My favorite Metal Slug. For six dollars. On PC where I can use my arcade stick. With optional online play. I'm in love <3
Because it's an older game that was played in 4:3, and altering the aspect ratio would require reprogramming the game, altering the gameplay, and changing the levels in a way the developers didn't intend.

I imagine that pretty significantly changes the gameplay.
Unless you mean with borders, then yeah, they should totally be able to do that.

On one hand, it's nice to offer options. After all, don't want a repeat of the Metal Slug Anthology on the Wii...
On the other hand, I imagine playing the game with poorly stretched graphics like that would be awful. On top of making the game a bit more difficult.
SNKP don't own the rights to Windjammers iirc. I believe that's Data East. The same with Dunk Dream '95.
No, that's Metal Slug 2. Metal Slug X fixes that games' slowdown issues.
With MS3, the slowdown was because of the NG's hardware, not the actual emulation iirc

Although Metal Slug 2 was my main game, Metal Slug X is still superb. It's a more difficult version of 2 with remixed baddies and bug fixes.
I wonder what made SNK do Metal Slug X in the first place back in 1999. It was a bit of a surprise back then that the big new Metal Slug arcade game was just a remix of Metal Slug 2 from 1998. Maybe they just wanted quarters & pounds in 1999 and Metal Slug 3 wasn't yet ready.

MS2 was incredibly buggy.
Yup, lots of slowdown and whatnot. At least they went the extra mile and pretty much made Metal Slug 2 Special.
Still prefer the original MS2 personally though.

Apart from the slowdown, I don't remember any bugs. I played that extensively in 1998 in the arcade and on Neo CD.
I got Metal Slug Anthology on Wii so I may fire it up to check it out again.

Interesting. The steam version of MS3 has the purposeful slow down I noticed (i actually dislike it, I would rather have a copmletel and fluid 60 at all times).

Apparently that was delisted at the end of last year. It's the only Neo Geo game delisted off the Virtual Console and other Data East games like the Magical Drop series are still up.
Make of that what you will.
This and Metal Slug 3 will be the only ones.

Yup. Two players local or online. I dunno how good Metal Slug 3's online play is, but local co-op with a friend is an utter blast.
