Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

Those franchise list would take two hours or so for me to explain everything so I will keep it simple.

Including leak characters, I haven't complete MGS, FE and Xenoblade but I have played those games for brief.

That's really all you need. Everything else can be deduced by process of elimination.

So you're paying $60 a week to play it early. Dedication!

Worth every penny, when I know the alternative would be to suffer for 3 solid weeks.

Zelda: First game was A Link to the Past. I vividly remember getting literally all stuff I could (or thought that I could) - Ice Rod, Heart Pieces, Bottles, Bombs, Boomerang, Lantern, etc. - and then never beating the Eastern Palace for a long time because I was afraid of the orbs that launched down the narrow hallway when you entered. I've since obviously grown more accustomed to it, and I've played and beaten most Zelda games. The only ones I haven't beaten are Zelda II, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, and Spirit Tracks.

Out of curiosity, why those four games?

The only core series Zelda games I haven't played yet are Majora's Mask, Phantom Hourglass, and Link Between Worlds.

soon...

Is that Ninten or Ness? :P

Is there gonna be a spoiler free thread.

If we still don't know the. Final roster I wanna keep it that way
If the mods don't want too many Smash threads we could agree to make this the official information thread i.e. trailers and PotDs while the OT can have general talk.

I also never played games much as a kid infact not at all since it was a rare thing in korea i think i didnt get my first gameboy color until i was 13 lol. And as i grew older games have been getting further and further pushed back

There is day 1 paid DLC in Mario Golf World Tour, and there is on disc paid DLC in Hyrule Warriors.

The former was due to the game's development schedule permitting a large amount of content to be added after certification, and the latter is Tecmo Koei doing their thing. I doubt either would be the case for Smash - its hectic schedule wouldn't permit a Mario Golf situation, and anything on-disc, even something as minor as costumes, would conflict with Sakurai's ethos.

I won't go all in, but franchises I haven't played? Sure, why not.

Ice Climber: Beyond the Masterpiece in Brawl, I've never really had a desire to play it. If they offered it free via Club Nintendo or something I'd give it a spin.
Game & Watch: Originals were before my time, naturally, and the re-releases and such have never interested me enough to actually get them.
ROB: Never had an NES, and it's pretty tough to play his games nowadays without one, I think. And what's the point without the actual ROB?
Xenoblade Chronicles: It's on my list, but I'm not really a JRPG guy and it's WAY expensive.
Duck Hunt: Yeah, I'm SUPER surprised by this one. I could have sworn I played it at some point - it's so ubiquitous - but I've never played a game on an actual NES, and it's never been re-released for obvious reasons, so yeah, I've never played Duck Hunt!
Metal Gear: Not for lack of trying here, but without a Sony console, my only options are Twin Snakes and Snake Eater 3D. I'm hoping that the Phantom Pain's release on Steam is a portent, though, and we'll get the originals on PC as well. I'd be first in line!

With titles like Mario Clash and Mario is Missing (SNES), I find it unlikely that many people here have actually played every Mario game.
Those aren't all that obscure. The former was one of the only titles on the VB, which already made it worth playing. All those 'Early Years' games on that list surprised me though. I thought there was only one.
I've played 95% of the garbage on that list. Missing included. I have not played key titles such as 'teaches typewriting,' however.
I have Teaches Typing, but I haven't gone to the trouble of getting it to run on a modern system.
What do you mean 'will be DLC'? Like, ever?

Ha! Well, I owe you thanks for encouraging me to play Xenoblade Chronicles. That'll make my own wait much easier. Feel free to check out my LTTP in progress. :-D

I just beat it last night. 40ish hours of skipping all sidequests, basically. Great stuff, but I know i missed a huge chunk of it, but no time! No time before smash to appreciate it all. Glad you're loving it and that my quick little summary of the game convinced you to get it.
The MMO style sidequests and huge open fields make it feel like you really ARE on an adventure.

I plan on going through in new game plus and doing most, if not all, of the sidequests.

If the treehouse guys are open to spoiling the game and unlocking stuff in the stream, I hope we get some interesting trivia about the characters or their development.

Be nice to use some of that time to discuss the development of the game, and without he limits of remaining spoiler free, it could be incredibly cool to watch.

This is assuming they don't just play the no unlock able demo that Japan got for 8 hours and ignore the fact we already will know everything by then because of early copies and the game being out.

Well I'll be an unspecial snowflake and post mine:

Mario: I've played nearly every single one (I know I haven't played NSMB2 and there might be others). My favorites are NSMBU, SM64, Galaxy, and SMW.

Yoshi: The only good Yoshi games are Tetris Attack and SMW.

Wario: I've played a few. SML3 is pretty fun. Warioware is mostly awful, though.

Donkey Kong: I adore DKC 1 and 2. DKC3 was pretty dumb, though. The Retro versions are pretty great, though I don't think they quite live up to the originals.

Game and Watch: I've never actually played one, though I played a lot of the similar Tiger games. I've never been a huge fan of LCD games.

Zelda: It's one of my favorite series. OoT, Link to the Past, and the NES games are probably my favorites. There's hardly a stinker in the bunch... if you ignore the DS and CD-i games, which you probably should.

