Assuming this is our starting roster, I would've had Luigi, Rosalina, Diddy Kong, Toon Link, Palutena, Ike, Metaknight, and Greninja as locked characters as well. I would've put Ness in the starting roster though.

I'd lock away everyone that's ever been an unlockable character ever. Unless you STARRED (this counts starter pokemon) in a game, you're unlockable. All 3rd party is also unlockable.

Mario, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Link, Samus, Pit, Marth, Ike Robin, Kirby, Dedede, Little Mac, Fox, Pikachu, Charizard, Greninja, Villager, Olimar, Wii Fit Trainer, Shulk

That's my starting roster that i'd want.

Some will be obvious. I'd be incredibly surprised if Doc isn't beating Classic with Mario or Falco isn't beating 100 man Smash.

Why? He has been unlockable in every game but Melee I think. I love those little pictures saying "Ness, the psychic powered kid, joins the battle!" (Or whatever it said) So I want them all to be unlockable

In Brawl they even unlocked Stages or ATs and music with them... It's just very rewarding.

I wonder if they'll do unlockable alts? Like Olimar is the only option, but if you play with him enough you get the Alph alt. Or even going back to my old theory, you get some stuff for having played certain games. So if you have a Pikmin 3 save file on your Wii U, you get Alph from the start. Don't know how that would translate to 3DS.

If you HAVE to have a carrot to chase, then make it things like clones and alt costumes. Don't lock up unique game experiences. I'd be happy with that. They could even sell a 'fast unlocker' DLC and suckers like me would buy it.

Melee was odd because it only had 2 unlockable vets and a bunch of clones. Mewtwo, Marth and Game and Watch were the only non-clone unlockables, which is comparable to Brawl and Smash 4.

On topic, honestly I'm fine with the starting roster being a bit unexpected. I LOVE unlocking in the Smash series, but hey, the more variety I get form the start, the better.

I have no idea where to start, though... do I just go right to ZSS? Or Greninja?

I get your point, but hardly any game is developed with that in mind. The thing is most buyers love unlockables :/
