Yeah I mean I have drawn Ninten with the scarf before as well, just wondering if it'd be considered as "official" by Sakurai in the hypothetical case of him being an alt.

We've had palettes inspired by commercials before, as with Falcon's black outfit, but I doubt it'd be considered before Ninten's official appearance.

True, good point. She really does feel nerfed to me, but she might end up being great in a completely different way from how she was great (to me) in Brawl.

You know, dude, I love your posts, but I'm honestly and truly shocked you haven't gotten banned by now for some of images you post here. :p

No comment on this one, haha!
Gotta avoid 'dem real, thick, & juicy posts. Plus this is a legit thing in Awakening.....albeit a creepy way to think of it......dammit, Internet.
I'm guilty of doing so in my 2nd playthrough, though.

The only time Ninten had a scarf was the live-action Japanese commercial. i think Ninten having a scarf and Ness a backpack works really well to make them look different.

Yeah the canon-ness (?) of the bandana is in doubt, though I could certainly see Sakurai adapting it to distinguish Ninten from Ness. Without it they look practically identical. It was featured in promotional Nintendo stuff so it isn't too drastic of a leap.

Since I'm bored I guess I'll do this

Mario: I don't know what Mario game or spinoff I haven't played. I've owned everything from Super Mario Bros. to DDR: Mario Mix at one point. Super Mario World is one of my favorite platformers of all time.
Yoshi: Love the original Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story. His more modern games haven't impressed me. Wanna try Woolly World though.
Wario: One of the reasons I own a Virtual Boy. VB Wario Land is amazing. WarioWare is one of my favorite game series ever. Mega Microgame$ is probably my favorite GBA game.
Mr Game & Watch: Fell in love with him through Melee, own a lot of Game and Watch Gallery titles. Also the Game and Watch Ball Club Nintendo repro.
Donkey Kong: DK Arcade is so timeless. Country series is amazing, Wii U owners buy Tropical Freeze ASAP.
Zelda: The series I neglect more than I should. I buy every Zelda and proceed to not finish them... except ALTTP and ALBW. I love top-down Zelda the most.
Metroid: Love the Prime games. I've never played through Super Metroid like everyone says I should. One day.
Kid Icarus: Love the original Kid Icarus, but Sakurai's work with Uprising earned it a place as one of my favorite 3DS titles. Phenomenal game.
Fire Emblem: Marth and Roy's appearance in Melee piqued my interest as a kid. I bought Fire Emblem upon it's release and poured hours into it. Favorites are Sacred Stones and Awakening.
Kirby: I love Kirby! Kirby 64 and Triple Deluxe are both awesome. I love the NES game as well.
Punch-Out: Quite possibly the most underrated series in Nintendo history and one of my favorite game series of all time. There is no bad Punch-Out game. I can sit down and play any of the three main Punch-Out games any time I feel like it and still have fun even though I've beaten them all many times in the past. Punch Out Wii was an absolutely phenomenal reboot and thanks to Next Level Games we have Little Mac in Smash, who will likely become my main.
Star Fox: Star Fox SNES and 64 rock. The others, I can give or take. Hope Wii U turns out great.
Pokemon: MY CHILDHOOD. I have trouble finishing the more recent entries, but all of the GB/GBA titles are the best. Gold/Silver are my favorites.
Duck Hunt: The GOAT light gun game. I am still fucking baffled we went the entire Wii generation without a reboot of Duck Hunt other than a Wii Play minigame. Such a missed opportunity. Excited for DHD's appearance in Smash.
ROB: I want to own a physical ROB so much. Never gets the respect he deserves. ROB helped save the industry once! My main in Mario Kart DS. I am glad he is present in Smash.
Mother: Never played Earthbound until it launched on Wii U, but when it did it quickly cemented itself as one of my favorite RPGs of all time. I need to finish Mother 3 someday.
F-Zero: Here we go. I fucking adore F-Zero. SNES and GBA F-Zeros are amazing, F-Zero X was the shit, and F-Zero GX is the best futuristic racer ever made. Captain Falcon is my favorite Nintendo character of all time and one of my mains across every game. Just an absolute blast to play. His combos feel so fucking satisfying. I have thousands of hours into playing Melee Falcon. I am so excited after hearing all the great news around him in Smash 4 and I plan to purchase every amiibo variant of Captain Falcon that ever gets produced. F-Zero UX when, Nintendo?
Animal Crossing: Such a charming series, I love Animal Crossing because it introduced me to a lot of NES games I had never played before as a child. The core gameplay itself is addicting, as simple of a game it is. I love all of the AC games.
Pikmin: Another very underrated Nintendo franchise. Pikmin 2 is my favorite because of all the easter eggs and real-world references in the objects you can find.
Wii Fit: Fun for what it is. WFT is a hilarious addition to Smash.
Dr Mario: Awesome puzzle series. Dr. Mario 64 is a super underrated game on the 64. Love the Doc in Melee, glad to see him reappear.
Xenoblade: Played for about 20 hours or so then interest kinda dropped off. I'll make the effort to replay it someday. Love Shulk though, so it's awesome he made his way into the roster. I'm really feeling it!
Pac-Man: One of the greatest arcade games ever made. I love Pac-Man Championship edition as well. Never really touched his 3D stuff though other than Pac-Man World 2 which I enjoyed. Screw the haters, he's a perfect addition to Smash.
Megaman: I haven't played a lot of the side series, but I love the NES titles and Mega Man X. Plus I just adore his classic character design. Gotta love the Blue Bomber. Another perfect addition to Smash.
Sonic: My favorite gaming mascot of all time. As a Sega Genesis fanboy I am obligated to list the first four Sonic games as the best platformers ever, with Sonic 3 and Knuckles being the greatest ever made. Sonic Adventure series is fun even though some people feel it hasn't aged well. The more modern games are hit or miss of course. Generations was great and I thought Lost World was better than everyone said it was. Was absolutely ecstatic way back when he was confirmed for Brawl.

