.

Besides 1080p/60fps on PS4, you guys don't think Sony will try to use this to market the PS4, especially in Japan, and have bonus content exclusive to that platform?

Obviously Sony is trying to make a big amount of PS4 possessors in Japan ( DQ Heroes, Disgaea 5, Persona 5, the DQ Heroes PS4 collector.. ) maybe to announce THE game ? :p

I doubt they'd do exclusive content, probably just lead the marketing with PS4 from now on.

This hasn't been a computationally limited problem in over a generation. It's basically a nonexistent limitation for any turn based game if we're even remotely talking about Persona.

After seeing the logo and character design, I'm wishing it is set in the 1970s that these hint at (though smartphones and other things point against it).

If they go for a modern day setting with 1970s styling, that could be interesting.

Personally I'd have thought the better OS, features(eg. Share) and controller as well as the resolution/performance boost would be plenty of reasons to favour getting the game on PS4 rather than PS3 if there are no price differences or anything (Though in Europe the PS4 version will cost more I'm betting).

I meant for games in general, not really turn based games. I think turn based games are doing fine as is, haha.

I sold off my PS3 and wouldn't be able to play otherwise. That's reason enough for me.

Can we make that a GAF-wide rule?
Better yet, can we stop the reverse circlejerk since people have stopped talking about that the moment mods told them to?

Also, the 2011-2012 PSP ports of the Persona 2 duology didn't do so hot sales-wise compared to 3 and 4, if memory serves. While the first game (Innocent Sin) stars high schoolers, the vast majority of the focus is unrelated to high school. (The second game, Eternal Punishment, has a playable cast that is 6/7ths adults with full-time jobs.)

I've heard it suggested that the ports were a way for Atlus to test the water for moving back to that sort of storyline. I don't know if that's true, but it doesn't seem to be the direction they want to take with P5.

A man can dream...

I know, I'm referring to other games as well. AI is an algorithmically limited problem, not a computationally limited one. It's not the lack of hardware, it's the lack of know-how or focus.

One could postulate that having more computational headroom could give programmers more time to work on AI instead of other challenges, but that's a management issue more than a hardware one.

Then there's the whole problem of Good AI vs Fun AI.

Oh, my bad then. I figured more power = easer to make better AI but as you can probably tell I'm not the most technically knowledgeable person, so I was off. :P Excuse my ignorance!
