Final Fantasy Type-0 HD coming on March 17 2015. Download code for FFXV demo included

TGS is already delivering as far as I'm concerned :)
All I need is some new Persona and Bloodborne tidbits and I'd be satisfied.

I'm sorry, but it seems like you said "there's no evidence of development hell" and then described in detail exactly how this is development hell and why it's development hell.

All the waiting for engines, the restarts and new phases of the project, the move to new platforms and new engines... describing how the project is just bigger and more ambitious than other games... you realize that is the textbook definition of development hell, right? Do you think Duke Nukem Forever was really all that different? It's all the same development hell checklist.

This is factually incorrect. You're comparing a game that was all but canceled, moved from its original company, was adopted and then developed by a extremely skeezy team, and then released as nothing more than a quick nostalgia cash grab. That is development hell.

At worst, you can say FFXV's development was put on hold... but where exactly are the internal conflicts that suggests brimstone and fire? Once all things are said and done, the game will have been released on better hardware, become a mainline FF game, and potentially save PS4 in Japan.

Square Enix seems to be testing the water with this FFXV demo. I just hope it doesn't mean another delay for the game, especially if the demo receives serious criticism.

I can't imagine being in the shoes of Nomura and Tabata, with all the pressure mounting over them if the demo ends up with negative reception.

I think this is similar to how DLC usually comes shortly after release.

This will be a representative slice of a much awaited game. They better make sure its the best it could be.

I also think this Demo will be buyable separately later on ala Ground Zeroes.

But they won't announce this now to make Type-0 more attractive.

Imagine what Naoki Yoshida must have felt. As games get larger, the fallback onto the directors just increases exponentially.

I just realized that release date is exactly 6 months from today

I was originally going to buy the Japanese version since I assumed it would release there sooner, but might grab the English version instead.

I was about 9 years old when the game was first revealed... crazy to think that by the time the game releases I'll be in my Senior year of high school.

There's already been a thread about what has happened to people and even the world during this game's development.

I'll probably be in my 3rd year of University when this game releases.

I personally believe this game being development for so long has actually be a good thing in my life. It feels like a tape measure I can see time pass on. While things pass, this keeps going on. Its a bit comforting, especially in my dull, sad life. I'll probably get way too emotional when I see it on store shelves.

He was almost in tears when ARR released.

It was very spontaneous and you could tell he was really ernest about the pressure the project has had on him.

Best of luck to these people.

I think it's holding a lot of us back. It's definitely holding me back.
I feel like I have to know what's going on with this major thing in my life regularly and it's not healthy.

I just know that even if the game sucks, when I play it for the first time, it's going to be an unforgettable experience. I won't just be beating a game.

I can't believe it, so it exists after a...

A representative from Square Enix could not confirm that the demo will be available the exact same day as Type-0 HD, but it will be coming to both PS4 and Xbox One when it does release.

-_-

Can't wait for the anger and tears when the demo only releases a year or more later.

Well then.

On one hand I think FF XV had the impossible task of being developed in a timely fashion after all the changes in its overly long maturation. Obviously it was never a "let's finish this in three years" kind of project. Once it got announced in 2006, the toothpaste was out of the tube and it couldn't be entirely shelved without a lot of rumors regarding its nonexistence (which it got plenty of anyway). Thus its timetable was unforeseen, and will likely set some very undesirable records.

Honestly the only reason I have left for its astoundingly early announcement is....

Amazing. I never thought this game would ever finished. It took SE 10 years to offer a demo. Hopefully 15 releases sometime in 2015.

4 of my favorite series are getting releases in 2015 if XV comes out in 2015

- XV
- Bloodborne
- Persona 5
- Metal Gear Solid V
And you can almost count Smash since it's close to next year.

You can add Xenoblade X, a new HD Zelda and Type-0.

2015 will be insane.

Wait, Type-0 HD is releasing in March? That's early. I thought it'd take 2-3 years like FFX HD.

Kind of sad about FFXV possibly releasing next year. What are we going to do now that we can't make fun of its vaporware status anymore? Actually play the game?

