When you do a strike, you automatically have voice chat. You get to both see how they perform and judge their demeanor. Do some strikes and don't try to recruit people dancing in the Tower.

This isn't true. You don't get voice chat in Matchmaking strikes unless you invite the person to your team (even though they're already on your team), they accept, then they load out of the map and back in, then you can finally talk. Then you need to do that with the other guy.

I will have to live vicariously through these streamers, 'cause that shit does not look fun to do at all haha
I watched some streams and the guys playing were complaining the who time. Using words like boring, annoying, stupid, etc. Why would anyone play this?

You have to be kidding me....

It sounds like a clan is the way to go. I'm already part of the GAF clan. Time to get my buddies to join.

This would be acceptable if the clans actually meant anything right now. At the moment clans are just a glorified friends list and message board, but from what I can tell there's no way to join up with other clan members. The same process I would go through to get in a game with clan members is the same process I would go through if I wanted 5 people from my basic friends list.

Does anyone, actually, you know, read the OP?

It says that

Bungie added that it is unlikely players will finish the raid in one sitting. Your progress will be saved for one week, but to resume your mission where you left off, you need to follow the same Fireteam leader.

you need to follow the same Fireteam leader.

Wow seriously? Who at Bungie thought that was a good idea? Or is this a platform problem?

But then you'll have to get the same people together again to resume it, right?

Nope

alright here is now Raids work.

1.) THE FIRETEAM LEADER IS THE CONTROLLER

2.) WHEN FIRETEAM LEADER LEAVES RAID, THE PROGRESS IS SAVED

3.) FIRETEAM LEADER CAN RESTART RAID BACK FROM PREVIOUS SPOT WITH NEW FIRETEAM IF THEY WANT

It is all dependent on the Leader. This is what I understand from what Bungie states about Raids.

How old are you?

I only ask because in my experience it is incredibly difficult to get 6 people, who have families, jobs, other responsibilities and live in opposite coasts, together at the same time to do anything, let alone a raid. I understand what Bungie is trying to do but it feels forced. If the raid is in fact that challenging then it should promote cooperation regardless of who you are playing with because ultimately lack of teamwork will result in failure.
It just takes a little effort. Six people really isn't much. I've lead consistent raids of 25 people before, and while it's challenging, it's absolutely possible. If getting six people together to beat your heads against something that requires a whole new level of teamwork that includes problem solving and strategy isn't something you are interested in doing, then don't do it, it's as simple as that. You shouldn't have to do every single piece of content in the game to get enjoyment out of it.

I'm not familiar with MMORPG or big missions like that, but what would prevent 6 random people to be smart, communicate and find a boss weakness together ? It's not like knowing each other makes us smarter.

People don't talk in random coop on consoles, they just do their thing, even in games where it was easy to communicate like Mass Effect no one talked. There's absolutely nothing to stop them doing so, but it wont happen.

But since this seems to be the majority of effort they put into their pve end game content...

Because odds are, it'll take multiple tries (and many hours), and be even longer if you have to reteach someone that is new to the raid. Easier to have the same group of people come back every time and play.

Not to say it couldn't be done with a bunch of random people, but then everyone will need to stay on long enough to finish it, cause good luck regrouping, especially if you have to rejoin the leader's game to continue on where you left off.

Oh okay. Thanks

Yeah, it's true and it is absurdly dumb. The difficulty of communicating with people in this game is absurd. I'm not sure who thought this set up was a good idea, but they were about as wrong as they could get. The ONLY way to use voice chat in the game is if you actively invite someone into your team. It is quite possibly the worst design choice I have ever seen in a socially driven game. It would be like only being able to chat with people on your friends list in WoW.

THIS.
I keep opening up Destiny and despite the reviews, I'm really REALLY enjoying the game. I just get bored quickly because I'm always playing alone and would LOVE to chat with randoms to form bonds as I play. I'm not joining some strange fire team just to talk.

I get it. auto-grouping randoms in some matchmaking program sucks. However, JUST GIVE US THE OPPORTUNITY TO CHAT WITH RANDOMS DURING THE GAME so we can add them to our personal friends list (by choice), fire teams and clans!!! From those people, I can choose (when we have the time) to take on RAIDS, level up, or do whatever.

I'm in the same boat as Kill37r. NOBODY I know has a current ten console. I have family and responsibilities. I'm happy to get an hour or two at night on Destiny. Going it alone SUCKS. Would love to meet other guys/gals in my situation to shoot the shit, level up a couple of stats, and eventually get to RAID something.

