Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

Whoo, new music! I'm loving the Super Mario 3D Land arrangement, while the Tomodachi Life one is kind of meh... I'm familiar with that game's music since I've been playing it a lot recently, and the arrangement's a little too loose for my tastes.

So SmashGAF, now that we have a healthy number of music samples on the site (11, and so quickly at that!), what are your favorites and least favorites? My list is shaking out roughly like this:

1. Bath Time Theme (Vocal Mix)
2. Super Mario 3D Land / Beach Theme
3. Multi-Man Smash
4. Full Steam Ahead (Spirit Tracks)
5. Battle! (Trainer Battle) (Pokémon X and Pokémon Y)
6. Green Greens Vol. 2
7. Mega Man 2 Medley
8. Wrath of the Reset Bomb
9. Theme from Area 6 / Missile Slipstream
10. Tomodachi Life
11. Try, Try Again

The more I listen to Greens Greens Vol. 2, the more I realize I actually like it quite a bit! Sadly, no matter how many times I listen to the Try, Try Again rearrangement, I just can't get into it at all. I just wish they'd ripped the original version from Dream Team and used that instead. :/

Can't wait for more music next week! I want to hear more Mega Man, Zelda, and Pokémon arrangements...

I generally agree - if I had to rank them, it'd probably look something like this.

1. Multi-Man Smash
2. Super Mario 3D Land / Beach Theme
3. Battle! (Trainer Battle) (Pokémon X and Pokémon Y)
4. Green Greens Vol. 2
5. Mega Man 2 Medley
6. Bath Time Theme (Vocal Mix)
7. Full Steam Ahead (Spirit Tracks)
8. Tomodachi Life
9. Wrath of the Reset Bomb
10. Theme from Area 6 / Missile Slipstream
11. Try, Try Again

It's still a high global level of quality, and I'm looking forward to hearing more. I'm especially interested in finding out whatever it was that Nobuko Toda arranged.

I love the look of the uk box art

It's the same as NA/JP, no?

The new Tomodachi Life arrangement is nice!
I like the tubular in the Super Mario 3D Land theme / Beach theme! Some parts of the new arrangement sound a lot like a Mario Kart or a Donkey Kong song though... I guess it's the brass/woodwinds they used. Gotta see how it plays out with the Stage though, to really get an opinion on that one.

I think the boxes should have fit Mega Man and Pac-Man in there somewhere.

They're on the back (along with Sonic) just like Sonic and Snake were for Brawl.

If I had to guess, part of the deal with getting the characters into the game probably entails "cannot use them as the primary focus of box art" or something like that. A lot of small things pop up in licensing along those lines.

Robin Williams specified in his dealings with Disney for Aladdin that the Genie shouldn't take up more than 25% of the movie's poster and that his voice wouldn't be used to 'sell the movie'. They didn't have a written contract so of course Disney threw that all out the window once they realized the character was going to be one of the main draws for the film. Disney and Warner Bros. had a similar deal going on in the big cartoon crossover movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit- Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny had to have the exact same amount of screen time as one another down to how many frames of animation they appeared in.

Similarly, a lot of game studios and comic book companies do stuff like this when crossovers are involved. (Marvel and DC have a lot of weird requirements when they work with one another) We can probably assume that Pac-Man, Mega Man, Sonic, and Snake(RIP) all have/had a "can be used in marketing, get their own announcement trailer, cannot be prominent on box art" clauses. Notice how Sonic is the only veteran with his very own reveal trailer? And how it's much more low-effort than the other ones, consisting entirely of gameplay? Contractual requirement, I'm sure.

This is all conjecture on my part but I have a feeling it's close to the truth.

So after a bit of thinking and wondering if I'd be happy with the speed in the game. I looked up some playlists and I'm pretty sure this game looks like it has good combo game like Melee, but a tad slowed down to more than Brawl but not exactly Melee.

Playlists in question:

I'm excited for 1 v 1 matches again. Brawl was fun for about 6 months, but this.. I think I'll get quite the mileage with Sm4sh.

