Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

Ouch, I think I already preordered Hyrule Warriors. That's the first I've heard of THAT from Nintendo (or a Nintendo-related studio). I don't like DLC, but on-disc DLC especially is kind of insulting.

Its kinda bs but at least its all strictly cosmetic. Its also tecmo koei, they're publishing in japan, but I'm sure Nintendo could have stopped them if they wanted.

Yep, nailed it.

It's a neat idea, but in practice really uncomfortable and inconvenient. It's not unbearable though. I played through the Wario game on it without much problem.

I just hated having to go sit at a table anytime I wanted to play.

yeah my main gripe with it is...for a portable system, it's not very portable

Despite being called Smash Brothers, there really isn't much family relation here.
Mario and Luigi are brothers, Marth is a distant ancestor of Lucina, Robin has the potential to be Lucina's mother (not canon though), and now we have our fourth: Bowser's
only canon
child, Bowser Jr.
And Princess Peach is his mama.

The remaining reveal trailers will be acted out by Bill Trinen playing with the corresponding newcomers' Amiibos

I'd actually watch this
I would prefer this to any animated trailer they could make.

But then why would they show all the other seemingly-innocuous stuff like Dr. Mario, Mr. Game & Watch, the Yoshi's Island stage, the Tomodachi Life stage, etc? Why show (or at least have unlocked) 686 trophies - surely not all of them have questionable content? It appears to me that they went ahead and showed the ESRB all the content.

It's entirely possible that Dr. Mario and the like were obtained because in order to get one character, they ended up unlocking others. It's entirely possible that other characters were not unlocked by the people involved, that the unlock steps weren't implemented just yet, or that they locked away certain content in order to avoid a leak of everything.

Further, the trophies could have been forcefully-unlocked by a code - can you imagine having to play that long to get that many trophies, just for an ESRB reel?

Still waiting for the $99 GamePad-less SKU myself.

They were already advertising the DLC well before launch. Does it really make a difference if it's technically on the disc?

It's the same issue: they're still making a conscious effort to withhold content from the game to exploit us for money.

I don't let it stop me from buying games (because then I'd never get to play much these days), I just don't get the related DLC.

I'm only missing two pieces of the Zelda timeline - Adventure of Link and Minish Cap. AoL is going to be a tough one (I've played it but never beaten it), but I'm looking forward to Minish Cap - the Oracle games are classics, so another Capcom developed handheld Zelda should be fun. And they're both on the Virtual Console, so I'm all set!

I'm disappointed in a lack of "retro Zelda" bonus stuff this time around as far as Smash goes. ALBW was awesome and a great resurgence of that classic look, but I guess it was too recent to really warrant much consideration. It's too bad, as I doubt there'll be another chance for that aesthetic to be relevant again for the next Smash Bros. - I remember that rumored vertical scrolling Tower of Hera stage for 3DS. That would have been awesome.

I'm glad that we got a Spirit Tracks stage, though. The DS Zeldas are oft-maligned, and not without good reason, but they had some cool concepts and I'm glad they're not immediately off to the dustbin.

The yoshi stage was probably selected for its simplicity so the focus could be on Shulk and Jr for the ratings board

Showing the ESRB all content no matter what is a waste of Nintendo and the ESRB's time. If content isn't objectionable they wouldn't bother showing it. Shulk and Jr were probably required because of the sword fighting aspect (fantasy violence) and Jr's bullets and bombs (cartoon violence). Duck Hunt, Doc, etc wouldn't really change the rating at all.

What you don't realise is that Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is based on real events and Speedwagon is the real speedwagon and currently head of the world-wide speedwagon foundation :3

The only series in smash that I haven't played any games from are ROB's lil collection and the Mother series. I don't really feel all that compelled to 'fix' those gaps in my experience :P

Mario: Played all the main series and a lot of spin-offs
Zelda: Can't think of any I haven't played.
Metroid: Played them all, been waiting for Metroid 5 for a long time.
Donkey Kong: Played Donkey Kong (GameBoy), all the DKC games but I didn't like the SNES ones at all and Jungle Beat
Yoshi: Only played Yoshi's Island, don't understand the praise it gets.
Pokemon: Played pretty much everything.
StarFox: Played StarFox, Adventure and Command. Adventure was the best one.
Kid Icarus: Played all three games.
Kirby: Played everything, wish the Wii collection had released in Europe :(
Fire Emblem: Played all the ones that had an English release and a few fan translated ones.
Punch Out: Played NES, SNES and Wii. Hope we get a new one soon.
Wario: Played Wario Land 1 and most of the WarioWare games
Earthbound: Currently playing through, loving it so far.
Ice Climbers: Played it a lot as a kid.
Pikmin: Played all 3, 1 and 2 using the Wii versions. Don't know how anyone could have played with a standard controller.
Sonic: Played just about everything, Sonic 1 was my first video game.
Metal Gear: Played everything but Ground Zeroes, waiting for PC release.
Animal Crossing: Got the 3DS game for free, played it for a few days, got rid of it. I don't get it
Wii Fit: Try to play most days, need the exercise :(
Xenoblade: Played through multiple times, will do so again on N3DS
Megaman: Played through just everything - Classic, X, Legends, Battle Network. Didn't like what I played of StarForce
Pac-Man: Played the original, Pac-Man World and CEDX+
F-Zero: Played everything. Why no new game Nintendo?
Game&Watch: I have a couple different ones lying around. Recently got the Zelda one.

