Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

I'd go Geno, Ridley, Krystal.

Geno versus Ridley is a close one but I give the nod to Geno because fans of him are almost entirely 100% serious (and crazy but that's not relevant here) while a ton of people who "support" Ridley on this board I can guarantee are not serious and just want to see the world burn, possibly grabbed and slammed against the wall.

Krystal Fans are crazy like Geno fans but far less numerous because she's only in shitty Star Fox games. Plus they gave up far sooner.
You're making a stupid comparison in the first place. Geno fans were fucking nuts. Nothing is comparable to them. We're talking about a massive fanbase that wrote petitions for a third party character from a single 1996 SNES game.

Newcomer nomination coming soon! Remember, this will be the last unranked newcomer. After this one, I'll be sharing the top 5. Because of a previous skipped day, rank 5 will be shared later today!

Waitwaitwaitwaitwait

So Marth got "nerfed" via, system changes and changes to his overall reach and he STILL winds up godlike? (The idea of him being better than Brawl's Marth is so intriguing given all the complaints that were coming out of Zipso through the weekend.)

All hail the one true Hero King.
Imitators need not apply; haters are invited to continue hating

Also, when did Oric post the last veteran reveal? I missed it. Marth at 6th is surprising, but not at the same time.

According to people here, Ben's information is fake.

Goiz, I found out the final five from a top secret government leak!

Yeah, that's false. That'd make Ridley the Final Six (and RIP random select).

But he was in Superstar Saga too!!!

!!!!!!!

Ridley for Wii U/3DS or Geno/Krystal for Brawl, which fanbase was more annoying.

Ridley seems so bad because it's current but people could not stop talking about Geno after Megaman discussion was banned. Krystal is a distant but strong third.

Geno, Ridley, then Krystal. Geno fans are only worse than Ridley folk because they were abrasive as FUCK back in the day. That and Ridley fans had an entire 13 year period to mellow out and be tuned out in the case of more extreme fans. Krystal never registered as an issue in my circles so I guess I'm lucky.

I kinda think that K. Rool's the new Geno though in terms of inheriting the most brazen and loud support group.

At least it was a Mario game (and a very good one, at that,) and not some weird one-off or a minor franchise. Granted, that's not much of a defense, but the fact that Geno's a character from Nintendo's flagship franchise is worth something.

The end of the Geno for Brawl thread was something. People actually thought he was a shoe-in and then the meltdowns started.

The final post in that thread is legendary. neva 4get.

Ugh. I always hated the excuse.

Geno is such a niche character, and the worst part being Nintendo doesn't even own him! Rosalina fits Geno's spot much nicer.

If we ever get something on the lines of SMRPG2, I hope she replaces him. I could see your party being the cast of 3DWorld.

Almost definitely. Ridley has some vocal supporters and more than a few crazies, but K. Rool's proponents are the really really scary ones this time around.

Would Master Hand have trouble with KI:U's controls? :p

Also, why would anyone think Geno would be in Smash? He's completely irrelevant now. I wasn't really around for all the Brawl Hype BTW.

The weird thing is that Ridley's fanbase didn't really grow between Brawl and Smash 4; it's just that every other major fanbase shrank or saw their character in Smash.

Megaman got confirmed right away, and was mentioned by Sakurai in an interview, which is notable because just about every character Sakurai mentions that isn't clearly a joke gets in a Smash game at some point. Plus, he had a retro revival since the last Smash. If he wasn't in, people would be talking about him as much as if not more than they were with Ridley.
Star Fox had one game, a remake, in between this Smash and the last one. Krystal hasn't seen a game since before Brawl. Plus, Palutena in Uprising fills most of the niches Krystal does (female magic staff user).
Geno hasn't appeared in a game since before Brawl either.
Ridley's appeared in a game plus a compilation since Brawl, and had a game right around Brawl's release too. And despite having not been a player character, he's had arguably the biggest role of any non playable, non original character in the Smash series, having appeared in the background of a 64 stage, Melee's opening cutscene, twice as a boss in the SSE (plus planned as an Assist Trophy, possibly, as there is data on the Brawl disc hinting at this), and either as a stage boss or a player character in Smash 4. Unlike the others, even if he isn't playable, he's been far from treated badly by Sakurai.

