I hope we get this demo. Would make sense, since it just seems like a huge troll to have a big Treehouse stream showing them play the game for hours while we have to wait for months weeks.

This would also be a nice way to tide me over until the Wii U version comes out without having to buy the 3DS version. May as well just play the demo of the demo instead of buying the full demo

It's possible but it won't be possible for the Smash 3DS demo because it requires the latest firmware.

Well there's some people who I'm pretty sure could data mine on the latest firmware (like smealum with his magical hack that didn't get released yet) but I don't think he has a Japanese 3DSs. I don't think there's a public way for people to dump games that require the latest firmware, since the only way a 3DS hacked the publicly known way can even play them is using a Gateway card. (Even if you're just using the cart for region free playing of carts, or only using the latest emunand firmware.)

Although things like this demo should hopefully push for someone in the scene to work on a way for people to change the region of their 3DSs completely so they can have international eShop access. (Not even for just rare occurrences like this, but for patches people have to download for imported games.)

Nope, not holding down.

I'm riding the side of Battlefield with Mario's up b and he passes the ledge and lands on the stage. Same with Megaman.

With Link, he grabs the ledge half way through his up b animation.

I could be doing something wrong here, but it seems pretty consistent. Maybe it's a Link specific thing?

So it's possible that different characters are able to grab the edge at different points of their upbs? Did they try to balance that or maybe just a bug?
