Yeah, if a character cannot be mirrored realistically, like Link, he/she only faces the camera in one direction.

My guess is that Villager and Link don't have it because their models are not symmetrical: in Villager's case, that would mean flipping the 1 in the shirt around. Link would end up switching his shield and sword, too.

Then again, Greninja.

Yeah, it's only characters who are in some way asymmetrical. Link, for example: he always holds his sword in his left hand, so he can't be mirrored. With someone like Mario, who's perfectly symmetrical, it doesn't matter.

Glad it's gone, it was a stupid idea.

It's not gone, it's just not universal. Plenty of characters still have it; everyone else never had it to begin with.

I think those endings for Smash 64 were an addition of the localized versionthough. Checking footage of the Japanese game, there didn't seem to be any ending screens.

Speaking of colors, can anyone tell me what this Toon Link is based on? I assume it's a classic version, but we've already seen the NES look and the SNES look (the latter without pink hair though).

Why would they do that? Leaving out the pink hair defeats the entire purpose of a SNES alt.
