Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

Their big bucks will be thanks to amiibo. 13 bucks for a detailed memory card X 50-ish = lot of nintendo money.
Amiibos feel like such a better deal to me though, since I'm getting an actual thing. Even if the DLC is free or whatever.

The digital part of DLC just makes it all seem pointless to me. Needless to say I'd be sad about day 1 DLC. I'm fine with it if it turns up on the Wii U disc though.

I don't even like Mario Golf much but that DLC is an excellent value and MK 8 is getting an excellent valued EXPANSION pack.

How would you guys feel about Day One DLC announced for SSB 3DS like we got for MG: WT?

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=805959

That's a very slippery slope, if you ask me. Nintendo has seemed to have been able to keep DLC very fair (or even kinda ridiculously awesome in the case of MK8 expansions), but the thought of having new fighters and stages available for purchase on Day 1 seems kind of slimy because they probably should have been put into the game instead...

Guys, I was thinking... the official strategy guides for Smash Bros 3DS must be printed somewhere... right?

It bugs me, I know there must be lots of those in some warehouse in Japan (or maybe even the rest are already printed) and no one took some phone pics :P

Everyone was so angry when Nintendo advertised the Mario Golf DLC as a season pass. Was it a season pass? Or did they (Nintendo) just call it that because it was a golf term?

Nintendo's track record for DLC has been phenomenal. I think the 'worst' DLC they did (which was still really good) was fire emblem. The time/money ratio was probably the smallest out of all of their DLC, but it was still really good and I didn't feel ripped off.

If smash has DLC, I expect it to be something between that and mario kart (which is god-tier DLC).

I don't know, the fact that a lot of FE's DLC was free for awhile makes it pretty decent in my book. Fair enough though.

She's doing that really low to the ground though, and it looks like she's fast falling too. I don't think that's an autocancel.

Maybe it's a Smash Run thing.

I wouldn't be surprised if increased speed also decreased landing lag.

Also Troubled Bat I would have preferred it if you would have let us join the tournament with our own challonge accounts rather than just adding everyone's names.

Unless you did ask or something and I missed it.

Who handles strategy guides for japan? Some 3rd party, or does nintendo make them, or do they even exist at all?

Not saying fire emblem's DLC is bad at all, it's just the most 'expensive' out of all their DLC? I mean, for 6 bucks, I'd get like... 3 missions... which I could finish in 1-2 hours. That's like 3 dollars an hour. Sure it was infinitely replayable, but it's the least 'value' out of all their DLC. I do not regret my purchases at all, I absolutely loved everything I bought, and it kept me playing past the completion of the game, so it was pretty great, it's just not the best 'dlc value' that nintendo has made.

Actually, now that I think about it... maybe pikmin 3 dlc is the 'worst'?

Nintendo's worst is still better than... say... EA's best.

Not worth losing your job over, now that the world already know the juiciest bits.

A Season Pass is basically a bundle that includes all (or a certain amount) of the DLC that's coming for a certain game.

Do they do strategy guides over in Japan?

Kind of funny considering that Smash Bros was initially just some random budget title that Nintendo tossed out into the market. Now it's huge.

It's just one of those kinds of ideas that may sound silly in conversation or on paper, but man is it ever fun in execution =]

Sakurai knows what is fun.

Worst? Yeah, not all of them were exactly the best but I still bought all of them lol...

I do not have a problem.

I mean, just look at New Leaf Japanese guide :

Amiibos make me think Character DLC will be free. There seems like there would be more money in making a character free and then selling Amiibos of them than charging for the DLC, but selling less Amiibos because not everyone knows or uses the characters.

I just mean 'worst value' for nintendo's standards.

Compare fire emblem's DLC to something like Mario kart... where you get 50% game content for 14 bucks.

Fire emblem was like... 40-50% game content for 50-ish dollars if you bought it all. I think 1-2 of the packs were free, but yeah. Roughly 50 bucks if you didn't get it free.

Yes and they are way better than the West ones.

Nonsense! we provide somewhat accurate info for a moderate price!

Tho I must say I adore the offical(?) smash brothers melee guide that came with the game. I'd have never figured out how to unlock mewtwo.

Yeah, that´s the thing: It really felt much more like a proper expansion than an expensive collection of bits and pieces.

I also went for it right away since the majority of courses in the base game are locked behind the star coin challenges, which I was a bit reluctant to tackle right away ;) The DLC courses are all unlocked instantly after purchase, and the additional challenges makes unlocking the base game courses much easier that way.

