Destiny |OT2| The Last Guardians

So I just started Destiny and I have to say I still love it. Not very far into the first missions that were in the Beta but still having a ton of fun. Can't really put my finger on what it is in this game that I like so much. Looking forward to moving on to new worlds.

Destiny reminds me of Vanilla Diablo 3. I'm not there yet, but the idea of running through the same strikes and 1 raid over and over doesn't sound particularly appealing, especially when the loot game seems to be pretty tame. It needs loot 2.0 and some kind of randomized strikes

Agreed. The games biggest issue is the lack of loot. The foundation for greatness is there, it just needs to be reworked a bit. Hopefully the expansion brings a ton more loot.

If that is true then i guess it will take most raider 4~5 weeks to gear up on vender
legendaries about 4~5 hours a day. And with the way strike missions are done i wouldn't be surprised if you only got rewarded at the end of a raid and don't get loot from mini bosses.

I hope it is like that, though right now I'm relying on a friends copy/account when I visit until mine comes in. I wish it was available from the start, but it's only a week's difference.

Good, because the game is fantastic as it is at its core.

All it really needs are things like party up options, optional matchmaking for story missions, some kind of local chat when in the tower, clan support, etc...

Then just keep adding new content: strikes, raids, seasonal events, contests, etc...

If Bungie build in the right way the game is literally destined to be incredible.

Time will tell.

I don't mind much of the core gameplay. As I've said before, areas are beautiful, gunplay is fun, and the gameplay loop that I enjoyed from the Alpha and the Beta is intact and better with now having the full game. I'm also confident in the post-game support and hopeful that they'll add in a lot of the social features.

I just don't see why no criticism of anything else in the game can't take place.

Are the public events borked or something, I haven't run into a single one since I started playing the game. I even hung around Earth where the spider tank dropped during the Beta and nothing.

Same. Finished the story. Done some Patrol Missions on Earth and Venus for a while at a time (doing missions, getting bounties etc) and not ran into one. I remember running into one in the alpha or beta though.

You need to stay in one area for a while and you will see them. They are on timers and if you just run between areas you won't really be lucky enough to see them.

One thing I don't get is why so many people are disappointed by the game but were head-over-heels in love with the beta and Alpha.

I have not played the game but maybe someone who played both and loved the beta could explain. The gameplay in the Beta was amazing, the world and atmosphere borderline majestic.

Here I am with my unopened Collector's Edition not playing because the community I trust more than anyone (NeoGaf) seems so damn divided and disappointed. Words lile "flop", "failure", and disappointment are quite rampant here.

Because they weren't holding anything back like most thought.

"Oh there's probably stuff missing, the story will make a lot more sense in the full game." Nope

"Oh, those missions were ok, I guess. They must be saving all the good ones for the full game." Same thing, different setting (gorgeous though)

"Can't wait until I get all the cool items" Drop rates are shit house. I found 2 rare items before 20

I still like it though but I'd be lying to myself if I didn't think all those things prior to playing the game.

You would figure Sony would be killin' it with sales of this gane, but my store is selling XB1 copies on a 2:1 basis right now, anyone else in retail getting similar results?

I played the alpha and the beta and really liked them both, but I'm disappointed by the main game. We thought that the beta was offering just a small slice of the type of missions the game would contain, but it's turned out all of the missions consist of you simply defending a ghost while it hacks a computer.

The worst thing about Destiny... was gamestop trying to upsell me call of duty advanced warfare on destiny's midnight launch.... fuck you try to sell me CoD.... fucking gamestop....
Yeah fuck a videogame retailer for trying to sell you a game of the same genre you were buying. Fucking assholes trying to sell you things you might want.

A lot of PS4 sales likely went to the Bundle. But I still expect the PS4 to come out on top by a fairly healthy margin.

Its exactly like the beta. Thats why. The story is horde mode, A to B, shoot, stop shoot, waves, shoot. Thats it. Other than that in my opinion game is awesome and with friends the "story" is still fun.

I wonder if Bungie doesn't have tweaks to loot, public events, raids and content in general up their sleeve. This is an online shared world so I'd imagine they have a ton of control over what they present to us or have us play over time.

They could be sitting on more missions, weapons etc and we'd have no clue about it as yet (even before expansion packs).

honestly those words get dropped in any thread. If you built up a 50-hour galactic campaign voyage in your head then you'll be disappointed. It's about a 15-hour campaign with plenty of fun to be had with strikes, cruising around exploring, gear grinding, pvp, and raid to come. If you think that sounds like something you'd enjoy, then just play and find out for yourself.

I never said it did. I said if you played the beta and got hyped by the beta then I really don't see how you should be dissappointed since the main game is the beta plus more.

I actually agree that those of you paying attention to every thing bungie said pre beta with all the crazy promises. I could see you feeling let down or dissappointed.

I'm enjoying the game, but they strongly implied during/after the beta that once you leveled up, you would want to come back to the ?? areas, and locked doors. I haven't heard anyone taking about those extra areas being accessible.

They should have said to come back in December if It's DLC. I've been to the Russia vault via glitch and it's even populated with enemies and a dead ghost.

I could be wrong and that is just post end game stuff, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

I don't expect mission content outside of public matches, if you meant anything beefier than that.

With that said, the post release support of this game should be really enjoyable. They've done well in past, more concrete in form games than this, so it should be really healthy support in a game as versatile as this.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that the alpha/beta (in my mind, anyway) were to represent a demo of the game, that is, it was just the tip of the destiny iceberg. In reality, nothing really changes (apart from the settings of the various planets), the mission structure becomes extremely repetitive. Not to mention that none of the feedback they received was actually implemented into the came (e.g. social aspects).

Bungie promised the world and delivered an island. Personally, I need to stop giving into the hype. The marketing for this game was unreal.

Just had a couple of disconnects from the tower on X1. Anyone else experiencing issues? Was playing in the crucible just fine for the past hour. First time I'm having issues.

So GAF, I've had an issue where I received a copy of Destiny on Amazon.ca that I thought I had canceled. However, it was only $52 with tax, when compared to the $75 it would cost normally.

Should I play it or return it? While I enjoyed the beta, I didn't feel like it was worth full price.

Finally lvl 20!

Look at all of that blue. You must be cruising...saw you at the same place as I was earlier today and I only have one blue (can't even use it since the perk doesn't match my build.

Keep it, game is very fun even with some grievances.

This game is extremely popular. While there are many people who have legitimate concerns and reasons why they dont like the game, you have to consider there are many people who wont for the sole reason that it is extremely popular. If you liked the beta, play it. If you didnt, return it

Only you know the value of your money. For me that's not even two hours of work. For you it could be different. Is 20$ under retail would be a good value to you ? if so keep it, otherwise return it.

Great news, there is a reviews thread up for all the trolls to go party in (shouldn't we move over to the community tab to avoid all the people that are frustrated that we don't agree with their negative minds)

jesus, this venus cutscene is awkward

Lol good or bad jesus?

Glad there is a review thread now.

Again I have nothing against people's negative opinions but some of it is clear trolling and it adds nothing to the topic in here. Hopefully they can vent it all out in the review thread.