K. Rool and his dumb googly eyes has been making his way up the charts. Probably a strong 4. It's weird because he wasn't even in the conversation back in the Brawl days! DKC gets a resurgence without him though and suddenly he's a big missed opportunity.

I just realized that the next Smash Bros. will probably come out in 2021. It's crazy if you think about it.

I will defend K. Rool in saying he's not as dumb of a suggestion as Geno. K. Rool was the main villian for the DK games up until 2008, that's more than enough reason for people to want him. Despite everyone's recent hatred of the character. Which I don't even understand, he's supposed to be a big ugly gator, guys.

That can't be right. There were a lot more K. Rool supporters back then.

Sorry for the confusion, I meant stuff like turning off up tap to jump, changing button layout.

I completely missed the word button there, sorry. IIRC he mentioned he didn't get a chance to look at that, and that tap jump was bothering him.

K. Rool was totally brought up during the Brawl days, I recall him being among the most requested.

K.Rool was always supported by DKC fans, it's just that at Brawl's time Diddy Kong was obviously much higher priority.

The Geno phenomenon was truly something to behold. Overnight, an insignificant character from a forgotten game was suddenly the greatest character in the history of video games.

I'd love to see a case study on that.

Even though K Rool's fanbase is pretty crazy, he's not as horribly unlikely as Geno. He's appeared in a game since the last Smash, he's appeared in multiple games (I wanna say about 10?), he's been a trophy in the past two smashes, and his troops appear in Smash Run. I wouldn't expect him to be a playable character, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't almost expect him to be a stage boss.

This makes sense. Dixie is also higher priority now.

K. Rool isn't even the best villain in the series since the Retro games came out, plus he's basically always been a Bowser ripoff.

Sponge reminds me of something I can't wait to see happen in Paper Mario proper. Rosalina's characterization in those games. I wonder what kind of off beat or straight up irreverent ideas they'd have for her.

According to people here, Ben's information is fake.

Oh, those impressions were part of his mess of "info"? Cool.

As far back as 2003? People clapped during the first Melee trailer when they saw Ridley
it was clearly for Samus but whatever.
The thirst has been around since before Melee.

Well, later on you can see them clapping for Samus quite heavily (more than anyone else) so it's pretty much just Samus. People project Ridley love onto those viewers, even though it was clearly Metroid love.

I'd argue that Geno being a Mario character actually makes his chances smaller (though he was probably never even considered). Think about it, if Sakurai wants to add another mario character, he'd choose more recognizable, relevant ones that he doesnt' have to go through the hassle for negotiating for. Getting third party chars is a pain, so it's only worth it if the character is big and iconic enough to get tons of people excited. THat basically limits it to main characters of noteworthy third party franchises and pretty much nobody else

No way. K Rool supporters were very vocal pre-Brawl. I'd still say Sonic, Geno, Ridley, Mega Man, and Krystal were like the five no one wouldn't shut up about the most.

Oh my god, yes. Rosalina in any Mario RPG would be fantastic. Could you imagine her being in Paper Mario, hell even Mario & Luigi?

It'd be nice if people just politely accepted some people's hands aren't built for this game, instead of flaunting superiority every time the topic comes up.

I'll vouch for some noticeable discomfort playing KI:U. I am a lefty who loves the game but the 3DS just can't support such a sophisticated input combination without some players experiencing difficulty.

Strangely, though, I find that attempting Lefty mode is so much worse than adapting to the standard controls. Those face buttons are not meant to be used to make rotations.

That said, it's a beautiful game and the pain is worth it.

