Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

I tried Snes9xTYL 4.2 but it was slooow (about 19fps), I then tried to install Metal Slug X (I used PSX2PSP on my .iso, then Vita Homebrew Preparer) but it froze 138Menu.

Is this par for the course with Vita/PSP homebrew or am I doing something wrong? If so, I might not bother. :(

I've only ran stuff on a PSP since I actually like having fully PSN access on my Vita. But, yes sadly this is pretty much my experience. Most PSX games did work fine so it might be something with 138Menu. But for emulators, SNES didn't run that well. You could play games, but they were slow and some graphical effects weren't correct such as transparencies. If you enjoy NES and Gameboy games, sure the emulators are fine, but if you are looking for a portable for emulation I ending up settling on an original Nvidia Shield which is able to emulate the PSP, Dreamcast, and has spotty Gamecube emulation.

A new VHBL exploit is going to be announced soon. Wololo says the exploitable game is 'surprising', so it may not be the usual shovelware crap that you usually have to buy.

So some drama in the ps vita hacking scene. Apparently Zetai Hero Project, which enabled VHBL on 3.18, also had a kernel exploit that was being developed. They intended to keep the release of the exploit files until FW 3.30 released but apparently the developer got pissed off by some of his testers and now intends to publicly release it before 3.30 comes out.

Not happy I missed this.

Oh please don't kill the vita, we just fell in love :(.

I can already emulate anything I want on my phone or PC.

Vita's homebrew scene is so convoluted and doesn't offer native Vita games. It won't kill the system

You can't kill what is already dead anyway.

There is also going to be a kernel exploit released for Gladiator Begins. I don't know if Z.H.P. is still on the store or not, but Gladiator Begins apparently is.

It's not going to kill the Vita. There is no native Vita hack yet. All the ones so far are just for the PSP emulator.

goddamnit, another game i'd want to buy.

I searched for ZHP earlier this week to see it was gone.

kinda hurts when the games aren't shit!

Gladiator Begins looks like crap.

Is it worth updating to 3.18 if I'm on 3.01 with the Persona 2 hack?

I do miss Remote Play, but I have a feeling I'm going to lose it with 3.30 soon.

Immediately downloaded Gladiator Begins to my Vita because of the drama on wololo. I'm not entirely sure what this actually allows me to do. This isn't actually native PSV homebrew but rather PSP stuff via the PSP emulator on the Vita right? Not really an excuse for my ignorance, but I got the device a week ago and really gotta read up on the homebrew scene.

As far as I can see, homebrew on the Vita is not just only PSP stuff, it's also locked down to the performance and RAM used by the first edition of the PSP. Am I right on this?

Yes, you have a good understanding. This exploit will give you (basically) the same options you would have on a custom firmware PSP. It loads into the same OS you would see on a PSP.

I just want to be able to play birth by sleep and crisis core on my vita.. Kinda getting desperate here..

Crisis Core (Japanese with subs, the best way to play it imo), Type-0 fan translation, BBS, MG Acid 1&2, Grand Knights History and a few Japanese visual novels. That's all I want this exploit for..

You got a pretty good understanding of the 'scene' so far. And you got really lucky, since most Vita 'hacks' are only for VHBL, which only allows you to emulate SNES, Gameboy and such. This exploit is a kernel one, which also let's you emulate PSP stuff. Exploits like these are extremely rare, which is why so many users are pissed it got revealed a bit early. It is definitely worth grabbing since it could take even more than a whole year for another kernel to be found and released.

So buy Gladiator Begins if I want to use this upcoming exploit? Also, will I have any problems getting new monthly PS+ games if I do this? I assume updating the firmware is a no no after the exploit is done?

You can still claim your PS+ games but once they release 3.30 you won't be able to download any games or access the store. You're left with whatever you have on the stick and whatever you have backed up on your computer.

Looks like every PS Vita has a hidden "Package Installer" (mainly there for devs probably) and SKFU has managed to expose it for use for people like us.

What is this good for?

You can install DRM-free apps and demos. It will NOT enable piracy.

I've only got the Japanese ebook reader app to work on my US account. The Pocketstation app didn't work (probably has the DRM).

I can't even get QCMA to show the packages for the package installer. It'll connect to the system but not show the packages in the package folder for the package installer on the system to install.

I just want the fucking eBook reader, Sony. Why can't you give that in the US!?

Solved: After installing QCMA, put the packages in the package folder. Do not have the system connected. Refresh database. Then connect the system. Apparently it has to "update the database" so it becomes the new CMA for the system. :/

Yeah. Installed. Now to figure out the Japanese wordings to use it...

I'm new to the whole Vita/PSP exploit thing. All I know is that I need to buy Gladiator Begins to use the exploit. What do I do after that?

(Sorry for the potentially dumb question)

Is CrunchyRoll DRM-free?

I've been on 3.01 with TN-V, I'm wondering what changes have happened to Vita firmware since then besides that handy disk space checker in CMA's front page. Probably nothing worth updating for?

I'm bored with my Vita and that's the first happy news for the Vita I'veheard in months.
CCan't wait to emulate and do crazy stuff with it.
My hope is to use it as an Nvidia Shield to stream PC games to it.

Here's how I just did it:

Install CMA, let it sync with your Vita using the Content Manager on the device, you now have PS Vita/PSAVEDATA in your "My Documents" folder. In it is a folder with a seemingly random name.

Get the exploited save file with the "TN-V" Custom Firmware (uncheck the download manager option, it's malware), either EU or US. The European version is just a folder named "ULES01515SAVE00" with some files in it. Put that folder in the aforementioned PS Vita/PSAVEDATA/*RANDOM NAME* folder.

Download the official PSP firmware, rename it to "660.PBP" and put it in the "ULES01515SAVE00" folder (or US equivalent) which is now located in the seemingly randomly-named folder.

Go to your Vita > Content Management and copy the save file via Applications > PSP/Other after choosing PC > Vita. Exit the content manager, launch Gladiator Begins, load the save file in the game. When loaded, select the "Item Box" option. Your Vita now shows a white or green screen. Hold "R".

You're now in a menu. Go to Advanced > Install 6.60 files. Go back once it's done and choose Exit. Congrats, you can now do whatever you could do on a PSP with a custom firmware on it (e.g. homebrew).

To launch the PSP environment, just do Gladiator Begins > Save > Item Box again. You won't see the menu and instead boot directly into it.

Nice to see something new even if it leaked before 3.30, which would have been good to be on. Bought Gladiators and also Borderlands 2 which has been better than I expected on a Vita, until I met a bug that halted my progress.

The package manager is pretty cool to, will have to see if anything significant comes of it, but still nice to be able to play demos of foreign games (I'm want to try Gundam Breaker before I purchasing it).

Install CMA, let it sync with your Vita using the Content Manager on the device, you now have PS Vita/PSAVEDATA in your "My Documents" folder. In it is a folder with a seemingly random name.
People using any exploits should be using QCMA now, it is basically the successor to OpenCMA and will allow you to transfer between PC and Vita without updating to the latest firmware.

Can anybody tell me how to go through the email package manager thingy?

I tried to send the "<a href=”psgm:open?titleid=NPXS10031&#8243;>OPEN PKG INSTALLER</a>"

and "psgm:open?titleid=NPXS10031"
None works

Try putting your email in here although I'm not sure if it works - http://zload.net/pkg/

He's got a script running to automatically send the email but I never got anything in my inbox/spam/etc. Wololo is doing something similar but you need an account to the forum.

Wow they should of waited until PS TV made it out in the US so the new FW would include that system :(

If anything I'd rather have that PSTV hacked.
