If there's anyone too new for Smash, it's the Inklings.
DLC or Smash 5 is where they'll shine, most likely the latter. They're a creation of EAD so they'll show up one way or another.

It would be a great piece of cross-promotion but Roy was a clone. The Inklings are just a tad way too "brand new", kind of like TW101.
It especially sucks because much like TW101, this is probably their only chance to be in Smash. Ever.
At this point they're the one and only reason I really, really want DLC.

Man, I really love Dixie's character model in TF.I wouldn't mind her Final Smash being based around a Guitar.
How can you compare those? Ridley has been in most Metroid games as an awesome boss (He's pretty much Metroid's Ganon) and people wanted him (and believed him in) since melee.
I don't think there is an obssession with K Rool, he just makes sense to appear, tho in my opinion as a boss.
Geno is your valid point, I don't know either how he got so much fans voting for him for Smash Bros, and I like him too.
I insist, not in Japan. The advertisement thing explains itself, but the franchise is not niche, and that was what we talked about.

If he plays like Melee Mario it won't be so bad. That's the only Smash game where I actually liked playing as Mario (I still preferred Luigi though).

The thing is Diddy and Dixie wouldn't have to be clones. Brawl already had a few characters that let the player choose between multiple movesets: Samus/ZSSamus, Pokemon Trainer, Zelda/Sheik, etc. Diddy and Dixie would just be active at the same time. For better or worse SSB4 removed that option.
Maybe a wacky future sequel could have Tag Team division. Every character would have a partner with unique team moves!

You know it strikes me as odd that Captain Falcon's stage is locked when he's a starter himself. Where will we fight him in classic mode and such if we haven't unlocked the stage?

While Wii Fit Trainer was a surprise for us, it's not as if no one had ever guessed them before. Even Sakurai didn't speak in absolutes when he brought her up:
"... pretty much no one imagined this character would join the battle."
There were some people who predicted her, no matter how umcommon they are. There are almost no characters out there who haven't gotten a character request.
I'm not saying this to discredit the leak, I'm saying this because speaking in absolutes like "literally no one ever thought of this" just makes you sound bad. Nothing is impossible.
Seriously, anyone defending the leaks needs to chill the fuck out before saying absolutely no one thought Wii Fit Trainer could be in.
Yeah, realised after I posted that it would have only been six when Melee came out. Still, that was a current series at that point that I'm pretty sure was fairly popular in Japan and had untapped potential in the West. And Roy was a clone, added late in development to bolster the roster. Again, it's a very different situation.
I wouldn't be against Doc getting in next time, but it feels early right now imo. Of course, it could easily happen...I just think it would have to be a clone and I don't know who he could be a clone of.

Punch-Out!! for Wii just happened a couple years ago, dude! It's not like it's some dead franchise, and the dev even pushed for the idea of making a sequel.
Also, in no way would Doc have to be a clone. :v He COULD be a clone, in the same way that Dixie COULD be a clone, but Doc has plenty of things that he could do that Little Mac wouldn't.
If we don't get another character reveal trailer or an opening cinematic that features Sonic in it, it would be the biggest fucking bullshit ever.
He was totally robbed in this game and the last one. I don't buy him being a third-party being a problem since Sonic isn't even in the AKB48 trailer while Mega Man is. Mario's arguably biggest cross-franchise rival deserves more.
I truly hope that since this game is basically called "Super Smash Bros." with the appended console names being just preferable for packaging/marketing's sake, that it'll be enough cause for them to pay homage to the opening.

and to be fair,. the other side of the argument is that he's not automatically legit just because he got some things right. Chorus Kids? Chrom? Shulk reveal? He was wrong...multiple times...whether he was legit or not, you can't be that one-sided.
I know theres hindsight bias, but its Sakurai, and Wii Fit Trainer is not IMPOSSIBLE to guess. Either way, even if he was legit at one point, clearly he either bailed or had no idea what happened after development started.

I really liked him in The Wind Waker, he said very little but it told a lot (if you know what I mean). I was hoping that this "more developed villian" trend would continue with Twilight Princess but nope, went way backward there (Ganondorf didn't even seem to care that Link and Zelda had Triforce pieces, and that's like... his motivation... little things like that make me really dislike TP's story)