Oh wait there's still the Last Guardian. nvm

The Duke Nukem Forever that was cancelled and was dead - before Gearbox picked up the project from the grave - was already a development hell story for the ages, with many twists and turns like the ones you described for Versus. In fact, the point where Gearbox picked it up is when it could be said to have left development hell. Gearbox had it for a very short time and shipped a product like a real grown up videogame company.

And where exactly are the XV team's "internal conflicts", you ask? You just described them. Waiting for engines, a sprawling game design that can't lend itself to a game that you can ship, platform shifts, engine shifts, a complete rebranding of the project? Those are the conflicts right there. You can't ship a game, because "reasons". It doesn't mean the producer is an incompetent drunkard who conflicts with his staff.. It means because of company politics, technology issues, and feature creep, you can't ship a product after nearly a decade.

Will we be better off with the game we get in the end? Yeah. Because they can't fuck up the FF brand, yeah, they're going to keep plugging away until it's good. And I will enjoy the hell out of it, on shiner hardware than they originally planned.

But make no mistake, this was a flawed production. It certainly wasn't what THEY wanted in ~2005 when they started it. And even if this game is a gem, nothing about it's production gives me hope for the future of the FF production schedule. Are we going to wait a decade again for XVI? Even 5 years? It's madness. This is not a videogame production schedule that anyone wants... Not internally at SE and not for its fans. And meanwhile other game companies ship trilogies in that time, and generations grow up with no idea what flagship FFs even look like.

We should not be excusing XV's production even if the product is ultimately good. It's a disaster. Call a spade a spade, because everyone involved wants better.

Famassu what would it take for you to admit that FFXV has been in development hell? Like, on top of all the other evidence we've had which shows the game has struggled, what could Square Enix possibly announce which would make you accept that internally they are unhappy with how things have been going?
I'm not saying the game hasn't struggled, just that the evidence points out that it's mostly the kind of struggle all games of this size often go through (some trial & error, noticing something isn't working out so they change it, it taking longer than expected to add that final layer of polish etc.) and a lot of it has to do with stuff outside of FFXV's actual development. It's a fact that Crystal Tools, XIII, XIV 1.0 and XIV ARR have all affected the development of FFXV and had those not been such problematic projects, FFXV could very likely be in a better shape if not even released already.

FFXIII was a game in development hell. They worked on it for over 3 years without nothing to show for it until a year before release. Last Guardian is in much worse development hell, the last time we saw it is almost 3,5 years ago. When Nomura & Co got to actually dive into FFVsXIII's development after creating some initial prototypes & pre-development and after being forced to help finish FFXIII, it didn't take them more than half a year to show the first screenshots from exploration, then a few months more to show a teaser of gameplay and then a few months after that to have a 6 minute trailer with gameplay & shit, then half a year later they had advanced far enough to enter full development, then the world was fully traversable a few months later etc. From early 2010 to late 2011, development seemed to be advancing fairly well with the resources Nomura was given. Then FFXIV ARR became a thing that sucked SQEX's resources dry and FFXV became a current-gen exclusive and they couldn't show their progress mostly because Sony & MS were hiding their next-gen consoles. It's hard to show games on consoles that don't officially exist.

I'd say the more accurate thing to say is that Square Enix as a whole has been in hell and the consequences of that have affected the development of FFXV more negatively than anything related to FFXV's development itself (as much as a big AAA games development can be).

After all this time, i'm shocked we're close to getting our hands on even a sliver of this project. I wonder what the end product will look like?

I'm hyped to begin with for such an early type 0 release(they did the smart thing and didn't announce till they were almost done), but to get a demo for 15 too? I'm all over it.

So... why didn't they show the game for over a year then since last E3?

Does it not matter that the original source of this info, Game Informer, pulled their article? That means the whole thing is bullshit, right? Clickbait that they later realized will get them into some hot water

Other people who know about it confirmed it. It's real.

GameInformer wanted clicks. They're too big to make such a stupid mistake. It's frustrating.

No.... it means they published the article too early. It was clearly news that was supposed to come out of TGS

And also why is this stuff kept secret? What all does this secret society of secret keepers know?