Never played Duck Hunt or with a ROB

Mario: Played a but load of main games, spin offs and the like. 3D platformers, and Mario Kart are my favourites. Even though I don't necessarily want it to be, this is probably my most played series ever.
Yoshi: Never played a Yoshi only game. Might play SMW2 sometime.
Donkey Kong: Played the Rare Country games and the original classic. Definitely want to get into the Retro series when I have some down time.
Wario: Never played Land. Had a fun time with Smooth Moves on the Wii. That's it. I may get Shake It, but there are too many games lol.
Zelda: One of my favourite series. First was Wind Waker. I've played every console game after that. Gone Back to OoT, LttP and the Original. Never played a hand held game.
Metroid: Played the three Prime games first on the Wii. Then went back to Super Metroid. I want more for sure.
Kirby: Played 64 but couldn't beat the final boss haha.
Star Fox: Never played a Star Fox game. Unless it's shit my first will be the Wii U one.
Pokemon: Never even touched a Pokemon game. Well maybe I played Stadium at a friends house once. Most of my knowledge comes from the first few seasons of the anime.
F-Zero: Never played unfortunately. Although I'm not a racing fan, I'd buy a new game for sure, the cast really interests me.
EarthBound: Got the Wii U VC release. Playing through it now and it's good stuff. May try out Mother 3 afterwards.
Ice Climber: Nope. Probably will never play either without a Sakurai Reboot.
Fire Emblem: I'm an Awakening Newb, but I loved it and I want more.
Game & Watch: Nope, not even a collection. You may notice I wasn't not a portable gamer until Smash changed that.
Kid Icarus: Uprising is fantastic. Won't go back to scary, hard NES game though.
Pikmin: Playing through 3 now. It's great, first RTS I can handle. May go back to 2 later.
R.O.B.: Never had the chance. Probably never will.
Animal Crossing: Played City Folk on the Wii. Checking in every day wasn't for me. At least not on a home console.
Sonic: Grew up with Sonic. 1 was the first game I ever played. Heroes (lol) was my first PS2 game. Colours and Generations are great but I've kinda falling out of love of Sonic.
Metal Gear: Solid is one of my favourite series. Love them all for one reason or another. Never played the originals but Rising is also amazing.
Wii Fit: Played a bit to get my mum into it. Haven't gone back.
Punch Out!!: Played the Wii game. But I sucked at it and it took me like two years to finish.
Xenoblade: Nope. Might get X, but unless I fall in love with Shulk, I don't see myself going back.
Mega Man: Never played a single Mega Man game. Sorry!
Pac-Man: I'm crap at the original, but that's about it.

Yep, nailed it.

It's a neat idea, but in practice really uncomfortable and inconvenient. It's not unbearable though. I played through the Wario game on it without much problem.

I just hated having to go sit at a table anytime I wanted to play.

To be fair, it's a really good Wario Land game.

I don't even know what the Barbara argument was; I only caught bits and pieces of it as I flipped through the quickly-passing pages.

I simply think it's unlikely that the stuff sent to the ESRB wouldn't contain all the characters. After all, I suspect it's from the characters that most of the ratings concerns will arise, so I bet the ESRB would want to see all of them.

Well, THE main point of most people beleiving that the ESRB leak showed all characters was that we had one image with a trophy count of 6/11 trophies (Barbara) and one image with a trophy count of 3xx/6xx, leading many to believe that the ESRB video was made using footage of different savegames or different playtimes in the same savegame, making the lock symbol on All-Star meaningless.

However yesterday or so it was discovered that 6/11 was just a list of trophies which were being obtained in a run of SmashRun, thus leaving no indication that the ESRB vid wasn't made with footage from the same point in the game - meaning that the locked All-Star indicates that the full roster isn't unlocked yet.

It appears to me that they went ahead and showed the ESRB all the content, not just the questionable stuff.

But they didn't really show those things. Although they appear in the character selection screen, they seemingly aren't showcased in the video. Same goes to the trophies, just because there were 686 trophies, it doesn't mean they showed all of them. They just happened to be unlocked in the video showcasing other elements, but the same video that also showed not everything was unlocked with the all star bit, so they didn't show them everything.

Also, don't forget that before the update about All Star, it seemed like even the leaker thought that the lock on All Star meant that the mode itself was locked, which further indicates that not even the parts of the video that weren't uploaded actually show that mode.

