Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

Fuck "facing leaks to deaden the pain." The cuts are supremely de-hyping. Not that the roster isn't great, but I need to believe.

I'm believing in more characters to keep hype alive for this game.

I would like to take this time to say I despise the way GAF uses the word "salty" to describe being bitter and irritated. I never heard the term used that way until I joined GAF in May and I've been an active part of gaming forums since I was in junior high.

It's come up a lot these last two pages. I hate it. Not just because I have a strong negative reaction to the phrase, but because it is used constantly. Why does GAF use "salt" and "salty" so liberally? How did this term become so popular on this board? The reaction images, the self-description, the accusation: everyone is "salty" or "salted" about something.

Damn. I've never hated something so small so passionately before. Something so meaningless and should have zero affect on me makes my blood pressure

increase.

I read once that as you get older and your mind begins to crystallize its your favorite patterns or perspectives you become involuntarily resistant to new things. Maybe it bothers me so much because I've been part of the Smash hype cycle for a long time and this phrase that wasn't here seven years ago is now. So my brain hates it because for the first time on the internet there is a new term everybody uses that I wasn't part of. Especially because it's in a community I've always been part of.

It's like that episode of Spongebob when Pearl and all her friends describe cool things as "coral." That's how you all sound to me. I am the disconnected Mr. Krabs.

I'm actually hoping Lucas and Wolf aren't alts. They are unique enough that I'd rather have hope for them as DLC than lose their movesets if they become alts.

Yeah, the second that they're revealed as alts, their chances of coming back as DLC in true form kinda plummet

At least smash isn't like mortal kombat X

Warner Bros also revealed that gamers who pre-order X will be privy to an exclusive DLC character: Goro. One of the series' most famous villains, his return in X (gated as it is) will mark his first playable appearance in the franchise in more than eight years.

Game comes out in april and they're already announcing DLC characters. Sigh :/

Well, SmashGAF, I bid you farewell.

You gone for fear of leaks? Roger roger, see you Oct 3rd!

So what are you gonna do a week from now?

Fire worker, "salty" is a very common term in fighting game communities. It's not a GAF thing lol.

I grew up with that word where I'm from and have only used it once in all of these smash threads (I think). Just have to accept that everyone is different and have different upbringings and move on. The internet just tends to revive old words and bring them back while others think those are "new" words/phrases.

I just don't get how leaks for Smash can ruin anything since the game is all about playing it.
True experiencing for yourself is one thing I suppose but I guess it's just not how I see it.
Spoiling SSE made sense to me, spoiling characters and features doesn't.

Wait what happened? Lots of pages to look through.

Leaks could be here at any moment, he wants to keep himself from being spoiled, so he's out before people post spoiler pics/gifs.

Spoilers just mean something that spoil the SURPRISE, not just the story. Some people want to be surprised by content in smash bros, surprised by the intro (is it just a rehash of the newcomer trailers, or is it a melee-style intro?), stages, roster, trophies, modes, bosses, etc. I don't blame him.

wow, looks like someone's pretzel-y

(new phrase I invented for when you're not only salty, but twisting yourself in knots over something trivial, thus becoming like a salted pretzel)

((on the bright side, you now go really well with mustard))

(((on the downside, mustard stains are a bitch)))

((((oh god, the walls, closing in))))

((((((*squish*))))))

Salty rant over salt.

The term originated a long time ago (like in the 30s or so), but recently, it really took off in the fighting game community and since then has spread into the gaming community as a whole - a lot of people on GAF, and especially in any fighting game GAF community, are also parts of the FGC, or watch streams related to those.

Essentially, it's being mad or angry over something, typically a loss, and it comes from the facial expression some people have over being angry, which looks like they ate something salty.

The term has been used very frequently by the FGC and its stream commentators and famous players, as well as stream monsters, and it only got that much more popular with the creation of the site Salty Bets.

Hope this helps you understand the term.

Well, if they are different enough
lol
it can work :p

Not in the demo, I think. But Sakurai already confirmed every character will have 8 colors.

I wonder if all characters will have special alts, like SS Link or
America
golf Mario
I asked because Kirby has his white alt in that image from twitter, he didn't have that color at E3. So I thought Pit might have some new colors in this demo.

I guess it's just a case of us having been spoiled this far already.
I mean are we really expecting something that big that we haven't seen at this point?

Yeah, I need to face it already :/
I'm glad I don't give a damn about Wolf, Lucas, and Snake or I would be really pissed.

I lost Wolf and Snake, but I already accepted Snake's exclusion for long time but Wolf really sting because he's not like Fox or Falco. Yeah, I really like my unstable feral character. However I already face the music. I already moved on and actively looking forward to embrace my new mains.

I'm actually hoping Lucas and Wolf aren't alts. They are unique enough that I'd rather have hope for them as DLC than lose their movesets if they become alts.

Perhaps, who know. It's plausible that we might not get DLC characters at all.

Yeah, I'm guilty with that but I'm pretty sure there are a lot of people are aware of the leaks
It was hard to really help it with this one, since it started out as a potential fake, everyone was kinda exposed to it (that frequents these speculation threads).

When I first heard it, it seemed like a very natural expression. From the context it was immediately obvious what it meant, and somehow made intuitive sense (even though I feel like literal saltiness and anger aren't all that related. I guess maybe it draws from the idea of tears?) But anyway, seems really normal to me. It's also really common in the Smash community and FGC (the former probably a result of the latter).

Still, I know exactly what you mean. I've felt the same way about some of the little acronyms thrown about on here lately. VODs, smh, til, and a bunch of others. It's kind of annoying to see new jargon popup out of no where without knowing about it and not understanding why people would use it. I don't think I'm out of touch though, surely it's the children that are wrong.

Not sure if this was posted yet but apparently Nintendo's France branch is reaching out to the competitive community for events: http://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/2fk6wy/nintendo_france_got_in_touch_with_ssb4com_admin/

Pretty... interesting and cool, honestly.
Wasn't there supposed to be an event at Gamescom that didn't happen? Or maybe it was fake or not publicized when it happened.

It's completely understandable why you would find the word salty so annoying, but it really is just a term used slightly endearingly here. If you look at previous OT's, the word isn't persistent, but rather comes and goes in waves. Ironically though, your post makes 2 uses of inb4, which could be someone else's peeve, so you're likely salting someone by using it =p

I hate inb4. But it's just an internet expression

Why the fuck do you care? If it's the final roster I'll be fine, if it's not then I'll also be fine.

Pardon me for sounding hostile, but you have a way of trying to enforce your perceived hivemind opinion that bothers me.

Leave it alone. Let people think and hope for what they want without cheekily telling everyone what they should think please.

It's a legitimate question haha. If you're believing in more characters to keep your hype going, I want to know what you're going to do for the three weeks we have until the US release (when you'll need it most).

Also, I have no way how that came across as hostile, you're so salty right now lol.

Uhhh... what? Dude, take a breath, go make yourself some tea, have a cookie or something and then come back.

You can't possibly be invested enough in this game to have that kind of reaction, and if so, you should revise your priorities. Come on. We're all friendly here.

GUYS IS IT RIDICULOUS TO THINK FOR GLORY WILL BE PROJECT M 2.0?

Serious question....

Depends on what you mean by Project M 2.0.

If you mean changing the gameplay and readding mechanics from previous entries to make the game a more competitive experience, then no.

If you mean by using only tame, balanced competitive stages... then still no, because Final Destination is far from the best competitive stage.

The weirdest one I've ever seen is the Indian Purple Frog.
It has a person face.