Pic of the day. So what is this Games & More option in the menu? I assume that some people may use this mode the most.

This is what you see after you click on Games & More. There are many modes to choose from. There's the Options button, too.

Futhermore, this is what the screen looks like after you click on Solo. In the Stadium, you can find the Home-Run Contest, various Multi-Man Smash challenges, and Target Blast!
lol menus, back to sleep.

I'm constantly switching between thinking it looks reasonably good and thinking it looks boringly slow and defensive.

I Pretty much have to wait for the WiiU version to come out before I decide if it's a 6 month game or a 6 year game, the 3DS version will be alright but without the proper controls I won't really be able to decide how well the game plays.

My main problem is when people say "It's just because people are new to the game, it'll get better when they get their hands on it!", to me that just means the competitive meta will get more like Brawl as people learn what the best tactics are, the game still favours defense regardless of how new the people are to it and I am not looking forward to going back to PM if the game turns out like that again.

Holy shit, the people playing in that first playlist are unbelievably obnoxious (or at least the people recording them are). The Fox/Rosalina & Luma one is the worst. I'm surprised a Best Buy employee didn't tell them to quiet down or GTFO.

That said, the dude playing Mega Man in both matches does all right. Obviously we're all still learning, but he plays a fairly inspired Mega Man for having just tried him for the first time (presumably).

For anyone who missed it, I'll post this one last time (as a shameless self-plug...)

Finally got the video to play, and dude, this is fantastic! This should totally be added to the OP. Great job! My only criticisms are that the part with Mega Man's Final Smash would be better if it wasn't the clip from the Invitational (right now the dude losing his shit kinda clashes with the music), and the very end (the "kick your ass" part) is kinda weak in that it just kinda... dies off. Other than those two minor things, though, this is REALLY cool!

Honestly, I think the majority of people are going to have to move on from Melee/PM and go to Smash 4. Nintendo are gonna want people to play it if they continue to get behind EVO etc.

This whole scenario reminds me of CS 1.6/CSS/CSGO. If CS players kept playing 1.6 in spite of the time and money sunk into it from Valve the entire CS scene would be dead by now, but it's flourishing instead because people moved on.

Do we have official names for Greninja's, Mii Gunner's, and Robin's Final Smashes yet? I know we've seen them all, but I can't remember if we know their names yet.

I thought Greninja's was Night Slash before, but I don't think that's it...

Greninja is Mysterious Ninja.

And it seems like DeDeBurst is a step down compared to DeDeDe Parade. He sucks the enemy in the basket with a Bomber and repeatedly mashes it with a hammer.

Amazing! :D

I think Sakurai arranged the ESRB leak and is going to change all the characters out just to fuck with us.

Yep, I would agree with you there. :P

I guess some magazine? Actually, to me it looks glossy like a manual...

Anyway, it shows Diddy and DeDeDe's moves off, and DeDeDe's Final Smash is clearly different.

Yeah, I just saw that. I wonder where it came from.

I can't understand any song list without Mega man 2 medley on first... I guess if you remove the nostalgia factor, BUT STILL!!!!!

Nintendogs is top simply because it's from a game one doesn't think about for good music (that's not to knock the music of the game, just that no one ever mentions it in best music threads).

Also I'm a sucker for do wop like vocals.

I agree. The Multi-man mix is really good too, but that Mega Man song. When I heard it during the direct when the game was first shown off, hype went off the charts. I'm excited to hear other Mega Man tracks.

I hope that we are getting the features in Wii U that didn't made in 3DS

They've been pretty quiet on the Wii U front of extra modes. It would be pretty disappointing to not have much a difference between both versions. I didn't spend a ton of time in the Stage Editor, but I would hate to see it go.

Please Sakurai, we've already been cut too deep.

I'm expecting Wii U to get Events and Stage editor and AT LEAST 1 more new big mode.

They can't leave Wii U without something big and new...

There will be other modes for the Wii U. Don't expect to hear them for a while until the 3DS version is out.
