Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

Guys, I'm getting so hyped for the Wii U version but have no hype whatsoever for the 3DS version. I guess most people here will be getting both versions? Which version are you the most excited for? Personally I just can't see myself playing a game like this on a handheld; I just feel like it'll be inferior in most ways and that it'll ruin my hype for the real deal. Smash Run seems to be the big thing about the 3DS version and I'm not sure how long it takes before that mode might get repetitive. Meanwhile the Wii U version looks so glorious.

I think while it may be inferior in terms of graphics, controls, and level selection, it's still Smash Bros. at its core and it's a very content heavy 3DS game.

That said, this would only be the second or third time I'd be purchasing two versions of the same game if I choose to do so, it's very rare for me for obvious reasons. The online is the deal-breaker for me with the 3DS version. If it turns out bad, then I will probably skip it and wait for the Wii U version. I know Sakurai did good with KI:U, but god damn was Brawl a disappointment for me because of the terrible online.

Glad Fierce Deity Link alt is confirmed now. Looks like he's just using the Master Sword and Hylian Shield, which might look a bit odd on him but whatever, changing that would be too messy. Any other big news recently?

Is Gaur Plains in the demo?

If so how does the stage work? And what music does it have?
Speaking of Xenoblade (and I'll be vague here), I just rescued an Alcamoth man from some lizard-people on the Eryth Sea. Next time I play, I'll head back to the palace. I glanced at the Table of Contents in a FAQ for the game, and it appears I'm halfway through... which means this will be at least a 60+ hour game, at this rate.

I'd probably be even farther along if I wasn't being so thorough, talking to everyone in every area during the day and the night. The NPC dialogue is so good, and really adds to the lore of the world. Right now, it seems like conspiracy is afoot in the emperor's court...

I continue to be absolutely floored by how gorgeous this game looks, and I'm playing it on a WiiU, not Dolphin. And the characters, the writing, the voice acting, all top-notch. And the combat system with the cool-down, the purge/break/topple/daze, the future sight, etc., is simply the best I've seen in a game of this sort. And the gameplay loop of multitasking quests, charting new landmarks, leveling up arts, crafting gems, equipping new weapons and armors, deepening affinity, linking skills on the skill tree, rebuilding Colony 6... It's all so addictive.

I think by the time I'm done with Xenoblade Chronicles, I think I'll feel this is the Wii's best game.

Well, if Ridley WAS an aerial character, he would grab them midair.

It's almost as if the developers could rig characters any way they want for a trailer or screenshots. Unless you think the PotDs were just Sakurai playing and pausing over and over again for the right moment.

Evidence of Ridley's playability? Grabbing Pikachu like a normal character?

Cause normal characters grab eachother in midair.

Anyway, damage effects don't cast a shadow so for all we know he is being attacked & it's just not visible.

Oh man, who to believe? Neorice and Sah, you guys got me legit shook. I don't know what to believe anymore.

Ridley is in. He is unlocked by defeating Mewtwo with Samus.

Is this an actual post?

I've never understood people who thought it looked ugly on a base Wii. The game is gorgeous at any resolution.

It was also easily my favorite JRPG in nearly 20 years when it came out and I spent 120 hours on both the European and US releases.

Also I gotta blame you that would be tits man for linking the HD cutscenes. I've spent at least three hours watching them when I had other stuff to do.

Good progress. You're about 35%-40% from the game.

Hopefully custom moves being used in tournaments means people will stop saying there isn't as much difference between games as the last two times, or that it's just Brawl in HD.

Custom Moves add such a huge amount to strategy and counterpicking. I really hope they're not banned.

No Kirby impressions yet ? I read that he and Pit got heavily buffed a while ago

^_^

She has an Impa-inspired(?) palette: white-ish with a red scarf and blue details.

• Sheik
Needles close to the ground had lots of lag, but maybe I did it wrong? I dunno, but it seems like they might have changed it. Grenade didn't seem to have much pull. It's also weird because the vortex seems to begin just as the him explodes. FAir is still pretty weak, but it got decent knockback once the opponent had enough damage. Don't remember all the colors but a few seemed similar to Zelda's(?).

• Unova Pokemon League music: 1) N's Castle Medley, 2) Battle! VS Reshiram/Zekrom (actually a medley featuring the Dragon Tower music!)
• Kirby just gets the Monado when he swallows Shulk
• Kirby makes that adorable whirring noise when he uses Inhale :3
• Kirby's Hammer can be charged from the air, and it's really easy to turn around on the ground while charging
• with the Monado, you press B to call up an art, then press B however many times while it's still lit up to cycle through the arts. A little cumbersome, IMO.

The entire argument is based on Ridley doing something we haven't seen bosses do.

Last I checked, characters don't do that either.

(I'm not counting other M or whatever mods you throw at me.)

Then how does size deconfirm Ridley? Why is that ever an argument?

Sakurai is talking about the characters size relative to the area, not necessarily each other. People argue that Ridley is canonically much bigger than Samus in every iteration, and Samus herself is one of the biggest Smash characters. Shrinking him down to size would be difficult, especially considering how lanky he is.

RIDLEY AINT GONNA BE A PLAYABLE CHARACTER MOVE ON

I'm pretty sure it's more of a joke at this point. Some people might find the idea of a giant alien dragon monster thing being scaled down to the same size as Samus a bit weird. Ridley being way smaller wouldn't look right IMO.

Evidence of Ridley's playability? Grabbing Pikachu like a normal character?

Hmm, that was pretty concvincing.
The only problems I have is 1. he grabbed Pikachu in the air, which would be more like a stage hazard thing to do than a playable character.
And 2. Ridley's shadow was a lot bigger than Pikachu, like really big.

I dunno, I want to believe and I wouldn't surprise if he's a playable stage boss on the Wii U tying in with the rumour, but I've prepared myself for nothing more than a stage hazard and anything more is a bonus.

And for the record I think that the 48 character ERSB leak we saw was the full roster with anything more being DLC

Zipzo is going to do another AMA in a few hours. Pixel King I hope you are pixeling because we expect all alt costumes as avatars by launch.

Did you...

did you just say Wolf plays like Fox in a shallow level? BECAUSE OF A FUCKING LANDMASTER? The fact that you ignored Wolf's and Fox's differences, ASSUMED they played the same even though their A and B moves are radically different, yet you defend Ryu and Ken...

SCREW YOU.

You seem to be a driveby poster even.

Joking, Wolf is the least clonest in Smash but it's clearly because Sakurai know that fan will not handle the fact that the two other Starfox are just tweaked Fox.
They not play the same Fox/Falco difference are huge with Wolf BTW.

SHOCKING EVIDENCE RIDLEY MAY BE PLAYABLE!!! Pay Attention to What You're Gonna See! - 9/5/2014

This assumes that stage hazard bosses are the same as other Smash bosses. The only stage bosses (at the time of that trailer) we had seen was yellow devil, who as a stage hazard is much less active than the more traditional bosses. Ridley the boss hazard to be more of a nuisance i.e. just grabbing you allowing for others to attack you vs being an obstacle (Brawl) is not out of the question.

I'd give the honor to least cloney to Luigi. Different Final Smash, most of his moves are different too yet similar enough to be a clone in some people's minds.