Last night, I was playing on the Moon and really enjoying it, but wishing I had a co-op group to play with. I'm never going to be into the PvP stuff. Bores me silly.

Bungie needs to fix this. Really.

Yes. I'm a broken record. That said, I can already tell from what I've played that I'd enjoy what Destiny a lot - quips from the community aside - if the campaign wasn't forced solo for people in my situation.

Wasn't there vicinity chat in the beta tho?

Hmmm, I dunno.

According to the website and Bungie, they state " the fireteam leader is very important, choose wisely "

I think the progress is saved for the Fireteam leader. So yeah, if you have multiple friends who are Fireteam leaders on strikes, then you can be in multiple strike teams and do multiple Raids.

I'm guessing the fireteam leader loads up the raid back to where they left off and then brings in the members. I havent read anything about the whole team being saved.

This makes sense.

Nope, new friendships will not be earned through war.

I've been watching this Raid for some tome now. God is it random. Suddenly they all die for unknown reasons. I dont get it.

It seems the great raid content they were talking about only 1 percent of there audience will be able to complete.

on the first day.

My god people the game has only been out a week. Do you think Bungie expects everyone to be able to do this already?

The flip side of that coin is that match making should be included for these events so that those of us who don't want to spend hours coordinating to actually participate have that option. I've had no problem using advanced teamwork with randoms to finish strikes. No idea why this wouldn't be available for raids as well. This is one of the most interesting aspects of the entire game, but it's so difficult to get a game together that a lot of people aren't going to experience it.

This whole emphasis on fireteam leader is fucking stupid.

I thought i had six people ready but im bracing myself for everyone fighting over who gets to be fireteam leader tonight and the whole thing falling apart.

You have to be kidding me....

It is patently insane.

I actually think that that this is a big reason the raid doesn't have matchmaking. It looks like it would be impossible without voice coordination. Also it might be the reason that all the Strike bosses don't actually require any real tactics beyond "don't get shot, deal with adds" since those can be handled on an individual basis pretty easily.

It would've been nice if the higher level Strikes had introduced some more complicated mechanics to prepare us for the raids.

Wasn't there vicinity chat in the beta tho?

Nope.

I can't believe how many people are crying about this raid being level 26.

It's an END-GAME RAID. You're not supposed to do it right now, except if you're playing hardcore. Keep playing, farming, shooting things, and eventually you'll reach level 26 and be able to experience this raid.

The game's only been out for 1 week and people expect to do everything.

But since this seems to be the majority of effort they put into their pve end game content...
For now. I hope that they make the Strike fights more interesting in the future, but that would also require them to put voice support into matchmaking, which obviously needs to be done anyway.

Why is it 26? Why not 30? Maximum end game.

After watching some people play it, it does look fairly disappointing. I was hoping for some fun mechanics like in a real MMO since it's allegedly so involved, but the most involved it gets is really just switching weapons for the situation. Maybe I haven't seen it al yet, but I was hoping for things like platform hopping to get away with a one hit kill.

I may do one in the future to see if I can get the trophies, but it's beginning to look like I'm not missing out at all now.

They are complaining because of Destiny's horrid loot system and the random, sometime futile, path from 20-26. (At least i hope they are b/c you're right, it's END GAME for a reason) Bungie just needs to fix post-cap leveling and drops as far as the bitching issues go. (They have LOADS else to fix as far as the full game goes however)

I seriously think their decision to remove chat from strikes for mm is the reason the content is so uninspired/boring. Can't expect people to be able to coordinate for interesting gameplay if they cant even really talk to each other.

I feel like this game was designed for the lowest common denominator, and that bungie has little faith in player social skills.

The game is pretty fucking hard on just regular ol Strikes. Curious to see how absolutely brutal Raids are.

Watching the stream: Pretty fucking brutal. Just in the 20 minutes I've watched, they've wiped about a dozen times, and are still trying to figure out what's going on.

Also, does anyone know if this is actually harder than the weekly lvl 28 nightfall strike because i find that hard to believe.

Was able to solo the lv. 24 Heroic Daily mission when at lv. 24. Was intense as fuck and fun.

Did the Heroic Weekly Strike with another gaffer and someone else. We got to Septic Prime and the other dude disconnected after we died twice.

We ended up finishing without another death.

Tough thing about the Weekly Strike is there is no 2nd life. No respawning. You either get revived by a teammate or not at all. Makes you very careful, very aware of the situation.

Cant wait to gear up a bit more for this Raid!

I REALLY WANT AN EXOTIC WEAPON. Want that hand cannon so damn bad.

HA just said the same thing after you quoted me.
