Welcome to any MMO

Everything at endgame is a timesink

Question is if you are enjoying it

This does not have any of the key features of an mmo.

In fact, when I heard that the reviews were delayed to make sure the world was populated, I expected something like an mmo.

But no, other than a handful of people, the world is lifeless.

Look, I was one of the people to openly say that this isn't a MMO...but let's not act like it isn't pulling plenty of features from MMO's.

Jesus I've avoided Destiny threads since the beta ones as I wanted to go in blind, where has all the hate come from?

No, they're complaining that you're 'required' to get a certain level of arbitrary farmed gear. There's a difference. In WoW (And most mmos, this is just the example that was given before) there's nothing barring you from going into a raid besides finding a group. With random matchmaking there is a minimum because it's random and they're trying not to let complete scrubs in, but it's very generous.

There's a big difference from mobs being levels ahead of you making it impossible, and just giving them more health/damage so that having mroe gear is useful.

I think the big difference its six duders, even wow does matchmaking for ten man content based on gear score. Hell the original ten mans in vanilla wow were gated by a chain quest which in itself was a proof you could do all the previous content. Ubrs Lbrs were good fucking times tho.

Hey fuck destiny wo wants to play some vanilla wow.

To this day gear is only there to prop up those that aren't as good, serving as a natural balance: The best players in the world accomplish monumentally difficult tasks with very little gear, while over time other people become more geared and are able to do the content at slightly less efficiency.

The level cap. Same as this one in Destiny.

Yeah try to find a group in vanilla wow that would take you on a raid in green gear brehs...

As if there were random groups doing MC LOL

You needed to be in a good clan to go

Odd, I'm playing the game, I don't hate it. Seems like the majority of the people on these streams are having a good time.

you dont agree that it has big issues ?

non existent story, lazy dialogue, no mission variety, not enough content. thats just the stuff i can remember right now

im having a lot of fun with this game but the hate is justified 100%

Fuck this. I am level 24 but have almost played non-stop since launch...just have t gotten good drops. Even if I were a 26 there would be no way that I could get 6 people together to do this thing. In what world do we live in where matchmaking isn't an option?

Makes me want to trade the fucking game in. I see no reason why this raid should be taken into consideration for any review given these circumstances.

The saltiness over Destiny is almost impressive...

At any rate, I tried the Heroic Strike w/ Arc Damage modifier the other night... let's just say I've got a bit of work to do before attempting this raid, lol. I love the challenge of this stuff though! Will be watching a stream or two of some people fighting through this...

Once again, I compare this game to the genre out there (which isn't much, considering Bungie made the first FPS MMO on consoles...):

- Non-existent story: Please fill me in on the deep story of World of Warcraft and Guild Wars. Not the lore. The story that's told through playing the game. (World of Warcraft even added a feature that lets the text of the quests pop up instantly so you can click right through it without wasting any time! Doesn't sound like a game that's pushing a great story out... yet the game is still fantastic.

- Lazy dialogue: I don't even know what this means, but it seems like it ties into the first point about the "non-existent story." It's structured like an MMO. You don't go to an MMO for the story and dialogue. It's all about the grind, the loot, the PVP, and the dungeons/raids.

- No mission variety: It's a shooter. There isn't mission variety in most First Person Shooters. Did you call it an issue for Killzone? Or Gears of War? Or Call of Duty? Or BioShock? The list goes on... most shooters are just "get to an area, kill duders. Kill duders on the way to an area. At the area? Kill duders." A lot like Diablo 3 in that sense as well, but people aren't too upset with that game for "lack of mission variety."

- Not enough content: Feel free to name me all of the shooters with more content than Destiny from the last generation. I'm over 30 hours in now and I still have new loot and a new raid to dig into. On top of that, I've got PVP in the Crucible as well.

I'm not trying to be rude or anything like that, don't get me wrong. But I feel like people went into Destiny, even after playing the Beta, expecting it to combine the best of every genre of every game... into one masterful package, and that's never going to happen. If you didn't get consumed alive by the hype, but rather went in expecting the game to be the Beta + more planets, PVP, raids, and loot... then I can imagine you are probably feeling super satisfied about the game.

Destiny isn't without it's faults (why do I have to go to your website to interact with my clan, when we're playing YOUR game?! What the hell is that about?), but you also have to realize this is the foundation of the game. Just like World of Warcraft, FFXI, FFXIV, Guild Wars... the world is going to grow and grow with each expansion and new version they put out. Just like an MMO, in time, the universe will be expansive and you'll be along for the ride to watch it grow. Personally, that's my favorite thing about MMOs, and I look forward to it with Destiny as well.

I'm pretty sure they will open up the content as they have more and more stuff in the game and come up with s painless way to match make groups to play an instance for hours at a time,

you dont agree that it has big issues ?

Of course it does. I've openly discussed the many issues that I have with the game...you even named some of the issues I have.

I don't play games I hate, it seems counterproductive. The thing that is getting old, is the hate train that rolls into any Destiny thread seemingly trying to suck any and all fun out of the room.

Odd, I'm playing the game, I don't hate it. Seems like the majority of the people on these streams are having a good time.

I'm not crazy. The rest of the world is. ;)

I'm playing alot too (mostly Crucible) but the game is fucking terrible in anything besides visuals and base mechanics. It has a good foundation but it's obvious they half assed alot of the game.

It's frustrating to the vast majority of people, even people like me who are dedicated enough to get to level 24, but will never be able to get together 6 people or don't want to put in the amount of team work/time dedication required.