A question for the Mother fans. Did Ninten get an upgraded look in Mother 1+2, or is the original Mother from that collection just a straight port of the NES title? Does anybody know?

Straight port, although interestingly enough it has some of the edits from the unreleased American version.

Ah. Alrighty then, let the bandana debate rage on. :p

After watching the commercial you have to love Mother marketing. "Guaranteed Masterpiece. Don't cry until the ending."

If Lucas is cut they should do an Alph like thing with Ness and include Ninten and Lucas as alt costumes. Although that Wolf alternate color worries me. If Wolf is cut it rubs even worse that they couldnt make him a proper Fox alternate costume and instead gives him the daisy treatment.

That would be a giant fuck you from Sakurai to all of us Lucas fans, as Ness plays nothing like Lucas.
Honestly I don't even like Ness as I find him harder to play as.

Did someone said bandanna?

There's a reason there aren't any Waddle Dees in Dedede's moveset now, you know.

I forget, did the GBA version of the game still have the "Teddy glitch" where you could
keep Teddy in your party and avoid losing him for good after the robot attack
?

Speaking of Teddy, he's always been one of the characters I'd love to see in Smash in some form, even as an AT. The other, of course, being Giyig himself (Mother 1 version).

I want the Nico Nico stream to show a trailer for Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings.

If not that, then Duck Hunt.

If not that, then the revelation that there are five more characters, and they're the other party members in Xenoblade Chronicles.

This is the one true Teddie.

I want some decent Samus coverage.

I still doubt I'll get it.

in an 8 hour stream :(

To me, the ideal would be to air the Jr. + Koopalings trailer earlier at the Nico event, before it can then be aired again at the NOA Treehouse stream.

I mean, it's not as if these characters don't have an audience on a worldwide scale, so it'd only make sense to showcase it for the sake of the stream monsters on all sides!

Let's look at all the newcomers [so far dammit]. Would you have guessed them pre-E3 2013? Be honest. Don't let hindsight affect your initial guesses.

I'm Really Feeling It!
Pac-Man
Palutena
Little Mac
Mii
Lucina... before all the Chrom talk, I always thought she was locked in to represent Fire Emblem's first playable female Smash character.

A Vision!
Mega Man
Shulk
Greninja... but paired with Chesnaught and Delphox
Dr. Mario... as a costume

RIKI SNEAKY!
Wii Fit Trainer
Robin
Dark Pit
Bowser Jr.
Villager... I guessed Tom Nook not Villager
Rosalina... I would not have guessed before 3D World. I thought Waluigi would get in first honestly.

Jr. + Koopalings makes so much sense. Getting hit with effectively eight playable characters, all at once, is hype overdrive. Perfect for launch!

If you'd told me there would be 14 newcomers I would have honestly laughed in your face. I wouldn't have thought it possible.

Despite the painful, painful loss of Lucas, I'm really pleased with this roster.

Hey, odd question. Would you guys be opposed to getting all the Veteran Poll results tonight in an onslaught of reveals? It's fine if we want to keep it to one a day, but I have a couple of crazy days ahead of me work wise, which will make the posting times awkward. Let me know and I'll make a decision based on you guys' reaction! And, for real, I can make it work if we should just do one a day.

Lucina. I count it because Gematsu lead me astray from my original vision.
Little Mac.

Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel. Yabuki turned off voice chat in Mario Kart races. True artists of their time.

Honestly, I didn't expected any of those except for Megaman, Pacman, Palutena, Little Mac, Shulk and Mii. And yet I'm extremely pleased with those unexpected newcomers.

I think at the least, you might as well release #2 and #1 relatively close to each other, since by then people will probably be able to guess the top spot really easily.

Yeah, I was planning on doing that. That's sort of what made me think to post everything tonight, as Wednesday in particular is going to be a crazy day.
