Missed yesterday's character. It's nice to see Samus so high, though I'm surprised so many people aren't fans of her playstyle; projectile spam is very easy and fun in 4 player matches and her high weight makes her pretty forgiving to people not familiar with her. I'm not very familiar with using Zero-Suit Samus, but she adds a nice variation for those who like the character but want a different playstyle.
Also, the extended grapple and super wavedash are kickass.
Marth being so high is obvious; he's stylish and was so cool when he was first unlocked and nobody outside of Japan really knew who he was. It looks like he won't be as nerfed in Smash 4 as people were fearing, so good for his fans.

Is Ness and Lucas combined? If so, they have a chance. If not...a lot of people seem to like Ness more, but like playing as Lucas more, so the votes could be split too much.

One other thing I noticed, while we're talking about the character select screen...
First of all, look at the evolution of the 3DS screen - one constant is that the bottom row is always smaller than the first few, and that the character order is always consistent. The CSS for the 3DS version has a "reverse pyramid" shape and always has. Now, while we're looking at odd shapes...
The Wii U demo screen has its own odd shape to it - the top row is slightly smaller than the middle one, and the bottom row is even smaller. I think we can figure the general shape of the final screen by using that shape. My prediction? The top row will have 12 icon, followed by two rows of 13, and the bottom row of 11. I'd say it would look something like this...
...but honestly I'm at a loss here. The ordering seems so haphazard. Why is Greninja before Pikachu? Why is Villager up near the top (between Zelda and Kid Icarus) while Olimar, Little Mac, and Wii Fit Trainer are at the very end? Where do the new clones fit? There's no place to fit a "Clone Corner" with the whole Greninja issue, but it'd be weird if it was just on the 3DS.

Looking at it now and realizing who's combined, I think Link and Zelda will take the top spots.
Fox or MK is a really hard call, I thought both would be popular. MK is a legitimately cool character anyway. With Kirby only at 9, and Falco or Wolf no where to be seen... I'm not sure what to think.
Link, Sheik, and Falcon are in the top 5 for sure. The other two are pretty much a toss up... I could easily see several of the remaining vets taking those spots.

Haha yeah. I've been waiting for an awesome XL to upgrade and was gonna preorder it when it went up this week in Australia, but now I'm just going to wait for the New 3DS.
Pichu and Pikachu being their own characters is a bit weird when they're the same evolutionary family.
Heavily doubting Mewtwo will make it. He was ridiculously unpopular to play as in Melee and completely missed Brawl.

In Brawl, all the big series that a lot of people thought would get reps-Custom Robo, Advance Wars, Golden Sun, and Band Brothers-were the unlockable ATs (along with the third party ATs). I'm guessing that's likely the case again this time, except Chibi Robo and Rhythym Heaven will be joining them.

That Smash XL is just too good to pass up, imo. No way I'm not getting the red one, at the very least. Much as I love my Black OG, I've been long overdue for an upgrade.
I suppose I could get a New 3DS down the road for extra data space or something.
The most likely characters--in my opinion, so barring my guess for 0-votes Meta Knight--to appear are the following: Fox, Falco, Sheik, Link, Captain Falcon, and Ness. Maybe Bowser and Mewtwo, too.
Excluding the once-in-a-moon possibility that I'm completely wrong and Roy beats out Captain Falcon or something, only five of those will get in...but who :O

I was trying to put together the Wii U character select screen earlier and I just gave up due to Greninja being listed before Pikachu. It makes no sense. The 3DS version clearly follows the Brawl system of inserting secret characters in where they belong and shifting the others over, it's consistent in this regard from the E3 demo all the way to the final leaked roster. But I really can't rectify the Wii U's arrangement that way, and for only one reason--Greninja. No, I love feathered dinosaurs. Accuracy is great.
When done well.
Instead of good looking (and accurate) feathered dinosaurs, we get weird scaly faces and bodies with plumes sticking out in various places. When making a good feathered dinosaur, you should start the same way you would a bird. Taking a naked dinosaur, then tarring and feathering it is a bad idea.
