So the Xbox One launches today in Japan...

this thread is delivering with the photoshops

This seems to be nothing more than a symbolic thing "Sony, we exist".

Wouldn't be surprised if they lose money.

I hope PS4 sales pick up soon enough though, as that can directly affect certain game release dates.

That 4th picture at least shows 30 people.

The impression I got from previously posted photographs that they were mostly MS employees and it was difficult to ascertain which people were paying customers. I thought that the guy on the Japanese Xbox One twitter feed could only have been a regular customer. It would be really embarrassing to present a MS employee as an overexcited "jump in the air for joy" Xbox fan. But I think they actually did this.

Where's Swery's new game?

msft dun goofed if they didn't offer resources to get his game ready for the jpn launch. needs moar local flava imo

I had no idea it was launching in Japan today and don't even remember seeing any news about it.

Are there any Japanese games out for it or upcoming?

I've been trying to read Japanese forums with google translate.

One post translated into:
"Today is the wake.
Funeral will be tomorrow."

Well, I'm excited to see the Xbox One launching in more countries this month. I wish them the best with these launches!

Wait what

Back when the original xbox launched in Japan, they interviewed a guy waiting in line who said he was also buying a game loosely translated as "embarrassment molester hell" and console warz ran with it. Sony fans are called cockroaches because PS2-4 are shiny and black; Nintendo fans are called pigs or pregnant because of a stereotypical body type, and the word for pregnant shares pronunciation with an abbreviation for "Nintendo believer"

Reminds me of what they said about the German market when XB1 launched here.

MS sold around 2.5M 360's in Germany last generation and about 1.65M 360's in Japan in the same time period.

They also put forth quite a bit of effort and money trying to secure japanese exclusives to break into the market so this generation it was always clear Japan would be a far lower priority for MS even if Japan hadn't gone the way of mobile as quickly as they did.

MS's lost marketshare in Germany this generation will hurt more than what is to come in Japan

VBecause they launched it ahead of schedule for some reason. I'm not sure what they saw, but they saw something to make them move out early.

At least we will have one more day of Media create tracking to get a glimpse of where this thing is heading.

He may just be wearing an Xbox shirt, it's happened at other launches and conferences and I believe they sold/ gave some out for free at some as well.

My question is why did they launch early and confuse when and how they were launching?

I already explained it to you. This is a thread about Xbox in Japan. You post saying it's a shame that people are only interested in Sony/Nintendo and then contrast that point by saying you'd be missing out if you only played western games. That is a clear dig at the at Japanese gamers. You're implying (accusing) that they're only interested in Japanese things, which isn't true. Hence why I told you to take your accusations of Xenophobia elsewhere. You're implying(accusing) that Japanese people only buy Japanese products. If it were true, that would be Xenophobic.

It IS a shame. And I posted time and time again, I never said Western games. In my last post I clearly addressed this. I don't think you want to read.

As I pointed out, they may not buy many foreign electronics, but when it comes to things like music/fashion etc they are more than willing to buy foreign designed, quality products.

What the hell are you even arguing at this point?

I didn't call you racist and you are misjudging them.

Again, stop it. I am saying it is a shame no one turned up to try out the Xbox One. As to why is anyone's guess, it doesn't stop the fact that a lot of people who would have liked it never got to give it a go.

You're taking a few bad apples and applying it to the whole damn population. You're getting increasingly judgmental and offensive here. I would be very careful if I was you. There are judgmental, racist pricks in every country, but you shouldn't judge the whole population based on that. Hell, in the UK, there's a political party whose goal is to get foreign people to leave the UK. Should I just take that as a sign that the whole country agrees? No. Because the BNP are racist assholes and I know that the good people of the UK outweigh the bad by far. And if this is the kind of garbage you're going to be posting, then I won't give you the satisfaction of replying. So think carefully about what you say.

Um, or what, you will ban me? For Pete's sake, you are the one who brought up Xenophobia in the first place! You have gone from accusing me of accusing Japanese people of it to saying it doesn't exist, to saying it does exist for electronics but not music/fashion, to saying xenophobia is evil!

Off topic, but you cannot compare the United Kingdom to Japan when it comes to immigration policy. What David Cameron is trying to achievement is to prevent people from the EU from abusing British services. I see it all around, and it wouldn't be a problem if the EU migrants were spreading out, but they're not, they're coming to London with no real plans, spiking the rent prices up and living in council flats and the street because the United Kingdom currently has to allow it by law. It's not my personal opinion to have a referendum, but to dare compare our policies to Japan which have various stubborn issues because of their lack of interest to import foreign workers and aid for their aging population is insane. Xenophobia is a strong word, a very strong word, and only applies to very small minded people who are living in Japan. The problem arises when those small minded people are the ones with the loudest voice. But moving away from this point, NO ONE WAS SUGGESTING Xbone isn't selling due to Xenophobia.

Read what I typed. I don't care if it is a foreign product or not, the market for young Japanese people goes by apparent popularity and word of mouth alone. This is my opinion from the beginning, stop trying to put text in my font.

