Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

We have Skyworld and Skyloft. I don't think adding Skytown to the list would be a particularly good idea. Not that a Metroid Prime stage shouldn't have been included - but it should have been something a little more unique, like the Phendrana Ice Temple, Artifact Temple, Sanctuary Fortress, Phaaze or Bryyo.

Now that the Ice Climbers are gone we need a new ice stage, so I'm all for it. ;)

Honestly, Hunters COMPLETELY slipped my mind.

But my basic point still stands...

Pokemon is a series known for a wide-array of characters you can control. Donkey Kong always has two characters working in tandem. Mario and his friends continuously get together and go on adventures, or play sports.

Metroid is DEFINED as basically being one woman up against an army. Only having Samus playable fits the series' style.

Of course, I wouldn't mind Smash, or hell, Metroid itself introducing more playable characters. Who knows, maybe Metroid will get a new game and introduce a character popular enough to be included in Smash 5.

A large part of me thinks that Other M might be the last Metroid game ever.

;~;

Yes, but she never had her own cartoon!

Never.

If we got Waluigi, Dixie, Ridley, Lucas, and Mewtwo in the next Smash I think I'd be perfectly happy with Nintendo representation. We're darn close as it is.

I still want to see Starfy playable tho

Would you be happy if Dixie Kong and Dark Samus barely had any differences from Diddy and Samus?

.
You don't know how much this actually annoys me. I'm fine with KI getting 2 new reps, but the fact that one is a clone that was already an alt color in the previous game on top of DK and Metroid not getting new characters is actually really aggravating. They could have at least given us Dixie and Dark Samus as clones or something.

So the commercial released and this one says "over 40 characters". If there really was more characters to the roster to make it 54 characters wouldn't it just be nicer to say over 50 characters? Cause you know more is better is a big thing when you market something etc etc

I think we saw the final roster

Just had an interesting debate that turned into an argument for no reason with somebody regarding competitive tournament play and the new Smash. It got me curious so I figured I'd get a response from smashGAF.

Am I the only one that seems confident that Smash 3DS will not be supported at major/high-level tournaments once the Wii U version comes out? Heck, am I alone in thinking it won't even be majorly supported before the Wii U version comes out?

My main point revolved around the fact that competitive players actively avoid using non-crt monitors and wireless controllers due to potential lag/latency, and having a handheld device that requires wireless LAN to play wouldn't jive with that. I also mentioned that handheld games aren't as easy to spectate without incredibly expensive equipment.

Am I crazy, have I lost my mind? I thought this was a generally understood and universally agreed thing.

I'm talking leading role here, not some bit part.

Of the 151, these are who are more well-known than Dixie Kong:
-Every legendary
-Dragonite
-Magikarp & Gyrados
-Eevee's family
-Ditto
-Gengar
-Machamp
-Alakazam
-Meowth
-Diglett/Dugtrio
-Jigglypuff
-Pikachu
-Pidgeot
-The starters

Most of these have had fairly large roles in games before and are remembers for some unique, important gameplay aspect of the series.

We already talked about this. The website lists 40 characters, that's why they say over 40, let's stop bringing it up :/

Yes, but:
  • Over 50 would give away any surprise and;
  • 'Over 40' is still accurate

Yes, but it also takes away the surprise if you say 50+

I expect that there will be some minor tournament play, but the 3DS version will mostly be used as a "training tool" to prepare for real tournaments.

Snorlax and Lapras for sure too.

Okay, so, Dixie get a leading role in DKC2. Still not more iconic than the original 151. Although, Dixie is a candidate for future Smash games and most of those Pokemon aren't. (Other than Pokeball items.)

Yeah whatever. I just went to my local jazz bar and asked if they had heard of any of those and they said no. I asked them if they had heard of Dixie and they said yes.

Proof is in the pudding son.

I think there will be both. There is no way, for example, that at next year's PAXes (and all the PAXes beyond), there won't be tournaments for both Smash Wii U and 3DS. There won't only be a Wii U tournament with the 3DS getting completely shafted. So many more people are going to have the 3DS version than the Wii U one by default (3DS vs. Wii U install base) that completely ignoring the 3DS version on any level once the Wii U version comes out makes no sense. Even after the Wii U version has been out for awhile, there will be plenty more people who have the 3DS version.

As someone who hasn't played a lot of Donkey Kong, I don't really know anything about Dixie. In terms of the general public the OG 151 are more iconic. Though after typing this out I realize this debate is pretty stupid, lol

The only thing stopping me from getting Tropical Freeze is all the other games I have to play. Metroid Prime 2 is sooooo good.

Sure, the game will be played a lot and organized in many events, but I just don't think you will ever see Smash 3DS at something like EVO. A legit, high-level tournament where competitive players go to, well, really compete.

I wasn't trying to make a point that the 3DS version would be abandoned or not supported, just that it wouldn't really be supported by the really hardcore competitive scene.

DKC3 son. Dixie Kong's Double Trouble. Like EA it's in the name. And then we have DKL3.

You are arguing for all 151 Pokémon, most of whom people have long forgotten vs a character who not only has their own leading roles but has just had a well received recent game that they've starred if.

It's a silly argument and there's really no point in continuing because no matter how many words you type, they'll all be wrong. That's not an opinion, that is logically deduced fact.
