Media Create Sales: Week 36, 2014 (Sep 01 - Sep 07)

Probably the last we'll see of Castlevania. The way Konami has handled the series for the last decade or so has been pretty sub-par. What a way for the series to go.

You forgot Dynasty Warriors, Pirate Warriors, Gundam Warriors and North Star Warriors.

What can I say? I love me some Musou.

Yeah, you're right. How many of these games do they make per year? This studio (along with Traveller's Tales and their 123712893 Lego games per year) must be a really boring place to work at - at least if you're responsible for the gameplay as opposed to the graphics, in that regards, both companies are probably nice, because you get to work on so many huge franchises (Zelda, DQ, One Piece for Omega Force, all of Warner's film franchises and a lot of Lucas Arts' for TT).

It's 6 months old port of PS3 game. That debuted with 120k units first week.

This is true, of course. But it's also true it did awful.
...And, actually, the game had an around 160,000 debut, when you include the Vita version.

Xbone second only to 3DS. Hope everyone that was predicting a failure enjoys their crow.

In what bizzaro world is 25k on launch week a success? The PS4 managed more than 10x that amount when it launched. Hell, the Dreamcast and PSPGo managed to do better than that.

It bombed, hard.

Yep, 3rd Musou bomba on PS4 in a row. Koei dumped Wii U after just 2 but hey, different rules just seem to apply when it's PlayStation.

To be fair all of those games were late ports on PS4. The first PS4 exclusive musou should do a lot better. That plus Koei and Sony are close together. They have been for a long, long time.

I think we all know we want Toemon's insight on Xbox One's debut, right? :P

So that´s the pre-TGS show (+ plus new releases this week) effect... and to think some actually believed the rumour that PS4 sold 18k or 3 times more than last week.

Instead PSV saw a noticeable decline, which actually is deserved due to the "non-show" on their pre-TGS show, but likely unrelated.

3DS still selling quite well, despite the new3DS announcement two weeks ago .

Looks like a pretty sad debut for Samurai Warriors 4. Do those games usually sell well in Japan?

Yes, these games usually sell quite well and this performance is quite bad even for a port on its own, and even worse considering that Sony systems/PS4 is supposed to be where the fanbase is/will be in future. Quite interesting that despite several bombs of Musou games on PS4 like this one it´s still getting every Musou just in blind faith.

Samurai Warriors 4 was released 6 months ago:

[PS3] Samurai Warriors 4 {2014-03-20} (Koei Tecmo) - 149,068 / 246,662
[PSV] Samurai Warriors 4 {2014-03-20} (Koei Tecmo) - 43,545 / 83,352

PS4 owners don't want regurgitated re-re-re-releases of Warriors game:

[PS4] Dynasty Warriors 8 with Xtreme Legends {2014-02-22} (Koei Tecmo) - 13,576 / 39,371
[PS4] Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate {2014-06-26} (Koei Tecmo) - 7,129 / 11,852
[PS4] Samurai Warriors 4 {2014-09-04} (Koei Tecmo) - 10,672 / NEW

They want some of that Western superiority.

[PS4] The Amazing Spider-Man 2 {2014-09-04} (Square Enix) - 3,509 / NEW

Ok, not all types of Western superiority....

Gaist Crusher God may be the biggest bomba of the week, IMO.
Perhaps worse than XB1
I mean, how much did Capcom expect it to sell?

i don't get it. what is a good number for a 6 month old port which has already released on the higher install base platforms and no standout differences on a new platform which is struggling at the moment? do you think tecmo expected higher sales than what they got?

What Wii U games are coming out in early 2015?
Famitsu shows that the Lego movie game is the only 2015 Wii U game with a release date (Jan 22). That's it. Other than that there is XenobladeX, Zelda, Splatoon and Mario Maker scheduled for Wii U in 2015.

I really wish MC would hurry up and figure out a way to cover mobile gaming effectively. It would paint a more complete and accurate picture, and would also slow the number of people coming in to MC threads decrying that the Japanese gaming market is dead.

Geist Crusher God may be the biggest bomba of the week, IMO.

Capcom's mission statement for Gaist Crusher: http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/news/html/e130402.html

Capcom Announces the Start of a Major Project for Children's Content
- Alliances established with leading providers of content for children -

Capcom Co., Ltd. (Capcom) is pleased to announce the start of a new project for children's content. As part of the project, Capcom has decided to begin selling "Gaist Crusher" in the winter of 2013, which is a completely new game for the Nintendo 3DS™.

The important theme of the new project is the creation of new Capcom content for children. Elementary school age boys are the primary target of the project. With emphasis on armors, transformations and collections, the project will utilize the cooperation of companies in a broad range of fields such as games, comics (manga), anime, music and toys. Overall, this will be an expansive cross-media project. With the number of children in Japan declining, Capcom plans to use this project to attract interest in new brands and firmly establish these brands by continuously launching a diverse range of content.

The "Gaist Crusher" game, which will be the key element of the project, is an action game that draws on two Capcom strengths. One is expertise in producing content for children that was gained from Capcom's "Mega Man" series. The other is the high-grade multiplayer capability that generated a strong response for the "Monster Hunter" series. Capcom plans to leverage these strengths to produce a game that excels in terms of both its worldview and game playing characteristics.

For cross-media activities associated with "Gaist Crusher", Capcom plans to start by using manga in the "Saikyo Jump" and "V Jump", two magazines published by Shueisha Inc.. Cross-media will also include an anime project produced by Pierrot Co., Ltd., music produced by Avex Entertainment Inc., and toys called "Gaimetal" from Bandai Co., Ltd., all linked to the new game.

Capcom is determined to continue meeting the high expectations of consumers by creating highly original new games that take full advantage of its outstanding content development skills. Furthermore, Capcom will use its multi-use approach for content with the aims of maximizing earnings and playing a role in energizing the entire content market.

That Xbone face plant. I honestly thought it would at least match the 360's opening numbers.[/QUOTE]

Come on, let's be real here. Market has changed. In the week 360 launched DS alone sold three times as much as all hardware combined. Not to mention 360 launched in December.

3rd late port in a row.

Both Wii U Musou were also late ports. I'm not seeing much difference, except one system was dropped almost immediately while the other gets literally every future Musou announced for it.

My fanboy senses are tingling.
Going a bit far. I wouldn't call Koei fanboys even though they clearly hold Nintendo and PlatStation systems to different standards. ;)

Not so sure about PS4 but ast least for Vita I think Sony said they'll give huge discount for royalty fee from third parties for secondary platform (Vita) if primary platform is PS3. Perhaps they're now applying same practice to PS4?

Didn't know about reduced royalty fees. I remembered only about the tools that help bringing PS3 titles to Vita. I suppose it's a possibility.

It's kind of hilarious treating the brand new console as a "secondary platform" and the older ine as the "primary" one, but in the case it's a great move in order to help the console getting some ground, support-wise.
