XBL: Games with Gold

I might download Reach again to see if my opinion on it has changed, but I definitely wasn't a fan last time I played it. Not a big fan of this month's games, don't care much for Monaco. Well can't have a good month every month, here's to hoping next month is good.

I downloaded Halo 3 when it was offered through the program, and didn't get past the first mission for lack of interest. Is reach worth giving another try ? (I'm really trying to "get" that serie, but it doesn't click).

Reach is somewhat, although not drastically different. Give it a shot, what the hell.

I found Reach's SP to be a much more enjoyable experience than 3, so it doesn't hurt to give it a try.

I suppose I will, then, thanks for the advice (backlog be damned :P). There are very low chances I'll get to play it in co-op though.

Normally I would say, "I wouldn't mind playing the co-op with you."

But...I don't think I'll be able to step away from Destiny anytime soon....

In co-op then yes I would say so otherwise it would just become a complete steamroll. But I think Normal is absolutely fine for solo.

Heroic even on Solo is not that hard IMO plus the enemy AI becomes much more fun to fight against, Normal is such a boring experience when compared to it. :P

Super LTTP on Reach and I'm digging it so far but what the hell is up with the ghosting effect? It makes an otherwise good looking game look a little blah.

It's caused by the Temporal AA technique Bungie used on this game and it is indeed dragging down an otherwise beautiful game. An option to turn it off would've been nice.

I want it to click, but I'm not feeling it. I dig the concept, but can't seem to execute well enough to get passed the opening trial.

Same here, I tried to like it but it didn't click with me at all. :(

Darksiders II will be the game for October 16th - 31st. Great fucking game and perfect for Halloween.

If you can sink a little more time into Halo 3 I pretty much promise you will dig it. Just get to what i believe is the 3rd mission, Tsavo Highway, and I think you will really dig it. It is an awesome vehicle combat mission and the game takes off totally from there.

Reach will have a similar slow burn to start, but it has some truly awesome levels with GREAT variety
THERE'S A SPACE COMBAT LEVEL!!!!

TLDR - Halo games can start a bit slow, but they ramp up pretty quick and get awesome. Also playing with a friend is even better!

What is it with these new platformers that they ONLY have couch coop?

Come on, both Guacamelee and Chariot don't offer the online coop option. LAME.

By the way, Chariot seems really a dull of a game.

Chariot is wonderful as a couch co-op game though.

We need more slow paced games.

Agree on both fronts. Slow pace is sometimes good to wind down with. And there's nothing better than a game that I can play on the couch with my lady. From what I've seen, Chariot might be a good test of our relationship.

At least Chariot is new. Giving away Super Time Force was a slap in the face to people who supported them on day one.

Why?

I got my 1000 gamerscore out of it and they got their money. It didn't take much to think it would end up on GwG sooner or later and I think its great a game I loved got exposure to a lot more people that might not have tried it.

No-one got slapped in the face, perhaps if you bought it the day before they announced it but thats the risk you take.

I bought it day one, along with several other titles which were on gwg. Blame yourself if you regret buying on day 1. I know I don't regret it at all.

I got my 1000 too. It's a slap in the face because they didn't give me anything and they gave a bunch of people who didn't buy the game something. Reward your loyal customers instead of giving away shit to people who weren't interested enough to spend money.

You got a game which you could play at anytime you like and is yours forever regardless of whether you have XBLG or not?

If you were annoyed about the PC release having extra content (which I think is coming to XB1 but I'm not sure if it'll be free or not) then maybe i'd understand your point, but you did get something, you got it earlier and you got your moneys worth for however much you played.

If you're concerned about games going on Games With Gold, then my suggestion would be to not buy games (ones only available on the Xbox Store, anyway) to avoid the possibility of it being free later. I don't really see what Capy did wrong here at all, its not like you didn't get anything at all, perhaps your reward will be in the extra content thats added being free (maybe they will make it free for people that paid for the game or cost a little for those that got it on GwG I have no idea if thats even possible)

This is the industry these days, its the risk you take when buying, we all know the possibilities of a game being free later, it depends if you can wait or not for which I personally wasn't prepared to.

Jesus Christ. The console has been out a year. They give out free games, so they will inevitably be less than a year old. In most cases, there will be some people that bought the games already, so they won't benefit as much. It is what it is.

It's not Capy's fault. I have no reason to be mad at them for wanting more exposure. I'm perfectly happy to give them money. It's MS and Sony who are the bad guys. You know how they reward people? A stupid number next to your name.

So alternatively, Sony and MS should give zero games for free because it makes them the bad guys?

My intent is not to pile on a particular individual, but it's probably going to appear that way. I'm more irked at the general sentiment that seems to be growing whenever a game hits GwG or PS+. The slap in the face comment really rubs me the wrong way. When I saw that Super Time Force was going into GwG, I was actually happy. I had purchased the game on launch day because I was intrigued by the game's concepts. I loved it! I was happy to give my money to the studio earlier. I'd have $15 more dollars in my Microsoft account, sure, but now everyone had the opportunity to pick up this excellent game. I never once had any negative thoughts, except for the fact that I would not gain a free game that month (and that was just at level: bummer).

I would rather an excellent game I already purchased be free for GwG than a crappy game I hadn't purchased. Keep up the quality. Because no matter what, someone out there has already bought the game.

Edit: Can we talk more about Crimson Dragon (a game I wanted to love but found the controls absolutely maddening) being free for the third month in a row?

Your concern, which is the concern of many people who buy a lot of games, could be easily solved by what I've been saying since the Xbox One launched. MS should offer consumers a choice of the free game of the month -- offer two or three games of equivalent value. That way, even people who purchased and played a game already wouldn't feel left out of a freebie.

Literally nobody would lose in this situation. MS could probably pay about the same to publishers if they split downloads, publishers/devs would get exposure and sales, and consumers would be happy. It would also be a significant point of differentiation from PS+ that is much more consumer-friendly.

Omg. Are you the same guy that was complaining about this month's PS+ offerings and saying that everyone should've played all of these games and that the other games were on steam, etc?

It is neither Microsoft or Sony's fault what you buy. They are not giving us brand new titles each month all the time. That was never the deal. There's always a big chance that they're going to give old stuff away for PS+ and GWG. Whenever we do get a new game (or at least new to the console), that's usually some deal they struck with the dev I'm sure. PS+ and GWG are not for new games. We don't give them that much per month. I sure don't expect to get brand new games for $4-5 a month.

Your expectations for these services are very unreasonable.

Now today is 10/15. Second round of october free game is coming.

When we'll get this free title?

Edit: Oh well, Second round is just live.... but It's not selling on my marketplace. dat mistake... :(

Happy at the number of ppl still playing bad company Vietnam. Had some great 8v8s and war tapes is the GOAT sound setting I'm all of fps

I got 12 months gold tonight in anticipation for my X1 arriving next week. Went on the desktop site to queue the X1 games with gold which went smoothly, but when it comes to Darksiders 2 it says I need to add a payment method and only comes up full price. Any idea why?
