Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

The little paragraph on Daisy in the Prima guide for Mario Kart Double Dash gives her more personality than any actual game. It's pretty sad.

Speak for yourself. I was that dork who went through four years of high school with Mario on my binder lol.

You're totally right, though.

I never stopped liking mario, and Zelda was my most anticipated game as a young adult. I played nintendo nonstop.

That said, I had a phase at around when I was 10, all the way through maybe...16... where I actively sought out 'mature' games. The bloodier, gorier, more 'mature' the better. Started with mortal kombat (when i was like... 8), and continued with turok 2, bad fur day, GTA, etc, until I realized that I had way more fun playing nintendo anyway, and kinda stopped looking for violent games for the sake of being violent and bloody. I grew out of it.

I never stopped playing non-mature games though. I kept up w/ all major nintendo releases, final fantasy, mega man (legends, *sniff*), and so forth. It's just that I also sought out 'Mature' games because they were 'cool.'

Covers are fine to post right?

What are these

Ooo

This is so bizarre and crass and crude and loud (like, REALLY loud, RIP headphone users) that I feel compelled to share it regardless of any real humor value it holds: Shulk goes MLG

The katakana implies it's Famitsu DS and Wii... but the strategy guide thingy (lit. "Fighters Guide") can't be out already, surely.

Hey SmashGAF, I--

Series lists? Ok let's see:

- Mario: Played every 2D and 3D Mario game. Played all the Paper Mario games except Sticker Star.
- Kirby: All of them except Dreamland 1-3, Squeak Squad and Mass Attack
- DK: I've played DKC2, but not the first or third one. Played DK64 and DKCR though!
- Pokemon: Every Gen (Go Hoenn region!) and Pokemon Snap. They need to make another one of those. I also played Colosseum and Stadium 1 and 2.
- Legend of Zelda: Oot - SS. Played Minish Cap and Phantom Hourglass. Never played LttP...
- Metroid: I"m working on playing more of this series. I beat Prime 1-3 within like 3 months lol so awesome. Recently beat Super Metroid and I'll probably go to Metroid Fusion in the future.
- Starfox: Played them all except Command, beat them all...except Command.
- F-Zero: I've only played F-Zero GX, and frankly that's the only one anyone should ever play O_O
- Mother: Haven't played :(
- Animal Crossing: Don't care for the series
- Pikmin: Originally didn't like these games, but ever since getting Pikmin 3 for free with MK8 I'm actually enjoying it!
- Fire Emblem: Haven't played, not a fan of the genre
- Metal Gear Solid: Played MGS 2 & 3, not 1 & 4. I love Metal Gear Rising, that kinda counts right?
- Sonic the Hedgehog: Haha, look at my avatar, obviously I'm a fan! I'll just say my favs are Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic CD, Sonic Colors, and Sonic Generations. Oh and I like the Sonic All Stars Racing series too.
- Megaman: Played some of the classic series, none of the X series, and played Megaman Zero 1-4 on GBA.
- Pac-man: OG Pac-man and Ms. Pac-man. Also Pac-man Championship DX+, that game is addicitng
- Wii Fit: Nah
- Xenoblade Chronicles: I borrowed it from a friend last year but only got to play about an hour in before I had to give it back to him when he moved. Haven't played it since, but I will!
- Animal Crossing: Not a fan
- Punch Out!! - Yeah, Punch Out Wii is awesome!
- Mii - I guess it's a series? Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Play...yeah

That should be it.

Isn't the majority of events gamestop when it comes to pokemon nowadays?
Though with that said odd that stuff like the game demos for smash are bestbuy.

They do a lot of random distributions over wi-fi, for a time they actually gave out the mythics through it.

The seem to have changed their mind on that lately.

Since Gen 5 there are events done online. Usually gen-exclusive legendaries.

I get Shiny Gengar being a GS event, but why Diancie?!

why so? the guide apparently comes with famitsu DSWii

Ok that makes sense. Forgot all about the wifi feature.
Yeah seems weird to do that and then go right back to retailer specific.

