The A button moved from being down/center to the far right on the classic controller. It is not the same.

wow, i fucking hate Palutena.

Don't hate appreciate. People getting all riled up cause of Palutena's taunt reminds me of those articles where crazy otaku's would get mad at there waifu idols when they found out the did something not so pure, like kiss her boyfriend.
or take a piss
in this case your waifu is this perfect image you thought up or w.e trying to project on this cartoon characters who were made up. Plus Sakurai breathed life into Pit and Palutena after like 10+ years he can basically do w.e the hell he wants with them.

OMFG, brings back terrible late 90's styles and font memories. Some really good ones from Link, Samus, Ness, and Fox offset by some cheeseballs.

"Yoshi. You are great." But why does it say Yoshi twice?
Kirby's was done using Microsoft PowerPoint.
And look at Pikachu's. Wait don't. It's 90's-terribull.
And lastly, let's look at Donkey Kong's aka an Artist's first time in Photoshop circa 1998. Donkey Kong floats on top of a jungle background with a random white outline. Da fuq!? And what's behind him? A HUGE transparent reflection of himself looking back into nothing with his huge ass. DK has been dead the whole time, guys.

I'm up very late tonight but the bolded made me laugh until I had tears in my eyes.
Thank you.

I don't like Palutena not because of the taunt but because I never really liked her as a character and I also find her default specials boring.
I could not care less if Ridley makes it in or not.

The only one that doesn't match is the N64 controller. What are you on about?
The A button moved from being directly under your thumb to the edge of the controller. The rhombus shape is the same, but the nominal button layout is moved around to resemble the SNES one more. Which would not be a problem except the main button you use in Smash was the A button. Having to reach to the side for almost every attack is problematic after being conditioned otherwise by Melee and Smash 64.

There's also the fact that the jump buttons move from being to the right and up in the first two controllers to left and up.

Good thing custom moves will likely be tournament-legal.

So I'm assuming that the "leak" isn't real after all? It was just some guy on some forum somewhere spouting conjecture?

Doesn't everyone do that? Why did NeoGAF take him seriously in the first place?

Not gonna lie, the stripper pole taunt kind of makes me more interested in playing Palutena. And you've gotta pick the top tiers anyway.

I guess our brains identify the shapes differently and we have different muscle memory. I moved freely between the GC and Classic Controller/Pro without a problem. The 3DS reads no differently to me than my existing experiences.

Edit: And this could not possibly matter any less because both games have custom controls.

I'm not a tourney player, I just like playing with items on, and all stages and characters on random. I don't intend on customizing moves, and nor do any of my friends.
I don't hate her, I just don't like her, and if other people do then that's perfectly fine.

Anyone else notice they got rid of the mirrored 'characters always facing the camera' thing they added and made an update about?

Glad it's gone, it was a stupid idea.

We were discussing Smash 64 on the Virtual Console.

See, you say this until you have a character you REALLY like except for ]that one crappy move that you never use.

It'll just be: "Oh gosh, Little Mac is Great! But I hate his crummy recovery...."

And then after that it'll be: "Wow, I love how strong Little Mac is! ...I wonder how hard I can make him hit?"

And then you shall be one of us.

Only a handful of characters mirror. It's to prevent characters like Mario, whose reverse side depict no characterizing features, from facing away from the camera for 50% of the match.

Almost all fighters do NOT mirror and this has always been the case.

You're wrong on both counts. I just looked up a video of the demo, and Mega Man was standing still, facing the camera, both ways.

I'm watching a stream right now and Villager and Link's backs face the camera.

Also in the scans out there of the alt costumes it shows Link's back at the camera.

Maybe only certain characters do it?

EDIT: Right, only a few do it. Well if it looks natural enough for me not to notice it then I guess it's fine.

It's still there. It only applies to certain characters, though. Mega Man faces forward no matter what, for example, whereas Robin you can turn around to see the pattern on the back of his robes.
