WSJ: ''Mojang to be bought by Microsoft'

Damn, now that'd be a big coup for Microsoft if they can secure the Minecraft brand. That's exactly the type of series they need to define their XBO in a more appealing way for consumers.

Hope they don't do it because Mojang and Minecraft need to be on as many systems as possible, and this is just another Microsoft attempt to deprive most gamers of a series because they're too fucking lazy to make their own properties sing. But, hey, it'd be fascinating.

So what games do they have besides Minecraft?

Man, they can gather up all of talented Japanese developers working on mobile/smaller projects that would gladly accept offers to make console games with one percentage of that money. Meh :(

Microsoft buying Mojang for 2 Billion when their ONE BIG HIT has been released on everything already? RARE 2.0.

HAHAHAHA! *cough* HAHAHAHAHA!

It's already released everywhere, dumbasses. They cannot make a smart move to save their lives. So many other studios to invest in.

Scrolls, I think? Did that come out? I don't remember.

Now Minecraft: Pokémon Edition will never happen.

It was never happening, but it would make truckloads of money

For more than $2 billon dollars that seems like too much money to spend on basically one IP - mine craft but I guess given the way minecraft sells on all platforms making Minecraft 2 an Xbox/maybe PC exclusive will make them a lot of money/sell consoles. Still the deal seems a bit silly to me.

Also this coming from WSJ is as good as being confirmed.

Still I think with that kind of money it would have been better to invest in internally.

Is MS buying this to capitalize on the existing Minecraft mulitplatform market, or will they cut off the non Xbox versions of the game? Cause if its the former, I think its a bad idea for both parties.

Since other platforms are already released I'm sure they'd just leave them and continue to collect revenues. I wouldn't expect to see any further support for non-microsoft platforms and they probably mainly are after exclusivity of future sequels.

They would probably cut support for all versions not on a Microsoft platform and get Mojang working on a F2P sequel.

2 Billion though? After the 1 billion investments in first part, the $400 million deal and the multiple third party funding. Damn, who said Xbox doesn't have access to that MS money b/c of their performance.

I suspect the SECOND they buy this company, Minecraft 2 will be announced with Halo themes, Sunset Overdrive themes, Forza themes.

They're going to multi year this biznatch

So there plan is to make a guy a Billionaire and expect him to work. How about that take 500 million and spend it directly on New IP.

This is only buying a studio in the loosest sense. This is MS buying Minecraft.

Is it worth 2 billion? Ehh, it's arguable.

I don't get the purpose. Minecraft is already on every console. It's already sold crazy amounts. Unless MS is planning on capitalizing on the brand with Minecraft 2.0 exclusive to XBO I don't see the point.

Actually, now that I say that, I completely see their point. Prepare for Minecraft 2.

Notch was a huge criticizer of Windows previously though. Not sure why he would do it for the money, he clearly doesn't need more.

I mean Mojang is probably never going to have another hit after Minecraft so the deal is a little late. They would be making money from every system for Minecraft though.

Doesn't anyone have the patience to not sell their startup company these days?

Shit's becoming so cyberpunk.

1.) Microsoft would corner the youth demographic, the one demographic that they've had a hard time to get.

2.) Notch would be fucking loaded with all that dosh.

The company behind Snapchat?

I keep expecting Facebook to buy them, i can totally see them throwing a ton of money at Mojang to put Minecraft on Facebook.

Yep. Minecraft 2, exclusive to Xbox One.

You're off by a few digits there.

Honestly just dont get this. 2 billion for a single game thats already available on everything non-Nintendo.
