Persona 5 also launching on PS4, releasing 2015 ["waifu"/"husbando" crap = ban]

Well, there goes my last reason I kept holding off on getting a PS4. That, and Tales of Zestria. I most certainly was not expecting this announcement.

I doubt the game will get much improvements besides maybe IQ/fps improvements, and that's assuming Atlus even bothers for the latter as I can see no real improvement or necessity for 60 fps in a turn based jrpg. It'd be nice to have but not necessary.

I mean I guess that if phones are a big part of the game they could give you an option of using smartphones with the touch pad. Besides that though... the main advantage of it being on ps4 now is that alongside other games coming to ps4 people who were on the fence in buying one can jump ship now if this was truly the only game making them keep their ps3.

I guess I'm a niche audience, but the reason I wanted the PS4 and the biggest advantage I now see is remote-play with the PSV. Definitely going to buy it on PS4 now that I can theoretically stream it anytime I have internet.

Well then my problem with Persona 3 and 4 is lack of consistency in tone. Granted, it's natural in a 70+ hour game to have moments of levity to break up the monotony.

But that's not what I'm talking about. One moment you have the incredibly unsettling scenes like mentioned above and the next you have a giant panda mascot parading across the screen.

That'd be great.

Sorry, but you have no idea what the hell you're talking about. You're talking about it like everything's slapped together at the last minute. Maybe you should try actually playing a game before deciding what it is or isn't.

There's that too but I already only play handheld games in my room/away from the public eye lol. It wouldn't do much for me.
Why is the community thread constantly being shafted? None of that shit even happens there.
Probably a bit like the anime thread (at least now with more moderating). The few bad apples gave us all a bad name as perverts who may or may not want waifus.

You know what inclusion I'd really love in the PS4 version, assuming it's not possible on the PS3? Dual audio: the option to choose between a Western dub or the original Japanese voice-acting. That would cement my purchase in an instant. But it's Atlus we're talking about here, they won't do it.

If the English cast is as good as Persona 3 and 4, I'm not sure I would want to go back to the original VO. I usually prefer original VO, but damn Atlus has been so on the money with their casting of the last two games. Especially with 4, I can't even go back to the original (even with the anime), just because I think the English voices are so perfect for each character (especially Kanji and Yosuke),

EDIT: But I agree that the option would certainly be wanted. I hope we get this feature as well.

Also for golden they fixed chies voice in the dub. They know what they're doing.

So much is right about that cast. Even the side/background characters were amazing. At least for me, I think Persona 4 is up there with Steins;Gate as being one of the best dubs I've seen. One of the few times I actually prefer it to the original.

Could not agree more. They've hit it out of the park with the last couple of dubs.

I agree. I really liked the english dub. I don't prefer the japanese one at all (which is also good)

This is honestly one reason I don't want Arena Ultimax. Too many voice changes. I don't like Not-Troy Baker voicing Kanji.

Such wonderfully good news. I'm really going to be loving my PS4 in the coming year. (Assuming we don't have to wait until 2016 for the translation... That would make me sad.)

I can see that, but Matthew Mercer did a fantastic job. His Kanji sounds a bit more aggressive at all times, though, but both him and the new Naoto did a great.

Does anyone think beside playing it on the PS4 their is any upside for the PS4 version of the game?

Because I would assume its just the ps3 game "working" on the PS4 right?

Well, if they go back to familiar SMT principle that smartphone/computer = summoning device, and make the smartphone play a role in gameplay/S-Links, I certainly hope they include a Wii-U like option to make your Vita your Smartphone ingame.

Let me dream. I also hope for a timely PAL release, but that's even less likely.

So I am practically alone in missing the P4 Chie voice?

I almost feel like they're different characters. PS2 Chie is more reserved (forget the voice actor's name) while Erin Fitzgerald as Chie in P4G is a little more spunky and fun. Hard to go back after Golden for me.

I find Western actors far too jarring and out-of-place in a game that's so quintessentially Japanese. The Persona games are very Japanese in essence, so it doesn't matter how adept the acting chops of Troy Baker and Laura Bailey are, it'll always bother me in the end. Same deal with the first Yakuza really - perfectly good Western actors in the roles, but when they're supposed to be portraying Japanese people in what is a very Japanese game, I just can't suspend my disbelief. When I see more and more games of late providing the option of dual audio, like Ni no Kuni, Danganronpa and Virtue's Last Reward, it really does make me want Atlus to see the light. Hell, even as a pre-order bonus or DLC, I'll bite.

I really hope they shake up the formula completely because I'm having a lot of trouble getting excited about this despite being a former Persona nut

Noooope. I want some new actors. It was kind of weird hearing half of the P4 cast in Catherine, but it would be worse hearing them all again in P5.

O'Brien did Grimoire Weiss, from there on I'm okay with him in any game.
But...

This.

Seeing how I'm a Harry Potter nostalgia fan it bothers me I didn't also call this protagonist Potter-kun

Now I have two possible names. Edgar Allan Bro or Potter-kun. The latter is the most likely considering how many characters we would possibly get in the name.

Check it out for yourself before you bash someone for telling the truth.

Looking at the thread it's honestly better now, but in the past when I used to take a peek around there was a LOT more waifu type image spammage. I know it's why I stopped looking at the thread more frequently, and wouldn't be surprised if others had reacted the same way.

can't wait for Ron-kun and Hermoine-chan

You're not alone, although I am perfectly fine with Erin too. Troy not returning as Kanji is a bummer, I cried at the end of Kanji's social link in Golden because of that delivery. Made me respect the character so much more than I already did.

Hope for a completely new cast in this game though.

I love the voice actors in P4 and don't mind hearing them in loads of games/anime but it would be kind of weird hearing them as party members again in P5. I would like some new VA's. Cherami Leigh? If we can get Michael Tatum as an older member of the party I would be so happy. Cindy Robinson has a silly good range too, so I wouldn't mind hearing more of her.
You guys better prep yourself for Bryce Papenbrook as the MC. You know it's coming.
NO NO NO NO NO. NO. I honestly don't mind him that much and actually think he can be pretty good, but I hear him as EVERY JRPG PROTAGONIST EVER. I swear if I have to play as him. I SWEAR.
It'll be Greg Ayres.
And on the opposite end of the spectrum, hell yes. I love that guys voice. It's hilarious.

If you think about, Bryce Papenbrook makes a fantastic silent protagonist.

I've made this joke before.
