Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

Ok SmashGAF, I'm certainly no master video editor but with the impending 3DS release I've been working on a smash trailer for a bit and I set it to an appropriately hype-ass tune, so take a look and tell me what you think.

Well, that was badass.

Love how you sometimes used footage appropriate for the lyrics without being too blatant or cheesy about it. The sudden Sakurai cut and the use of the actual audio for the Megaman final smash were hilarious.

Only issue for me is that you cut too much. I like the timing of the cuts with the character reveal screens, but stuff like Samus starting a final smash and then cutting to her firing a charge shot just made the video feel jerky. Just tone it down a tiny bit.

For some reason I just woke up, thought it was 7 AM, checked the Smash website for the PotD, came here ready to complain about how Sakurai has forsaken us with no pic.... then I looked at a clock.

Bye for another 5 hours.

I don't think so. Monolith employees tweet things a lot that mislead people.

And in any case, Chrom isn't playable. Nor did Sakurai make it seem like he ever was in any significant way during development.

I don't think they do so that much, and Shulk was the next trailer afterwards.
As for your second comment, Sakurai wrote about why he chose Robin over Chrom, and said the decision wasn't made until after playing Awakening, so it's fairly possible Chrom was considered very early on.

As for being out of the loop, he did manage to update Mii to Mii Fighters at some point between April and May, so I don't personally think he's out of the loop.

Sakurai makes dreams come true confirmed.

Not alone in that dream.

Everything after MM was gravy but I'm so dazzled by all the newcomers. Hell my ultimate cherry on top was any Xenoblade character for that sweet ass Plains stage+music.

He also made no mention of newcomers that we now know existed as early as June/July. And there is no evidence Chrom ever made it out of the "let's consider FE reps" stage.

Allow us to let the idea of Gematsu being even remotely infallible rest. Leaker knew some things early on and made up some other stuff.

From the little over a minute I saw it was very good. The beginning with the E3 execs was great. When the chorus hit and Mega Man raised his head was really well edited, the high point.

The challenger pictures while in time to the music felt off to me. Also I couldn't watch anymore of the trailer because I really don't like that song.

I still like the theory that Chrom's model for the final smash is a bit too good and he's a shoe in for any character DLC that occurs.

That doesn't seem all that likely - characters like Dillon have models on par with the playable cast while only being ATs, and several new models are being created solely for use as trophies. It's plausible enough that he was only intended to be a Final Smash by the time any modeling actually began. Besides, it'd be a fairly poor choice of character for DLC - even as a clone, there are better choices.

Considering Monolith tweeting about the reveal I'd say Sakurai was going to reveal Shulk and then changed it to drum up doubt in the leak and therefore hype. He did the same thing with the All-star picture.

Or it could just be coincidence.

So he also had Famitsu in on this, that had already gone to publication by the time the trailer came out, and had them reprint the Smash article that came out two days later to be about Lucina and Robin?

This is really random, but I love reading all the reactions people had to newcomer trailers, so I've compiled the post-E3 2013 ones if anyone else is interested in reading through them; there's some really funny stuff! Obviously Robin / Lucina is the best, as people are losing their fucking minds. Shame that the reaction to Shulk is relatively calm considering the leak. Anyway, here ya go:

Rosalina
Little Mac
Greninja
Mii Fighters
Palutena
Pac-Man
Robin / Lucina
Shulk

DAT Lucina/Robin/Falcon reveal...one of the greatest surprises Sakurai has pulled off.

This is actually really cool! Good song choice, great editing.

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice, It definitely could've used some more time in the oven but I was getting tired of editing and just wanted to send it out.

Love it.

I don't think we've gotten confirmation any boss aside from Yellow Devil is defeatable.

Speaking of bosses, has there been some sort of confirmation ("leak" ha) of the playable "boss mode" for the WiiU version? I recall reading a rumour about it and I really liked that idea.

I'm just throwing this out there and people can feel free to think I'm crazy but

What if

the people who work at Monolith

ALSO like video games and retweet things that they find interesting

Shit son, I thought they were just robots on an assembly line. You're telling me people make these things?

Like the other day I retweeted the Bayonetta Direct announcement.

Despite otherwise flawless logic, I am not working on Bayonetta 2! I am mostly just looking forward to the game!

Perfectly reasonable and I basically agree. I still like the theory.

He also made no mention of newcomers that we now know existed as early as June/July. And there is no evidence Chrom ever made it out of the "let's consider FE reps" stage.

Let's look at the Pokemon X and Y leak that happened last year. It's the closest big leak, in terms of time anyways, to the Gematsu leak:
-Made mention of Mewtwo having another form
-Made mention of Kanto starters
-Mentioned a few Pokemon
-Didn't mention a thing about Mega Evolutions, one of the biggest features in X and Y, and very hard to miss.
It's very clear that Nintendo divvies up testing of their games for the majority of their development, going off of this, as to prevent major leaks from happening.

My running theory is that the guy only saw parts of the game, thus giving him only a partial idea of what was in it, and that he used guesses to make up the remaining roster, similar to how we do.

I still think he's either involved in modeling or testing, and repeated either what he heard and made guesses from what he saw, or saw detailed models of Chrom and Chorus Kids and assumed they were playable. I mean, shit Chrom's model looks like a damn playable character.

Overall, it's just easier for me to believe that he wasn't trying to lie when he reported the second batch of newcomers, and that he simply reported incorrect info for some reason or another. I mean, the dude was right about all but two characters.

I was hoping someone would do this. Thanks! :)

But you're not a game developer lol, so of course you retweet stuff and it doesn't mean anything.

Only that one thing was retweeted. Sakurai probably asked them to help misdirect us.

Xenoblade Chronicles update:

I'll be vague so as to not spoil others.

Went through the mines... and the marshlands... Now I'm inside Bionis, presumably headed for the forest... WOW. This game just keeps delivering. I spent a good couple hours just exploring the marshlands... I almost want to call them Gaur Plains 2: Electric Bog Boogaloo.

Glad you're enjoying it! Man, how much have you been playing?

Did you get to see the Satorl Marsh at night, the visuals and music really excel there.

Well this is embarrassing...
Yep. I guess this means no Waluigi. Excuse me while I laugh at the suffering. >:D