Alright, let's see...

Mario: Played most of them. World was one of the first games I ever played.
Zelda: Played most of them. Similarly, LttP was one of the first games I ever played. There are VHS tapes somewhere in our house of my mom and brother both beating it, but I never actually finished it myself till this past December...
Metroid: Played Prime 2 multiplayer a decent amount; helped cousin through Prime 2's single player too. Played some Hunters with a friend. Otherwise, not much. Mean to play through them at some point.
Donkey Kong: ...does Donkey Konga count? Besides that, original and Jr. a little, and I'm pretty sure I played most of Jungle Beat.
Pokemon: Didn't play anything in Gen V or certain spinoffs (though I did play some of them); never completed a few earlier non-main games I've started or Y (yet), though I've played a ton of Yellow/Gold/Ruby/Pearl.
Yoshi: Played Island and Story, etc.
StarFox: Weirdly, my friends/family used to play Assault's multiplayer a ton. Like how some people talk about Goldeneye, almost. But beyond that, only I've played a little of Adventures and dabbled with the others.
Kid Icarus: I have to admit that I own Uprising but haven't gotten around to playing it yet.
Kirby: As far as I can remember: Dream Land, 64 through Squeak Squad, and I still have to finish Mass Attack one day. Really want to get the recent ones I've missed out on at some point, but it's not much of a priority.
Fire Emblem: I think I played a little on the GBA (my brother bought it at some point), but my copy of Awakening is sitting with Uprising in my backlog.
Punch Out: NES one a little.
Wario: All Wario Land games except Wario World; I totally forgot that I never beat Shake It till now. As far as WarioWare, I didn't play Snapped, DIY (well, used it, I guess?), or Game & Wario. Played Master of Disguise.
Earthbound: I have played about an hour of the original Mother.
Gyromite (ROB): Nope!
Ice Climbers: Through Animal Crossing, I think.
Pikmin: I played and enjoyed first two games a decent amount; I never beat them nor did I end up getting Pikmin 3. I think if I ever want to get 3 I'll try to beat the first two beforehand, if I can find my copies, since I'll probably enjoy them a lot more now that I'm older and can plan things out better.
Sonic: The first two and Spinball were some of the first games I ever played as well. I've played most of what was released up through Heroes. Watched a full LP of 2006, for reasons I forget.
Metal Gear: Own the Legacy collection and in the past couple weeks I've been chipping away at MGS. Excited to get to the others, but it may take a while...
Animal Crossing: All of the ones that were released in the US; I... think I only played City Folk once, though.
Wii Fit: With my family a decent amount.
Xenoblade: Still haven't played it yet (and Smash discussion elsewhere has spoiled me on
Metal Face's identity
...); plan to borrow it from a friend next summer when I have the time for an RPG that long.
Megaman: I have played a ton of the Battle Network games, a decent amount of the Zero series, and very little of anything else. If I try anything, it'd be Star Force.
Pac-Man: We had a Genesis version of either the original or Ms. Pac-Man because my mom loves them. Never played most of the weird spin-offs but if one of the originals is in an arcade, I'll play a little.
Duck Hunt: Never!
F-Zero: Played the GCN one a little with friends.
Game&Watch: Played one of the Gallery releases as my aunt had it; also whatever was on the e-Reader, I'm pretty sure.

And I'm happy to see Wonder Red do that well. I'm still really disappointed that he's not even an AT.

FOR FUCKS SAKE PEOPLE, PLAY F-ZERO, any of them, they're equally AWESOME, there's nothing like them, F-ZERO, F-ZERO X, F-ZERO Maximum Velocity, F-ZERO GX, F-ZERO GP Legend, Even the JP-exclusive F-ZERO Climax.

Do it guys, you won't regret it

The only franchises with playable characters in Smash I don't have much experience with are Metroid, Mother, F-Zero, Xenoblade, and Gyromte/ROB.

I own every Metroid aside from the DS games and Zero Mission, but I shamefully haven't played any of them. I do plan on starting Zero Mission as soon as it gets on Wii U VC though. I bought Earthbound on the Wii U VC but haven't really had time to delve into a ~30 hour RPG. I own Xenoblade but I only got to (major early game spoilers)
Fiora's death.
I haven't gotten past that for the same reason as Earthbound, except 5 times as long lol. Will definitely play it on the new 3DS, because I'm much more likely to play on my handhelds. I do plan on beating all three of these games within a year though.

I may pick up F-Zero GX eventually but idk.

As for ROB... don't think I'll ever have access to that lol.

Heath pls

please don't

Hahaha. Good stuff.

Only if Pichu replaces him

what about doctor mario

Heath stahp. Sakurai can't cut what I never knew I wanted...

The better question is WHY wouldn't you be surprised

I'm being pessimistic about it.

Heath. He's in.

You can stop worrying now.

With that Wario, I don't trust you!