I don't actually think Ridley will be playable in Smash 4, but I'm not a fan of the way Sakurai has handled the situation either. He made it clear when other characters weren't going to be in the game, but whether he intended to or not, he has been stringing Ridley fans along for ages now. Even if that 'other playable boss characters appear' wasn't him trolling, he must have noticed that it had just made Ridley supporters even more thirsty, and should have shut it down shortly afterwards.

That reminds me... he was so highly requested for Brawl, but I barely heard mention of him for 3DS/Wii U. Why?

I think people have come to accept that, having gotten zero acknowledgment from Nintendo besides an 11-year-old GBA game, and Square having nothing to do with Smash, Geno has a 0% chance of making it in. They have finally reached the end of the Kübler-Ross line.

It was really weird for me because SMRPG is one of my favorite games of all time, so I had always wanted Geno. But, it always was something I knew wouldn't happen, nor did I think anyone would care. Then suddenly, at Brawl's announcement, everyone freaked out over that poll and people were talking about this character I had quietly been obsessed with since I was a kid. It was really bizarre to see Geno be such a big topic.

So we pretty much have every main character from Mario in huge game right now

So what's the future for the Mario series in Smash?

I think maybe Kamek could make for a good character. Not only is it indirectly adding another Yoshi rep, but Kamek has been getting a lot of exposure these days, as Nintendo seems to be phasing out Magikoopa as a generic enemy and focusing more on Kamek as a unique character.

We'd have Bowser, Jr and Kamek. Basically the entire Koopa family, Grandpa (more or less), Father and Son.

He'd also be another magic user and we don't have a lot of them in Smash.

The only thing I'd argue was that it wasn't overnight. Everytime Nintendo teased a Paper Mario or Mario and Luigi game Geno fans would come out of the woodwork like the ghouls they are and would pester everyone how this dumb puppet was the bee's fucking knees when he is an unimportant secondary character in the only game he's playable in. That complaining was enough that he got a cameo in a minigame in Superstar Saga.

K. Rool isn't even the best villain in the series since the Retro games came out, plus he's basically always been a Bowser ripoff.

K. Rool to me is the Godzilla to DK's King Kong. Which is why I feel he's the perfect villian for Donkey Kong. He just needs some tweaking and a bit of redesign by Retro, if you ask me. Lord Fredrick isn't a bad villain at all either, but I hate Tiki Tong with a passion.

Bio
Chibi-Robo is the player character of the Chibi-Robo! series. He is a 10-centimeter-tall robot who spends most of his time running around its owners house helping clean and solve dilemmas the family is dealing with. He is given as a birthday gift to a socially withdrawn, eight year-old named Jenny Sanderson by her father. This is much to the dismay Jenny's mother, a homemaker who is constantly stressed over how much money her husband spends on toys despite his unemployment. Chibi-Robo is packaged with a small "Chibi-House" and an assistant named Telly Vision, who speaks on Chibi-Robo's behalf. Each of the one million Chibi-Robos in the world is supposed to collect "Happy Points" by doing good deeds for their owners, and must occasionally charge their batteries at electrical outlets.

What NeoGAF Says
“Character from a fairly niche but wonderful and weird series. Would be a good left-field pick and has big potential for a moveset.” - SmithnCo

“He's a robot from a fun series. I'd love to see him!” - Beelzebufo

"With a cute and simple character design, a ton of moveset potential to work with, and to represent one of my favorite smaller Nintendo series, Chibi-Robo is my most wanted newcomer and the last guy I really want in the game." - Drago

What do you guys think? Do you think Chibi-Robo could clean up his act enough to join Smash? Or we he just end up being a chore to play as? Let us know below!

Does anyone remember the name of that Smash Bros Brawl site (not the Dojo) that kept updating with all the leaks and daily posts? It had a forum too, but the forum a few years after Brawl just turned into some general video game forum and died.
