I got it super cheap off FB. I've never owned a Microsoft console and wanted to play some of the exclusive games I have never owned, I was hoping if someone here could tell me if I could just put the physical versions of these games into the console and they would just work, or if I need to physically go out and find a patch, or if it would find the patch automatically? I couldn't find a definitive answer for this.

Here's the games, recommend some other compatible games if you want!
  • Ace Combat 6
  • Lost Odyssey
  • Panzer dragoon orta
  • Ninja gaiden black
  • Gears tactics

I'm not sure what you mean by patches? If you have a disc and put it in, and your One is online, it should download any game updates. Might have to manually ask it to check for updates. I never had a One, but the 360 and Xbox on PC works like that.

Is this a One X ? Would help getting 60fps in some games.
No, just a basic XB1, I'm just trying to play some things I missed years ago, maybe play Rare Replay as well. I'm not looking for 4K 60fps.

Edit: It was $50 and there, I was not planning on ever buying a Microsoft console, I don't need a Series X or One X. If that's your comment feel free to keep scrolling.

Not really most one x games still ran at 30fps.
Okay, but a few ones got 60fps updates on One X and this is a thread about recommending games, so the question deserved to be asked.

Dead or Alive 5 and 6 should run well.
Dark Souls II is 60fps on base Xbox One.
FF XIII trilogy through BC.

Xbox 360 and original Xbox games will require a full download even you have the physical copy, it needs to download a recompiled version of the game for it to function. The Xbox One will do this automatically, you don't need to enable or change anything. A nice side effect is even if the disc is damaged or scratched, it will still function for the Xbox One since it only needs to read the disc ID.

Update: For DLC, supported Xbox 360 games had their DLC migrated to the Microsoft Store so you can still purchase and use those. Original Xbox games sadly cannot have DLC or Live functionality - that was all shut down in 2010.

Xbox One is like any other system.

Hook it up to the net and download the patch. The game library tab should bring you to a screen with your installed games. And if it doesnt auto-patch, then there should be an Update games button.

If you dont hook it to online, you still got to sit there and install the game.

i don't remember if it's like this on xbox one (or if they tweaked it during its lifespan) but on XSX if you're connected to the internet and a patch is found, it will not let you start the game without downloading/installing the patch even if you have the disc

As others have said, you can pop in a disc but for BC games, it needs to download the Xbox One version of it, so the console will have to be connected to the internet.

A lot of those "60fps" games were "60fps target" on Xbox One X. They rarely ran smoothly. You don't play last gen console for 60fps.

Anyway it's telling that the best Xbox One games to play these days on actual hardware are mostly Xbox 360 and OG games like Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Otogi, the skate series, the Splinter Cell series (the 360 games are different but quite good), Burnout Revenge, Ridge Racer 6, Civilization Revolution, SSX, FFXIII (if you want to play FFXIII), Witcher 2, and Viva Pinata. So start there. In terms of actual Xbox One exclusives, I dunno... Ryse Son of Rome? Halo MCC? Halo 5? It's grim.

Works just like a playstation. Pop the game in, patch will download if the console is online. If you're online and try to play a game where a patch is available, you cannot start the game unless you download the patch.
Ryse and Sunset Overdrive are probably the best exclusives. Tons of classics via backwards compatibility that go on sale for cheap all the time.
