With DriveClub on the horizon, what's next for Evolution Studios?

MotorStorm, pls. Pacific Rift is still one of the best racing games I've ever played. Apocalypse was good too, but a slight step in the wrong direction IMO as it moved the focus a bit from the driving to crazy shit happening. It was fun, but PR was a better racing game.

Or WaveStorm. Wouldn't mind that at all.

I think I'd just want DriveClub 2 personally. Fills that honest, no nonsense Simcade void quite nicely. Though I'm assuming a new GRID is being made for the next gen consoles, which I'm also looking forward to.

Wouldn't say no to a next gen Motorstorm either,

I expect Driveclub 2 for the most part, although I'd like MotorStorm RC 2 as another little digital game, and unless Sony has farmed it out externally then I hope there's room to put a new Wipeout into development (especially considering there was reportedly one quite far in development when Studio Liverpool was closed).

1080p, 60fps, thick swamps and dense flora, welcome to the jungle

Gonna play PR1 again and see how awesome it was.

A logical evolution would be RALLYCLUB.

Offering a mix of offroad locations and tracks inspired by WRC, RallyCross, Rally Raid, Dakar, etc..
A vehicle roster consisting of a great selection of rally legends from all decades and classes

and boom we might have a spiritual successor to Evo's WRC games and a bit more.

Evolution had the idea for Driveclub for years and thought it was the right time to do it. Sony said okay.

That is all.

Even though that does make sense, I still dont understand why that got greenlit over motostorm.

I can only imagine it was greenlit on the condition they make a new one next.

Every Sony studio seems to be getting the chance to do a new IP I understand that, but all have to release a sequel to their most popular one first.

Evolution seems the only exception.

Hopefully something smaller. Like a Wipeout game or Motorstorm RC. I don't even care if they just make re-hashes of old Wipeout-stages and focus on netcode and matchmaking in order to get it out fast. We're in dire need of something fun from them.

They have an incredible engine for something like Motorstorm. My guess is that they're already planning on doing something. Running start on their next game.

Really looking forward to whatever it'll be. They haven't let me down so far.

How would vehicle balance work in an open world Motorstorm though?

Still I'd like to see them goes crazy and do Motorstorm World Tour, deserts, jungles, volcanoes, snowy mountians, other terrain that I can't think of, all in one game.

DriveClub 2 if DC1 is really successful. Closure if it's a mega-bombahz-flopz like Motorstorm Apocalypse.

Pretty much.

Although this would be amazing.

I'd go along with that. A decent rally game has been hard to find in recent years.

Count me in for a new MotorStorm. Apocalypse was OK, but I'd like to see the series return to it's roots. Maybe with dirt and jungle terrain inspired by the first 2 games.

Like it.

Open world Driveblub in the mould of Horizon, but without the driving in people's back gardens and smashing plant pots and clothes lines would be nice.

But actually thinking about now, after 30 secs or so...It HAS to be a new Motorstorm!

I wouldn't mind a nex gen Pacific rift or wavestorm type deal one bit either. Combining these two with the desert visuals from the initial e3 2005 reveal would be just perfect.

Even though that does make sense, I still dont understand why that got greenlit over motostorm.
The sales of the series tanked after the first game. The first game did well (probably due to being a launch game), the second one sold way less but still ok and the third one didn't sell well at all. Not sure if either Sony will want another potential flop in their hands or Evolution risking their existence on another Motorstorm.

My god. The ps3 really was a beast. That looks phenomenal. Imagine a new gen version of this with more mud and first person view. Match the initial reveal trailer but in the jungle. Holy shit. Day 1. And if we aren't getting that then a remaster or remake of the motorstorm games. Guaranteed buy.

Stil don't understand why driveclub is a thing over a next-gen motorstorm.

Does wipeout and Motorstorm just not sell or something?

The first 3 Motorstorm games were not big sellers, and I personally felt each one regressed slightly from the previous game.

