Final Fantasy XIII on Steam October 9th, $16; full trilogy by Spring 2015

I want to believe that this isn't going to be a lazy port. I want to.

it wont be. it's being optimized for S-E's Dive In streaming service for their games. because of that, the servers have to be able to run multiple instances well. expect a solid port

*or so i've heard

Semi-related question for PC-GAF, but I'm building a computer and I'm only using an SSD for my primary storage, as it's mainly for University work. I have a 500GB USB 3.0 external HDD I'm using from the PS4's stock HDD so it'll be 5400RPM put into this enclosure.

My question is, will installing and running Final Fantasy XIII (and other big games like Skyrim) be a viable option if it's run from the external HDD?

Yes, if it is connected to a USB3.0 port. Otherwise it might be slow.

Well, that'll mean it'll be optimized but it doesn't necessarily mean they'll add in a lot of graphical options. :P

Hmmmmmm tempted now due to mods....my luck and timing sucks lol suppose it will depend if its got a higher frame rate and is based of the ps3 and doesnt have the 360 compressed stuff

I wouldn't be 100% sure there would be mods. Sure, FF7 is modded but I've heard FF3 and FF8 were almost, if not impossible to mod.

Well it's region locked, so you'd have to mess around with proxy's to add it to your account.

It also has a run time lock too, so you'd need a proxy to run the game.

Probably a bit of a silly question but still; Run time lock as in I'll need to periodically connect to the internet to reactivate the game?
I work at sea, so anything that needs repeated internet access is pretty much useless to me :(

That's disappointing to hear :( im still unsure what to do. Damnit If I didn't just rebuy them because of the SE i got I'd have bought already lol

it has been done and the sequels as well when they get put up and i get cash.

People likes Final Fantasy. It's already at #2.

Also guys, XIII-2 isn´t a bad jrpg. At all.

It's mechanics are sound. The story is just as terrible as FF13's though.

The entire FF13 saga is a narrative failure. There's some interesting gameplay stuff there though.

It can be done, but definitely not recommended. You'll get slower performance when playing on an external. Plus internal HDD have been getting cheap nowadays. I got a WD green 3TB drive for about $109 on newegg.

Haha, man I cannot believe this game is on the Top 3 on Steam. More Lightning incoming, who says it cannot strike twice.

It's now #2 on Top Sellers.

Fantastic, this sends a clear message to Square Enix "We want your shit on PC, do more".

Knowing Square Enix, they will probably read that as "We want more Lightning games, do it."

I really hope the FF13 series does well on PC. I'd love for it to create a chain effect on other Japanese developers realizing the interest people have for them to port their games to PC (More likely the ones that localize their games). Sure FF is the most mainstream RPG but it's still something.

Twenty minutes later...

#2.

SHE WON'T BE FORGOTTEN. FF13-4/5/6 coming to Steam exclusively.

This bodes well for future PC releases from SquareEnix if a port of a 4 year old game whose announcement hasn't even had time to circulate much of anywhere yet is #2 on the store based on *pre-orders.*

Final Fantasy XII: Zodiac Edition, Type-0 HD, and Final Fantasy XV, PLEASE.

More Japanese devs should try. I think they'd be pleasantly surprised.

For whoever is making the Steam OT for this game.
Let the subtitle be 'Toriyama's Waifu Returns'.

I'd kinda prefer for it to not be a joke.

There's going to be enough circlejerking and drive-by post trolling on this game without any help.

Honestly, at this price, anyone who didn't play it yet and enjoy RPGs... this is a must have.

Don't let the absurd hate some people give this game get to you. It has its flaws but its definitely an enjoyable ride, with a convoluted story, but a very good battle system, incredible graphics and music.

Its good more people will have the chance to play it now.

Impressive that its already #1 on Steam. Totally deserved too, because Square is making a lot of right moves in this TGS. I am impressed.

I didn't like it when I played it on my 360, but since it is the only numbered Final Fantasy I haven't bought(excluding MMOs) I will probably buy it/ Though might wait for it to go on a sale. Even if it is mostly to keep encouraging Square Enix and other Japanese publishers to port all their games to the PC.

The sudden influx of Japanese PC ports is quite surreal. Metal Gear Solid V, Way Of The Samurai 4, now Final Fantasy. Hope this means we get XV as well.

I am very happy it looks like Japanese publishers are noticing the PC now. I have been saying for years that them ignoring the PC was stupid and they were leaving a lot of money on the table.
