Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

Just trying to spice things up, man.
*looks in pantry*

Yeah, well, I... uh, paprika... and, uh... Dang. We have arrived at Wit's End.

I saw a picture today that reminded me of Beelzebufo

I want it to be his new avatar.
I second this. Beelzebufo, you now have to change your avatar according to the rules of Neiteiocracy.*

Honesly, I'm find if the Gematsu leak is all we're getting. I just wish it was Lucina instead of Chrom. Ugh, another blue haired swordsman. :(

Edit: Oooookay...can we stop with the creepy picture? 0_O

Just make an avatar bet with him?

Well, SmashGAF, I bid you farewell.

Bye, Sah! We'll miss you!

I grew up with that word where I'm from and have only used it once in all of these smash threads (I think). Just have to accept that everyone is different and have different upbringings and move on. The internet just tends to revive old words and bring them back while others think those are "new" words/phrases.

Language is a funny thing because it can be really isolated and regional. I don't know if anybody remembers, but there was a thread earlier this year where an OP described his XB1 turning on as "cutting on." The whole thread derailed immediately into ridiculing him for this phrase and dissecting how its use in this manner is nonsensical. Eventually it became clear it's a common regional phrase in parts of the American South.

People talk on the internet with the linguistic scope they grew up with. But the internet is global and terms are not universally used, even if they can be easily understood contextually. While you've grown up with the word, GAF was the first place I ever heard it.

wow, looks like someone's pretzel-y

Don't eat me. You can't eat me.

The term originated a long time ago (like in the 30s or so), but recently, it really took off in the fighting game community and since then has spread into the gaming community as a whole - a lot of people on GAF, and especially in any fighting game GAF community, are also parts of the FGC, or watch streams related to those.

Essentially, it's being mad or angry over something, typically a loss, and it comes from the facial expression some people have over being angry, which looks like they ate something salty.

The term has been used very frequently by the FGC and its stream commentators and famous players, as well as stream monsters, and it only got that much more popular with the creation of the site Salty Bets.

Hope this helps you understand the term.

That was actually really informative, so thank you very much. I didn't know what sparked the phrase to proliferate as it has and having this understanding makes me feel less like a time-traveling idiot.

When I first heard it, it seemed like a very natural expression. From the context it was immediately obvious what it meant, and somehow made intuitive sense (even though I feel like literal saltiness and anger aren't all that related. I guess maybe it draws from the idea of tears?) But anyway, seems really normal to me. It's also really common in the Smash community and FGC (the former probably a result of the latter).

Still, I know exactly what you mean. I've felt the same way about some of the little acronyms thrown about on here lately. VODs, smh, til, and a bunch of others. It's kind of annoying to see new jargon popup out of no where without knowing about it and not understanding why people would use it. I don't think I'm out of touch though, surely it's the children that are wrong.

It's popularity in the Smash community is part of what threw me. While I understood what the phrase meant, because it's contextually apparent, I've always considered myself part of Smash community. I was a heavy into Nsider, grew up on GameFAQs, have held Smashboards accounts since I first got a family computer, etc. Suddenly, everyone is using a term I don't. Like, why wasn't I aware? Did I miss a memo?

You seem a bit peppered about all this.

I want to die.

I loved that episode :3
It was so fetch :D

Fetch is never going to happen.

It's completely understandable why you would find the word salty so annoying, but it really is just a term used slightly endearingly here. If you look at previous OT's, the word isn't persistent, but rather comes and goes in waves. Ironically though, your post makes 2 uses of inb4, which could be someone else's peeve, so you're likely salting someone by using it =p

I hate inb4. But it's just an internet expression

It has come full circle. My overuse of a popular internet phrase has been revealed as abrasive to others. You have shown me a dark, dark mirror and the reflection is twisted.

It's a legitimate question haha. If you're believing in more characters to keep your hype going, I want to know what you're going to do for the three weeks we have until the US release (when you'll need it most).

Also, I have no way how that came across as hostile, you're so salty right now lol.

If it's a legitimate question, then I'll keep hoping for DLC.

I just recall you preaching Gematsu's holy unwavering truth back in the day and interrogating people who had doubts about it. Which got on my nerves. And if you were legitimately asking that question I'm sorry.

Uhhh... what? Dude, take a breath, go make yourself some tea, have a cookie or something and then come back.

You can't possibly be invested enough in this game to have that kind of reaction, and if so, you should revise your priorities. Come on. We're all friendly here.

I do like to take part in discussion here, and when people stand in the way of that it does irk me, which is why I lashed out like that. This particular poster (and some others) have a way of spreading this "what we think is absolutely true no sense in discussing anything else" that rubs me the wrong way . Like I said, it happened a lot in the day of Gematsu and it makes discussion nothing more than people suggesting things and the posters who subscribe to leak gospel put those ideas down and stifle discussion.

It bothers me. And again, if the question was genuine I apologize. But I just don't take kindly to "don't resist the roster is final and if you think otherwise you're in denial lol" shit.

Again, I'm assuming someone will somehow hack the cart and pull all the data or something? Or do we think that we'll have to wait until they unlock all chars?

What's going to happen.

Were going to have more reps. But there won't be one for Rhythm Heaven.
To be fair, the Gematsu leak is still 9 for 11. Chrom was initially planned, & they were right about Lucas being cut. If not the base roster, I'm sure the RH rep will be DLC.

With Smash and its habit of releasing earlier in different regions, ever since Brawl I've basically accepted the fact that I'll be spoiled on everything before I get the game, and thus I feed off the spoilers :D I'll be watching Twitch streams from the moment the game launches in Japan.

It's literally the one game where I want to know everything about it before I get my hands on it.

Alternatively, the Chorus Men were planned, like Chrom, but then technical difficulties may have cut them (and the Ice Climbers), but Sakurai retained their Smash Run enemies

What's up SmashGAF? We're very close to release now. It's crazy...over a year and a half has passed since Smash 3DS/Wii U's announcement and now we're closing in on the japanese release in a week!

It's been fun speculating and gathering in discussion with you all. Can't wait to see what's discovered in the JP versions while we wait just a little while longer for 3DS to come here in the US.

What have I missed recently in here?

Oh, cool! I know the family from that one YouTube video, but I've never seen this species before. I might have to change later, he's kinda cute!

EDIT: Actually, there's a lot of good ones if you google "Breviceps" haha

Haha had no idea you actually like frogs. All this time I assumed you lost an avatar bet.

Yeah you're not wrong about that. But just like how I had to learn about all of these anagrams like rofl and lttp (which I've only seen on GAF) we adapt to the environment we're in. And like people said salty has been around for a while on the internet especially fighting communities. But that's my last pitch in about the word.

OT: Has charizard's alts been revealed? I wonder if its going to be something more interesting than a lighter/darker shading of orange/red.

Guess it depends on what the idea was for the RH rep.
Since I remember speculation was saying that more than likely they ran into a Ice Climbers issue as well since perhaps he wanted multiple. Though then it turns into why not just use Marshal.

Honestly, I'm thankful that the only thing I don't want to have ruined is trophy data. I find those very fun to discover. I might even spoil myself of the final roster (if it hasn't already been) just to relieve the stress of "will they won't they".

Also I hope that we have a lot of clones yet. Semi-clones and animation clones alike.

The only thing is a pic of someone's 3DS on the pause screen during a game. Other than that HYPE.

See that's the thing I love about Smash. Even if I know everything about the characters and modes and whatnot I'm sure there will be things that surprise me and make me smile like trophies and whatnot when I finally get my hands on the game.

Plus I can't read Japanese so it's not like I'll miss out on trophy descriptions by watching a stream, lol.