As much as I would love a PS4 Motorstorm, I suspect Sony just doesn't see it as a wise investment.

A new Motorstorm please.

Or this.

Pacific rift was probably the best pure arcade racer from last gen. Such an amazingly fun game.

Apocalypse I also really liked and thought was super beautiful but it wasn't really motor storm. It's a shame what happened with its release date.

They will join Zipper Interactive, Bigbig Studios and Studio Liverpool.

Sony doesn't need a second racing studio. Evo can't produce a hit, as it seems. Should have tackled a different genre or at least a fun racer like Jet Moto, ROLLCAGE (great Sony IP. Sony should revive it) or something like Wave Race.
Future looks grim.

No. Sales were medicore. Which is the reason why they are working on a new IP/Driveclub.

Guerrilla Games should do the same with Killzone and put the franchise to rest.

I highly doubt that driveclub will sell or review well, the videos that I have seen have not impressed me but I would love to be wrong, since I do love me a good racing game.

Not sure what Sony will do if the games receptions isn't as good as Sony wants but I wouldn't be surprised if Sony didn't give them yet another chance, which would of course be unfortunate.

I, however, would like to see another good Motorstorm (maybe a sandboxy/free roaming Motorstorm) with a dash of over the top physics like Just Cause 2 or similar :)

But Motorstorm Apocalypse sold like crap, didn't it? Partly because of the whole tsunami delaying the game in most markets thing. Once it was actually released it stood no chance (and in Japan it was NEVER released, right?). I got my copy at launch though.

Well, let's first see how DRIVECLUB is upon release. I'd rather Wipeout, a game I haven't played since the release of Wipeout HD than Motorstorm.

Enough with all that MotorStorm talk.
The last two PS3 games flopped big time.
It would make more sense to revive a fun racer (or any other older IP) like Rollcage, than making another MotorStorm. The IP is dead.
People rejected it.

It did have a first person (well, hood) cam, and it was the only right way to play it (and the other titles in the series). So fast and immersive! The third person cam didn't feel as awesome at all.

The third game had no chance to not get rejected though. Damn you, nature!

I would LOVE to see another motorstorm running at least close to their ps3 reveal trailer. Imagine having the interior detail of driveclub but with mud, water etc all splashing onto the screen while fanging it through a jungle!

I don't own a PS4 yet, but I would hope they would move on to something other than a sequel to driveclub.

Motorstorm Apocalypse was amazing, Give us a futuristic one!

I just hope they survive after Driveclub.

A new open-world Motorstorm would be killer. Make it happen, with a hella lot of customization options.

If not endless post-release support and sequels for DC, I expect something other than Motorstorm. Let's face something about that series: it was all they did last gen and there were five MS games squeezed out of it during that time. It wasn't big seller, so I don't expect anything other than 'remasters' while Evolution does more commercially viable titles for Sony, helping to balance the lack of GT and lack of more arcade-style racers on the platform. I want a return to rally.

There is a disappointing lack of Jet Moto in this thread. Evolution would be perfect to resurrect the old PSone series. Hover racing(similar to wipeout) mixed with their destruction and ability to craft lush landscapes like Pacific Rift(for all you Motorstorm fans). Throw in a simple trick system like ATV:ORF/PURE and maybe some customization and it's all set.

IF Jet Moto just isnt in the cards, then maybe they could try their hand at recreating the magic that was Rallisport Challenge.

Instead of going for the same old formula, I would like to see Evolution do a jet ski game. Show us their skills in designing water physics, tracks etc and make it look as realistic as possible, not cartoony or arcadey.
Fantastic lighting, coastal races, shallow waters with reefs, racing in a [Perfect] storm with massive swells, high winds and ocean spray........

Zup I-Lo long time no see.

I would love to see another Motorstorm game from Evolution Studios, but i'm leaning more on the setting for the first game rather than Pacific Rift and Apocalypse.