I absolutely welcome DLC like that. Same goes for the MK8 DLC, something my MK-buddy and I have been wishing for ever since we started playing Double Dash together.

That's not how the leaker had it, that's how The_ Intruder translated it. The actual leak doesn't group the 5 newcomers with the unlockables.
I realise that now. But because that bit flummoxed me slightly and I kept my attention I completely missed that it was Intruder's translation hence my use of "they". My mistake.

Quick update on the lag cancel thing. The OP is saying that he is 100% sure that he was eliminating the landing lag by doing an input during it, and this shows that it's been a thing since at least the latest build with Pac Man (actually, didn't someone here also noticed this? I forget who it was)

When I played the game at Best Buy I saw the same thing with Kirby. A landing Bair/Dair/Fair would cancel pretty quickly on landing into a grounded attack, shield, or roll.

An interesting note, jumping doesn't seem to give your character any cancel time. So an attempted Bair - Land - Bair is much slower than Bair into a F-tilt.

Any early adopters here getting the Japanese version? I'm doing direct download on Japan's midnight release which means I'll get it around that Friday.

I want to post pics but don't want to "spoil", so is there gonna be a separate thread for spoilers or are we just going all in at this point.

My boy Mario looking good! Hope this is a technique present in the final build.

Hopefully Sakurai breaks this mechanic down in a POTD if it's actually going to be in the final game.

The clone corner of shame still makes me laugh and perplexes me

I don't even understand the criteria one has to have to be in the corner of shame.

You can't say it's for clones because Toon Link, Falco and Ganondorf are clones and not there.

Ok, so maybe it's for new clones! But... no, that's not it. Doc isn't a new clone.

Ok, maybe it's for super cloniest of the clones, like Pichu levels of clone... except Toon Link is with his series and Doc will be as different from Mario with a different down special and down aerial

Also with Doc down there, Game and Watch just chills with the Mario characters all alone and awkwardly separates Mario from Donkey Kong.

The clone corner makes more sense in a 7x7 grid, where there isn't enough room for all the series to fit cleanly without someone spilling over a line, but... the grid isn't.

I'll be getting it, feel free to PM me your friend code if you'd like to smash together.

It's possible dark pit and Dr Mario are lucina levels of clone, which is why they're down there. Identical animations, new character model, slightly different attributes (speed/strength, etc). They could also be a 'late in development' clone, where they were created after the initial roster was made.

Nintendo's worst is still better than... say... EA's best.

Pikmin 3's original two packs of DLC (for $1.99 each) could be considered lazy with five remade Mission Mode levels and five remade Story Mode maps, but the third one ($4.99) had five all new maps spread out across ten missions. Twenty new missions total, for the cost of $8.97, compared to the sixteen missions that came with the base game (six of which were boss battles taken from the Story Mode). It tripled the number Collect Treasure/Battle Enemies missions for less than one sixth of the original game's price. It's a really great deal for a really great game.
It wasn't Day 1 DLC either, clearly the game was finished before they started work on the DLC, which is the best way to do DLC.

For online I really hope you can 'invite' friends to play. You shouldn't both have to sit in an 'online waiting room' and wait, though I know that will be true :/

Are there any 3DS games that allow you to invite to play? What about Wii U? I haven't played anything other than MH3U online, which has an 'online mode' that you both have to be in, and THEN you can invite.

I also hope smash has communities so I can click a 'join community game' and it'll only pair me w/ gaf members or something like that.

Yeah, it's still good... I'm trying to just figure out the 'worst NINTENDO DLC' All nintendo DLC has been good or great so far.

There's going to be an OT for the Japanese release so I guess all that stuff can go in here. I'm not sure what the plan is for handling "spoilers" in this thread in the coming weeks.

But Toon Link is Lucina levels of clone, besides being smaller.

So the criteria is
- You have to be really cloney, but not appear in Brawl

That's entirely arbitrary...

I think you're overanalyzing it. the other two are probably clones in the same sense Lucina is; highly similar characters that were at one point considered for costumes.

Toon Link, Ganon, and Falco were all pretty differentiated in Brawl (and in Ganon's case, even in Melee already he was pretty different). Assuming there have been some more slight changes, we can probably just consider them not clones.

Crazy what they're offering.

Was Pikmin's DLC even that awesome?

Summer and Harvest Scramble were worth $50 to me ;D
