Apple announces Apple Watch

Huh? Right handed people wear watches on their left hand. Tim Cook was wearing this one on his left hand.

I know I'm not the norm, but I'm right handed but wear it on my right. It's always been more comfortable to do so for me. Especially true for me when I carry one of my kids which I hold in my left arm/hand so that my dominant hand is free to do things. Thus, it's much easier to look at the watch on my right hand with kids.

Look at these haters.

Just wait until it's out.

This will sell.

Also, GAF isn't exactly the best target audience for this type of wearable technology; especially the fact that it's aimed for fitness in a video-game community.

But not everyone is the same, we definitely have some FitnessGAF bros and bettys, but essentially the correlation of the negativity of this hardware is obviously not for GAF.

Bull shit. I'm going to guess GAF is 90% composed of men ages of 20 - 35, with a tendency for (over?) spending disposable income on consumer electronics and flocking to the internet to generate buzz/hate for said products. I shit you not - we are the target demo here. The taste makers if you will.

I'm waiting for the bus to take me to the gym, btw.

That's what gaf is alright, but it still ain't the target market.

Yeah, but doesn't that mean that I have to have the phone with me while going for a run? :)
Can't wait to see some idiot running with his 5.5 fucking inch iPhone on his pocket wobbling around inside his pants.

Seriously, I have no problem with the square shape so much, although the moto360 is still way nicer. For me what kills this is how thick this thing is, does not seem like a confortable piece that adapts to the wrist and since it's probably heavy it's going to move around a lot. Also, the dial might look nice but I think it should be only optional and give the option to use the phone fully with gestures.

I'll buy one.
Will hold out for some third party bands though, not really digging any of the ones I've seen, except maybe the flat brown leather band but looking on the website it's only available with the smaller watch it looks like.

Also, as people have already stated - not crazy about having to carry my phone running with me. That's why I bought my iPod nano.

I actually think the idea is really cool - mobile payments in particular - it just seems a little too tethered to a phone for my liking.

I don't really wear watches as it is, but if it was standalone like those fitness watches + GPS it would be insta-buy for me. As it is, seems like it's more of a phone-extender, despite some of the cool and some cute functions it has.

What target group comprises iPhone users who are willing to spend $350 on what is essentially an add-on device to their iPhone?

Not exactly clear on the "shower" thing, but I'm inclined to think his was a mistake.

Not a huge fan of watches. If I buy one, I would prefer that it appreciate over time in value (of course only like $5k+ watches increase in value)

People don't want to wear watches.

This is like Apple asking people to pay $350 to start strapping an armband around their elbows for some questionable tech functionality.

$350 for that ugly thing? And you need an iPhone to use it (which renders it useless, since it doesn't seem to do anything the iPhone can't do)?

I'll pass.

There's also a lot of people who work out who don't need this kind of thing, at least not at this price.

Worse than that, you need an iPhone 5 or better. iPhone 4 and 4S people be damned. UPGRADE YOUR SHIT BITCHES!!!

If the iPhone is necessary then why would you be able to swim with it? I just think the bigger problem is that it must have an iPhone. If it was stand alone with the iPhone expanding its ability, that would make sense.

yeah the only reason I would get this would be for exercise purpose so it not having GPS is a deal breaker for me because I don't like to run with my phone on me. Wouldn't be a problem on my bike rides because I stash my phone in the saddle bag (or get a mount)....but still it's a bummer.

A rectangular clock face makes more sense for the UI. A round face would be a bit wacky with the interface they were showing.

Doesn't Samsung also do the whole "you need a Galaxy phone to use our smartwatches" thing? It's a horrible practice and it needs to stop, especially at that terrible price.

Would you rather have a separate cell phone service? I think it's assumed that anyone in the market for these devices will have a smartphone.

Aesthetics are up for debate, but the actual construction on the Apple Watch is ridiculously high-precision. Here's an industrial designer geeking out on some of the processes Apple's using.

While I agree it's good to get excited because it looks very well-made,

Looking at the Watch, the levels of precision required to manufacture this thing are astonishing. Beyond aerospace/med work.

That is some hyperbole right there, especially considering recent advancements in both fields.