Again, Microsoft's failures in Japan are their own making. Japanese companies like Sony, Sega and Nintendo, have managed to make internationally desirable products and sell them in foreign territories. Microsoft has too, to an extent, but they only have succeeded in a few key markets. Again, that is their own failing.

You do know you are comparing Microsoft exporting hardware to Japan with a prodominately export country such as Japan finding success in consumer electronics from the late 80s and 90s?

As far as we are concerned, gamers can chose a console based on the games that are playable on it or for a reason neither of us are thinking about. My point, for the last damn time, is that Japanese gamers are not demoing the exlusive software. Sunset Overdrive may or may not be a hit in Japan based on if they like it, and if they never get to try it, it can never be a hit. Thus, a shame.

Yes, there are adverts in game stores, but that's hardly going to attract anyone other than the hardcore who most likely are aware of the Xbox. I'm talking TV, Train, Billboards etc.

Strictly speaking we are talking about appealing to the hardcore crowd. This is a launch party. I don't even attend them and I grew up on video games. A train ad wouldn't suddenly make gamers who are already aware that the Xbone exists suddenly become more interested in turning up to a launch event, unless such ad was for the event itself.

I commend Microsoft on the effort they put into the 360 early in it's life in Japan, but I'm talking about the here and now. And the fact that Microsoft gave up on Japan halfway through last gen isn't going to instill confidence in those who invested in a 360 to the point where they'll buy xbones. Microsoft (as a console maker) were an unknown in Japan, so it's only natural that people were skeptical. I'm not denying that it's a tough market to crack, but it's not impossible and it has nothing to do with Microsoft being a foreign company. It has everything to do with the product and the way Microsoft gave up on Japan.

MS gave up on Japan due to its reception. Picture the 360 similar to the Sega Saturn, because of the way it was introduced it suffered a stigma for the rest of its life. A lot of people supported the 360 in Japan for sure, they had a separate talk show just for it (which were hilarious) and even managed to get MonHan Frontier on it. I think they did a pretty darn good job at making sure Xbox fans in Japan has what we had in the West besides the multimedia apps.

Another broad, sweeping statement. How wonderful. And in my experience, Japanese people tend to think long and hard about purchases.

And another. Why don't you tweet Phil Spencer? As I've already said, it's Microsoft's job to sell consoles/raise awareness. And you're contradicting yourself. First you said that Japanese products are seen as being "more convenient". Secondly, you say hey don't care if it was designed by a Japanese company or not.

Um, okay?
Those contradicting statements are nothing to do about the Xbox those are they? I am direction responding to what you said. Perhaps you are clicking quote in order to reply and not reading what I am replying to.

You're right. I do like the PS4. I just wish mine wasn't defective. And what a feeble dig. You just moaned that I was having a go at your preferences (which I wasn't) and then proceeded to throw that in there for no reason at all.

Not that I care, but half of your initial post was about how boring as shit Xbone games were. I can find PS exclusives boring, doesn't mean much. In the context of whether or not Japanese gamers are interested or not, the point of it being a shame is that they won't get to give it a go unless they have a "let's see what it's about" approach. Who knows what they like when they get to play everything? Obviously Xbone games would perform better if they were multiplatform.

Similar to how it is a shame that PS4 gamers can't play a TR sequel right?

It didn't. There was a limited demo called "GT HD" which released sometime around the PS3's launch in Japan. It wasn't a full game and it wasn't GT4.

Even worse.

Because typically, Forza isn't a system seller and it's exclusively on a system that is undesirable to the Japanese market. You keep putting the onus on the gamer here, but let's get realistic. Microsoft, yes, fucking Microsoft, one of the biggest, wealthiest companies in the world has struggled to crack into many markets with the Xbox. But hey, blame the gamer. They should buy microsoft's products blindly to see what they're missing.

Again, what the hell are you talking about? Where did I imply once that people should buy MS products blindly?

See the above. And I'm done replying for tonight. If you wish to continue your nonsensical Japanese gamer blaming, send me a pm.

I won't. You will probably skim this final post to you, but whatever.

I hope you don't, because frankly, you speak a lot of garbage. Personally, I'm offended by some of the sweeping statements you just made. Particularly your logic that some idiots protesting Kpop means the whole country feels the same way. I love living here and have met some terrific, kind people and it offends me to hear you tarring them all with the same shitty brush.

I never said the whole country feels that way, you asked me if I knew the definition of Xenophobia so I gave you an example. You are the one making sweeping statements with your reaction gifs and pics. It's like every time I reply to you, you take my reply out of context and have a go at it.

It was an honor experiencing the death of consoles in Japan with you all.

Those Ouya imports will save it!

Honestly I'm not going to lie, that may be the only way for consoles to move over there really (unless something big happens) because you can play your phone games on a TV and it has that touchpad in the middle.

Pretty sure that happened with the PS3 to be honest. I would say consoles are treading water right now in Japan but its more like they're quickly sinking to the bottom after having a large chunk bitten out of them by the great white shark known as mobile

Just launched in Scandinavia as well, haven't heard a fuck about it. One guy in my feed imported it from Germany a couple of months ago but that's about it.

I am Swedish, is this for real? I had no idea that it was launching here now.
