Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

While the vast majority of moves seems to have little to no landing lag according to the guy who gave us all of today's info. And why should a high reward move like the knee have no risk?

See the knee is like in Brawl. It must be like in Brawl!

Yeah, I just woke up and got to his AMA post after seeing and posting about the GIF.

As mentioned, it hopefully won't be a problem. I just don't know that it was necessary to actually increase the landing lag associated with some moves that already suffered from relatively high lag.

We'll see.

Hmm I think the risk issue is wether or not it has brawl somewhat harder to land sweet spot.

Wow. This is worse than Brawl. We'll have to see if this turns out to be an issue. Definitely doesn't look good.

What kills me though is the "feedback" requested by NoA, which was clearly a PR stunt. Landing lag was undoubtedly the #1 issue people had with the game back at E3. Yet, here we are, with aerial landing lag that has actually been increased for many moves.

It's almost like

A) Recovery on moves has been used as a balancing technique in like EVERY other fighting game ever made. It's an issue if there's a lot of it on the majority/all of moves for any particular character. On a few of the very powerful moves per character? Not so much.

B) Just because a developer takes and asks for feedback doesn't mean they have to agree with and implement that feedback. You know how feedback works right? It's fine to wish they had changed thing X but them not doing so doesn't equal = "hurr durr PR stunt"

I said this many times, but I really love Smash Bros. Fans

Possibly hours of analyzing footage just to find that Ridley is a boss with a grab attack that doesn't cause your character the flinch whilst damage is taken.

Dash dancing, like wave dashing, interrupted the normal flow of gameplay and paved the way for a lot of broken shit which ruined Melee TO ME.

EXACTLY THIS. I'm glad I'm not alone! You perfectly nailed one of the biggest reasons I don't like or miss dash dancing. It's not even about Melee vs. Brawl on a macro level, it's about dash dancing itself and how dumb/disruptive it looks and is. (Again, to me.) Anyway, I just wanted to let you know I'm right there with you! As I said to Joelnky above, though, I don't want to keep discussing this because I don't want things to get derailed when there's literally so much else we're all learning about right now that we can discuss and be excited about!
I have to agree with others in that I get and respect the purpose of dash dancing (footsies are nothing new to fighting games) but it looks STUPID. It's the type of "mechanic" that either should be further and naturally implemented in the game (I'm not sure how you'd do that in the context of Smash since you need to be able to switch directions unlike other fighting games but someone smarter than I can figure that out) or removed.

It reminds me a lot of the "bobbin n' weavin" you see going on in a lot of high level Tekken (Tekken 6 at least) matches. It looks alien.
Wow, this is crazy to me. I have to respect the opinions, but I had no idea anyone thought like this. I honestly can't fathom why either...

Especially the 'interrupting flow' part. It practically creates the flow sometimes.

It's like someone telling me they don't like cake or pizza because of the taste. I can't say you're wrong since it's a matter of taste, but the idea of it is foreign and confusing to me.

*shrug*

Charizard's new forward B in that video looks so good.

Going to the demo event tomorrow in Chiba! If you want anything answered, let me know! (Nothing too technical)
If possible can you check if Charizard has a black colour costumes with red wings please?

Funny thing is that the video that deconfirms landing lag pretty much is on the Pac-Man demo, the one shown in closed doors Smash conference in E3. Granted it wasn't from the playable E3 builds, but one wonders if the "landing lag" really is just players not performing attacks to cancel lag.

Even though the knee looked really laggy, that same video showed us Falcon being really fast, and the nair and bair seeming to end near instantly (maybe autocanceled).

C. Falcon might be ok. At least I hope.

The knee being so risky is a shame though. This isn't even 'wahhh, the game could be better without lag', it's more like... I wish that particular move had less lag because it's one of Cap's better kill options, and I'm kinda hoping he's broken good. <.<

I don't think it should matter that much. Even if it had no lag, you wouldn't want to throw it out all the time anyway, because of knockback reduction.

Yea, it's the exact same aerial cancels in brawl. I see people clamoring that this is news, but Falcon has had those auto cancels for awhile.

Yup! He has 4 skins of Alph, and 4 of Olimar, totaling 8 alternate costumes

Confirmed by the guy doing the AMA

Now could someone find the leak that first predicted this? We may find more stuff there.

So uh...who is Shulk exactly?

EDIT: Guys I found Google, don't worry about it.

Seems like a cool edition for fans of the series, and I know there are many. Bit underwhelmed by all the Fire Emblem characters though

Looking at the original post on the new thread with all the demo impressions.

Oh, so no pajamas then. Bummer.

Wait, that's only six. What are the other two?

So maybe pajamas.

What is going on?
Zipzo said it was hard to remember all the costumes since he/she couldn't sit on the Internet while playing. If there's a negative like that though, I think it's as good as confirmation. The other costumes may have been forgettable, but going out of the way to say 'no' makes it seem pretty certain.

Honestly I was hoping there would be less colors in this demo so that we'd have an indication of unlockable costumes and palette swaps. From the sound of it they'll be up front. Unlockables are still a possibility though, if this game runs deeper than I think it does.