The amount of hype they're injecting into Smash 3DS.

I wonder how the fuck they intend to keep any hype for the Wii U game..

New characters. It has to be new characters.

So gaf, what's your smash bros game cred? Which characters on the roster have you played in other games? Which ones have you not?
I pretty much played the games of every character in Smash except Fire Emblem titles that star Marth and Ike and ROB games. (Though I played MKDS where he's playable and most games where he makes a cameo in)

Though with Shulk being in now, add Xenoblade to the list.

Adventure mode, stage builder, event matches, more developed minigames, a decent stage roster; and some veterans and newcomers not in the base 3DS game, maybe?

Yeah, I was thinking MK8, TF, and maybe Bayonetta and Smash. I got some shit last year for having W101 above TLoU, so I am cautious about having too many games on one system, probably irrationally.

I'm still flipping back and forth on HW. Considering going to Best Buy this week to pre-order it but I'm also pretty Musou'd out.
Why are you worried about people "giving you shit" for your game order? Just be yourself and like what you like. :-)

Yeah, we're basically nintendo rep twins! Except I *JUST* beat xenoblade, and i've never played mother 3.

I'm still hoping for 'custom events' and 'custom target smash' that you can upload to miiverse/share with friends.

That's correct, but given that our weekly "Sakurai describes a fighter for Famitsu" usually comes Tuesday/Wednesday, and it's only Monday, I wouldn't have assumed the issue with the Fighter's Guide was on store shelves yet.

Early copy taken from publisher etc. It happens. Coro Coro gets leaked that way.

The funny thing is I just recently beat Mother 3, haha.

If lucas makes it in, i'll make mother 3 be my goal by smash U release.

Otherwise, i'll wait til next year.

What if that 100 page guide contains menu pics and Smash Run images

It's nothing but picture of the day and content on the smash website.
No, seriously, I bet that's all it is.

That's what the 2.5 hour stream's gonna be too.

Smash run marathon, nonstop smash run for 2.5 hours. Play it with each of the veterans, none of the newcomers or interesting alt costumes.

"Wow, smash run is so fun, let's do it again!" *picks mario, vs bots over and over*

Wii U exclusive characters with them being DLC for the 3DS version or some kind of connection between the console and handheld to unlock them, calling it now

This is my take as well.
Could see the WiiU version offering a voucher for the 3DS characters to push people to double dip. Or just if you can connect your 3DS to a WiiU you'll get the characters or something. They're going to keep the parity but 3DS is going to get screwed in some way shape or form I feel.

I wonder same thing. I'm eager to see what Sakurai have in his sleeves for Wii U tho.

We know absolutely nothing about additional modes for the Wii U. Also, I expect most of the wii u coverage to focus on Amiibo functionality, since that will be coming out around the same time.

Speaking of Smash cred, what were the games that Smash introduced to you? Like you only knew it existed because of Smash then because of it, you started playing at least a game in that series?

I remember when Smash 64 was introduced. Then I unlocked Ness. I was like..."Ness who?" Then, with the help of a collector friend, I borrowed a SNES copy of Earthbound, and I really enjoyed Mother series ever since.

Melee introduced me to Fire Emblem. And I really enjoyed FE games ever since too.

For Brawl, well nothing as I played the some of the games of the newcomers. Would probably be the same for Smash 4.

They could always just introduce the new characters as part of routine updates, seeing as there will likely be a couple of stability / debug updates for the game anyway.

I don't think they need to. Plenty of people - perhaps even a majority? - already consider the Wii U version the definitive version of Smash, the 3DS being a holdover, a game to be played when you don't have your Wii U, "Smash Lite." For those who are getting the Wii U version, I don't think the 3DS version will drain any of the hype.

I don't think they'll go the route of Wii U exclusive characters that become 3DS DLC. I don't expect them to do anything for the Wii U that they didn't do for the 3DS, honestly.