Metroid: Super Metroid is the best game ever. Period. The Prime games, Fusion, the original, Metroid 2, and Zero Mission are all great in their own regard. Hunters is pretty underrated too.

Kid Icarus: The NES and GB games are pretty bad, but Uprising is excellent and maybe the best game on the 3DS.

Fire Emblem: I'm really not a fan of SRPGs. They're just way too slow for me.

Kirby: I've never played a Kirby game other than Canvas Curse, which is really super fun.

Little Mac: I loved the NES and SNES versions. The Wii version is great too, but I'm pretty awful at it.

Star Fox: Star Fox 64 is one of the most quotable games ever and is insanely fun to play. The SNES version was great too, but I haven't been able to get into later entries.

Pokemon: I always avoided the series due to the cartoon, but I got Y after getting hooked on the series via Twitch Plays Pokemon and now I think I'm a fan.

Duck Hunt: I loved the original, as it was one of the first 2 games I owned with the split cartridge that also included SMB1. I always played way too close to the TV, though, because my aim was awful.

ROB: I never played Gyromite or knew it existed until much later.

Mother: Earthbound is pretty darn boring and frustrating. I don't really get the love for it.

F-Zero: I am so, so bad at the games that I can't really enjoy them, but GX is really pretty.

Animal Crossing: I played a ton of the GCN version and a bit of the DS version, but I think I got burned out on it.

Pikmin: Pikmin 2 is easily the best of the series. I just can't bring myself to finish the third for some reason.

Wii Fit: I have the original and Wii U versions. I really need to use it more.

Dr. Mario: I played some of the original but didn't enjoy it as much as other puzzle games.

Xenoblade: As I've said many places, I really don't get the love for it. I borrowed it and put in at least 10 hours if not more, but the voice acting, story, and dialogue were all terrible with monotonous gameplay and rather bland visuals. The music was nice I guess.

Pac-Man: I am terrible at it, but it's pretty darn addictive. It holds a special place in my heart for being among the first video games I ever played.

Mega Man: It's one of my favorite series ever. MM2, MM3, and MMX are definite highlights for me.

Sonic: I was obsessed with Sonic as a kid though I only owned the first 2. I rented S&K and Sonic 3 all the time, though rarely together. I'm not a big fan of the 3D iterations, though.

Metal Gear Solid: I really enjoyed the first one but MGS2 had such a ridiculous story that I lost all interest in the series.

Ice Climbers: I played it much later and found it to be pretty fun even if it's very awkward to control.

Soo...what is your argument against not all characters being included in the leaked portion of the ESRB trailer now that the whole "different saves or different progress" theory based on the Barbera trophy has been debunked?

I don't even know what the Barbara argument was; I only caught bits and pieces of it as I flipped through the quickly-passing pages.

I simply think it's unlikely that the stuff sent to the ESRB wouldn't contain all the characters. After all, I suspect it's from the characters that most of the ratings concerns will arise, so I bet the ESRB would want to see all of them.

Those aren't all that obscure. The former was one of the only titles on the VB, which already made it worth playing. All those 'Early Years' games on that list surprised me though. I thought there was only one.

I didn't think many people would actually buy a Virtual Boy, let alone play it.
Is it really as bad as the legends say?

Ouch, I think I already preordered Hyrule Warriors. That's the first I've heard of THAT from Nintendo (or a Nintendo-related studio). I don't like DLC, but on-disc DLC especially is kind of insulting.

They just have to show the most questionable content. Likely Duck Hunt is the most questionable cahracter that they had to show.

Bowser uses his roars except for when Junior is in play, then he reverts to his Super Mario Sunshine voice.

It's the costume DLC for Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf. Link/Zelda are preorder DLC, and Ganondorf costumes are Club Nintendo rewards. I think at least Link/Zelda can be bought off the eShop, but it's on-disc for sure.

Out of curiosity, why those four games?

The only core series Zelda games I haven't played yet are Majora's Mask, Phantom Hourglass, and Link Between Worlds.

1. Zelda II is a pretty tough game, and I hit a wall right before the final palace
2. I lost interest in TP. When I tried to go back, I found myself having no idea of where to go next.
3. I could barely force myself to get through Phantom Hourglass, and while Spirit Tracks was fine, it became very dull. Whomever decided to strip a Zelda game of its exploration should be fired.
4. Never owned Skyward Sword until now, due in part to my then lack of interest in the series. Barely started it, not loving the controls.

A Link Between Worlds saved the series for me.

They just have to show the most questionable content. Likely Duck Hunt is the most questionable cahracter that they had to show.

But then why would they show all the other seemingly-innocuous stuff like Dr. Mario, Mr. Game & Watch, the Yoshi's Island stage, the Tomodachi Life stage, etc? Why show (or at least have unlocked) 686 trophies - surely not all of them have questionable content? It appears to me that they went ahead and showed the ESRB all the content, not just the questionable stuff.

How do we know 686 is ALL the trophies? Aren't we all just making that assumption?

it's not as bad as legends, but still annoying
Yep, nailed it.

It's a neat idea, but in practice really uncomfortable and inconvenient. It's not unbearable though. I played through the Wario game on it without much problem.

I just hated having to go sit at a table anytime I wanted to play.