I'm also really surprised to hear that Mac's wireframe got its own 8 colors. I thought it'd be the hoodie.

No all the time, but after a certain point raw knees can sometimes just work. And if there's no risk...

Ah, thanks for the correction! I was half expecting that might be the case. I didn't play much Falcon in Brawl though, since he didn't really stand up to the others.

Sounds like not much has changed for him directly them... hopefully the general game changes have benefitted him somehow.

One's a very simple clone we essentially got as a bonus & Robin's the first non-cliche swordsman FE character we've ever gotten in Smash.

I don't see the issue.

I know... As an avid Ridley supporter, unfortunately, a character known for grabbing things would probably also grab people as a boss. I mean, I want him to be right soooooo bad, but really, all he confirmed is that Ridley grabs Pikachu. If it was, say, Metal Face, that might be telling, but I think he has a grab attack in every game he's in but the original and Prime 1.

Wait, what? Little Mac has sixteen different colors then?

I think someone said that Mac has eight color swaps and his wireframe mode has eight colors, one of them being the pink hoodie. Why on earth you would give a wireframe different colors I have no idea. Are people begging to play blue wireframe Mac? Everyone online will probably be pink hoodie, America Mac, or the rumored camo Mac.

And if Little Mac has 16 outfits, imagine how many Pit is going to have. And Dark Pit. And Palutena. There could be 50 Kid Icarus alts for all we know.

From what I remember reading (either from Zipzo on Smashboards, him through the mods, or in the Reddit summary, can't recall) that's exactly right. Even how it was said "Little Mac has 16 costumes".

I can't find the post right now.

One of the first questions he answers here mentions it though: http://smashboards.com/threads/sorr...ayed-the-release-build-of-smash-4-ama.366574/

Were any of them the sweatsuit?
Still, that's some bullshit right there.
This time, though, all characters have eight colors to choose from!
I know, it could mean at least eight but come on! How come Little Mac gets sixteen spread out amongst two models, but Olimar/Alph, WFT, Villager, and Robin only get eight total?

I wouldn't mind PJ Link even if it meant wearing a pale blue hat. I know some people will start tweeting #HATGATE if it were a basic recolour, but I don't really care.

That's what I was expecting the moment I saw the Skyward Sword skin. I would still use it most anyway.

I am, and I'm still pissed about it. It's already Smash 4, not 64 or Melee. Fuck anime references outside of the voice.
Not terribly concerned about the representation of Pokemon beyond getting Mewtwo back, but what's the problem with having anime references in the game? It's a huge part of the franchise and obviously helps influence the popularity of certain characters.

This one...

-Snake, Lucas, Ice Climbers (Why), and Wolf are cut
-Doctor Mario is back as a clone
-Dark Pit is a newcomer as a clone
-Each character gets 8 alternate costumes, whether they be pallet swaps or new costumes.
-Alph appears as 4 of Olimar’s costumes, while the other 4 are Olimar’s.
-Shulk will be playable with Gaur Plains as his stage, his neutral B changes his Monado mode which essentially makes him dish more damage and take more, or do less damage, and take less.
-Bowser Jr appears as a new comer and allegedly fights from a mario kart… has no alt colors, but instead has the 7 koopalings as alts.
-Duck Hunt is in… from what I’ve been told it’s the duck hunt dog fighting with ducks on his back who assist for certain attacks…

*Edit more info
-Shulk has like 5 different mode swaps
-Bowser Jr rides in a koopa kart that attacks with cannon balls and boxing gloves and stuff that eject from the clowns mouth.

So Link gets colors based on his Skyward Sword starting outfit along with Fierce Deity Link alternate colors, but Toon Link gets no pajamas?

I'm about as salty as the water of the Great Sea.

Olimar not only has Alph in 4 of his costumes, but the name changes to Alph and the commentator says Alph. All info from the Smashboards AMA

http://smashboards.com/threads/sorr...he-release-build-of-smash-4-ama.366574/page-6

Also, fierce deity Link is like Skyward Sword Link, just a recolor, so I'm sure it will look weird...
Programmer: What should we do with Mac?
Sakurai: Mac needs at least sixteen costumes with a wide array of palette swaps with different texture designs, as well as completely new models for some of his outfits.
Programmer: Ok, and Link?
Sakurai: Just slap some white shit over him.
Wait

Wire Frame Mac has a Hoodie costume?

No, no, no. There will apparently be eight tank n' trunks Mac costumes (black and green, AMERICA, Yellow, something with a white tanktop, maybe a camo one but I'm not sure if that's fake) etc.

There will also be eight wireframe costumes. One of these costumes is the pink hoodie Mac. This is not a hoodie wireframe, it's just grouped in with the wireframe section. Think Wario in Brawl.

It was understandable during 64 and Melee since Gen 1 and 2 were in GB and there wasn't much to pull from the games so anime references were fine (if not bad for perpetuating the anime == game concept). Come Brawl though, it has Gens 3 and 4 which had much stuff to pull from their games. Brawl got it because there wasn't much anime references outside of voices. All Pokemon references are from the games.

It's me being very nitpicky. Charizard doesn't even learn Seismic Toss for a long time from what I gathered.