That said, I gotta respect the absolutely monstrous balls Bungie have for the game design they've committed to with Destiny. This is sold as a mass, mass market product, but they've catered everything about the game design directly to the hardest of the hardcore, and that takes an absolutely massive amount of balls. I also kind of can't believe Activision, Sony, and Microsoft all got behind this so strongly as the next big thing if they knew exactly what kind of game it was. All I can say, is I'm really happy this kind of game exists. I just think they should've been much more transparent about what they were actually offering.

Heheh, watching the stream of this raid makes it look pretty fun. Saw the guys beat the Templar boss and now they are trying to find their way through the Gorgon labyrinth.

I like how they assume that everyone that plays Destiny has six other friends that all play and are all level 26.

I get the feeling this is more a social experiment. They know you don't have 5 lv26 friends but they expect you to find people for and through the game. This is an odd choice but I am eager to find out how the spirit along players is once I reach lv26. I can imagine the vibe to be very good because you find together as a group of strangers (actually I just found Bungies link to Lord of the rings...) to go on a quest.

One thing you need to know about matchmaking is that it ruined WoW.

I def see what they are aiming for here, but the game lacks the social functions of wow to make it work. There is no way to meet people here.

Hey fuck destiny wo wants to play some vanilla wow.

If by 10man you meant UBRS, it wasn't gated by anything, you needed one person with a key, which was a reward from a dumb quest that involved clearing a lot of unrelated shit including BRD(which was lvl 52, so at that point it was more than trivial). You also later had attunement to MC to use the teleporter, and maybe you needed attunement to enter before that too I'm not sure but I remember the entrance was in BRD, that was back when instances didn't have caps so you could 40man BRD or scholo and shit. Vanilla wow at launch was such a mess. By the time AQ40 hit it was a lot better but most people forgot how awful MC and BWL were for a ton of different reasons.

Anyway can't really compare to vanilla wow, it was like 10+years ago or whatever, want to compare to at least Cata or MoP wow if anything.

What's absolutely stupid is not having clan features integrated into the game.

Right? Especially when they have all that shit working out of the game.

Because I like the pvp which is the game boiled down to the base mechanics? I'm certainly not doing Crucible for the story, although you'll probably tell me that if I go read their pvp lore on their website that it's next level.

Nope, I haven't played a single match of PvP. Side note, I haven't read a single destiny grimoire card.

Before matchmaking, cross real play bs wow was a real good game.
Matchmaking is just a term here, it doesn't necessarily mean Destiny's raids need a queue, but as you say the game needs something social that people can find others that want to do a raid

Party finder, a recruitment chat channel, a little title on top of your name asking for group, anything but well, nothing.

, and now this raid is out the difficulty gets raised people are complaining its to hard.
no I get the impression the problem is qualification for the raid requires too many boring repetitive hours after the first 10, and the RNG can string it out even more.
the raid doesn't look hard, what is hard is getting to level 28 without falling asleep and having 5 others, with no life, who are willing to do it with you, all at the same time.

I'll be a high enough level to enter once Bungie decides that Legendary Engrams shouldn't result in blue loot.

So much this. I just had four purples drop in one Strike and they were all junk blues. I don't know who thought the way to make the endgame grind a blast was to hide the good shit behind two levels of RNGs, but they were mistaken.

I am... haven't had much time to, level 14, done a few Crucible matches, a few Bounties and finished the Moon... and really enjoying it.

well, besides being repetitive as fuck, having bullet sponges enemies, having RNG loot/engrams (I so love doing level 22 strikes and getting lvl 16 rare items. Seriously I just spent 1 hour and a half doing a strike and all I got was a lvl 16 rare helmet).

I'm not really having fun when I'm consistedly the top player either in crucible or strikes and I get nothing for it while some random does nothing and gets two legendaries. One of them being the most broken weapon in the game, an auto rifle. Something that never seems to drop for me.

I don't have unlimited time to play and hope I get something. I get around 1 hour or 2 per day. And when I finish something and am the player who contributed the most, I'd like my reward.

Imagine you working on a project (be it for work or school) where you do all the work yet get none of the credit. Your partners get the promotions or high grades and you get nothing or a C.

I don't think the raid will ever be for me , I don't have hrs to spend and I rarely do voice chat let alone find 6 friends , so it kind of sucks that not all of the game is available to me.

So long as they can pump out unique strikes and more interesting patrol like missions I will stick with the game though .

At least there is stuff for the hardcore guys to play and hopefully they provide matchmaking and other benefits for those who just ant to play , give me shittier rewards I don't care , I just want to explore new areas which he vault seems to be .

So BitmapFrogs, myself, GutZ31, Chainshada, UnwrittenZero, and a 6th are in the Raid and we're at the first big Boss. We've gotten a piece of Raid armour each so far and are pushing forward with progress :)

It destroyed any community there was on servers so yeah...

So they shouldn't add it to Destiny because it's going to destroy the servers communities... Most people always say how matchmaking has ruined wow, and yet the game kept growing after it was added. Hell for a ruined game it's still doing quite well.

So um I can power level your account for a small fee.

Its ironic how they market a Game for the mass market but exclude the mass market from the Game, both at the same time.

Destiny and his specially the Lauch will finde a nice Place in History of Videogames.

Two different things entirely.

It can and does destroy a servers community but it brings in the masses.

the raid is gonna be there next week. and the week after. and the month and half a year and year after.

No one is forced to grind their life away or rush anything. people who were grinding and rushing and are burning out are people who said to themselves they HAD to do this today on day 1. they are hardcore as hell about it.

I probably won't be doing the raid for like 2 weeks or maybe a month at most. who knows if i will ever actually finish it.

there is no reason to rush, it's just added content that doesn't go away.
