Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

Of all the character reveal trailers, I keep watching Shulk's. He's almost a more wtf character than Pac-man

I used to think Greninja's was the best for hype, but watching Little Mac's again, that's the real hype trailer.

There's something about Little Mac in a training montage with that music that brings the hype.

It's weird, because logically there is a lot stacked against Shulk being playable in Smash. But I think most people, even before the second leak from Sal Romano's contact, were anticipating his inclusion. Once we heard in that leak that Shulk was coming, it didn't seem like many people were shocked.

Of course, there were some... Notable skeptics.

I love watching Little Mac's for the hype. Rosalina's is my fave but it doesn't have much rewatchability.

I usually pick my "main" just through use. I play all the characters through the single player game and in multiplayer I use the one or few that I liked using the best. Then moving forward you just get better with exposure.

It comes down to using the character(s) you want to main more often than the others, then? I can do that pretty easily. Aren't there other things you have to practice, though? Advanced techniques and the like? From what I've seen Brawl is not well-liked in tournament circles so maybe practicing specific techniques isn't really a thing in Smash Bros.

In Melee and Brawl I was always best with Mario and Luigi even though I didn't really play them more than the other characters. I think I would want to branch out to a new character if I'm going to main someone this time around, though. Villager looks like he's shaping up to be a fun character to play as.

Looks like it is "Dedeburst" now.. But there is no footage/pics of it

Wait, what? I've been awaiting Dedede's final smash for a while now. I don't know what "Dedeburst" would be but I would guess (and hope) that it's the missile attack that Masked Dedede shoots from his hammer. Hopefully he gets the mask and music for the attack!

spill the beans ash.........
You know he can't do that.

I kinda think we, at least, shouldn't start over-analyzing GameExplain vids. I'd really rather not pressure Ash out of the thread. Reddit can over-analyze as much as they damn well see fit, of course; Ash isn't posting there as far as I know. He is posting here, though, so let's try to be better than that.

There is a pic of it, it's Dedede kicking a barrel with a bomb coming out of it. I think it's a scan, wasn't sure if it was real as I didn't know he got a new final smash.

I'm confused by Dedede's Final Smash. The picture shows him firing a bomb out of his hammer, but the text reads, "inhale your opponents and continuously attack them with your hammer." What's going on?

You don't need to be a competitive tournament player to have a main. Having a main doesn't mean knowing all their frame-perfect inputs and stage advantages. Having a main, in the broadest definition, is just your go-to character for multiplayer. Sometimes that means they're just your favorite. Sometimes that means you commit your life to studying their handling and combo potential to try to win tournaments.

I don't play like you, or know people who do, but I would say that you don't have a main. Just being better using Mario or Luigi doesn't mean you main them. I guess the best definition of a main is your best character with the highest frequency of use.

The way you play means you don't have a character who champions both of those categories. Which is cool, because nobody says you need a main anyway.

At least, you are only one that still love him. That's better than nothing right?

I really liked him though:

Look how good he looks now!

Ash said that he read it a few pages back but I'm not seeing it.

Come on now. You gotta provide some context if you're gonna post stuff like this.

Wait wait wait....a list leaked that details the unlock methods? I'm not seeing it.

Is this true?

Hidden Characters:
Bowser Jr. (win 10 smash run battles as Bowser, or 700 vs matches)

Jigglypuff (Win your first smash run, or play 20 vs matches)
Duck Hunt (Clear classic mode with all starting characters, or play 1,000 vs matches)

Dark Pit (unlock all the stages and defeat all the stage bosses, or play 900 vs matches)
Lucina (Slay 100 Mii's as Marth, or play 400 VS matches)

Was posted on GameFAQS last week, I think I recall seeing someone mention it, but didn't pay it much thought. Seems pretty realistic beyond the extreme requirements when it comes to VS Matches.

If it is true, who are you gonna go for first? Who looks the hardest to unlock?

Here!

Dunno where this came from, but that is one tiny Andross.

Best new star fox rep. Take that 'Ridley is too big,' Andross is too small!

Huh...Duck hunt has the 1000 matches alternate requirement like game and watch in melee. Neat if true.

Thanks for the explanation! I think I was under the impression that maining implies a higher level of mastery than it really does. I will probably end up playing fewer characters in the new game if for no other reason than the roster being so much larger this time around, and because a couple of my friends mostly play as one or two characters and it just seems more fun to play against them when they really get into the swing of their characters and become tougher to beat. Although I feel sorry for my friend who mainly played Mewtwo in Melee and then got into playing Wolf in Brawl... he joked that he's going to play as Mario this time around so that they will be forced to take him out of the next game if they want to spite him. :P

It blows my mind we're mere days from knowing the entire roster of the next Smash Bros. So Close.

Replying to a past from 10 pages back...

But it's the same theme... :S

Yeah, I realize that, but the jazzy rendition of SM3DW main theme resonates with me far better. I grew to like the theme, but the version that's used in the credits is on a completely another level for me.

Wait is it confirmed that the demo stations have the final build?.

It's a demo of the retail release, so yes. Pretty much like every standard demo unit for any other game that would be on display in a Gamestop or a Target -- meaning it'll have a limited roster of characters but the gameplay is of the retail release, not the E3 one.
